Looking for advice on opportunities in the southeast for my soon to be CRNA wife
Looking for some CRNA advice
My wife is starting her last year of CRNA school, so we’re starting to look at where she should work after graduation.
I work in sales and cover GA, AL, MS and FL, with about 50% travel. I don’t have to live in those states, but need to be within driving distance or a short flight.
We’re looking for a second-tier city in the Southeast or Dallas/DFW. Main priorities are good pay, high CRNA autonomy, decent work-life balance, and a good place to live.
We’ve been looking at places like Chattanooga, Knoxville, Birmingham, Greenville, Augusta and Dallas, but we’re open to other areas.
For those of you who are CRNAs, where would you recommend starting out, and what hospitals/groups should we look into or stay away from?
Would really appreciate hearing about folks work or have worked in the region.

Sound anesthesia staffs JPS in Ft Worth, they seem to be the most CRNA-friendly of the big groups from what I’ve seen. Heard decent things about Northstar too

If Sarasota/Bradenton FL is in your consideration as well, Sound staffs 3 hospitals there and offers 1099 options so the pay is very competitive for Florida

It’s low pay, that’s really it.
State filled with AAs. Just sucks overall

My job offer from down there was very competitive compared to what was locally offered at my time of signing. Quality of life > pay, imo.

Won’t say the area bec it feels like a golden goose trying to finally move back closer to family and getting shit offers for a while but my partner starts a 1099 with a group in Florida in October for 400k plus on 36 hours week
Tides may be changing or we just got lucky

If she wants autonomy then yoire gonna have to stay away from major metropolitan areas. Even short drives out of downtown she can find supervision or even crna only practices but almost all the big downtown hospitals are medical direction models. You should really pick an area that you like and then start looking at specific towns and hospitals within a distance you're comfortable living.

I am curious how Phoenix was able to develop this practice environment. It seems as though they lead the nation in terms of large metropolitan CRNA scope of practice. Through professional advocation?

yeah they are loaded with heavyweight crna advocates who made changes a long time ago. plus groups that actually put changes into practice and have a lot of good MDs who are not assholes

Charlotte, NC - Atrium Cabarrus is a fantastic facility and is great for new grads. All service lines except heads and sick peds. Different cases everyday with great people and pay. I started there 2 years ago and live in Charlotte.
