Wow, the mods finally allow highlights. Maybe we can get them to allow images/gifs in the comment section too

u/Moose4KU Ohio State Buckeyes • Kansas Jayhawks 9h ago

They threatened to ban me if I post more than 3 in a 24 hour period lol. I don't think they actually want highlights to work here

u/jakedasnake1 Indiana Hoosiers • Rose Bowl 9h ago

I was gaslit so hard by a mod many years ago when I asked why there werent highlight posts on this sub like r/nfl, I’d have to really dig for the comment but they said something like “no body wants it just use the megapost”

u/Moose4KU Ohio State Buckeyes • Kansas Jayhawks 9h ago

Yeah they did a months-long survey where >60% of respondents said they wanted highlights, but then did nothing to accommodate them. No post flairs, requiring non-reddit hosting, limiting posts based on who posts them rather than video quality, etc.

If I hadn't messaged them to unban streamable, it'd probably all be ESPN video links with ads lol.

Sometimes I'm convinced they don't actually like watching football, they just like being in charge

u/Different-Trainer-21 Georgia Tech • Florida 9h ago

They almost certainly don’t watch football. I’m sure the mods who don’t want highlights here are just random power mods who only care about running as many subs as they can and having as much power as they can.

Fun fact related to power mods: Ghislaine Maxwell was a power mod

u/Undella_Town Florida State Seminoles 8h ago

Sometimes I'm convinced they don't actually like watching football, they just like being in charge

literally a majority of reddit mods lmao. /r/soccer straight up bans you if you're american.

u/yung_forehead Michigan State • Madonna 7h ago

Not to sound like some defender of reddit mods but your point about r/soccer just isn't true at all lol

u/Undella_Town Florida State Seminoles 7h ago

the AC milan mod straight up was banning people for being american during the world cup lmao

u/Skidda24 Ohio State Buckeyes • Illibuck 9h ago

Why don't we just have Sunday highlights? It would give the sub some momentum on NFL Sundays and people would be willing to check it out..

u/Different-Trainer-21 Georgia Tech • Florida 9h ago

Because the mods don’t actually want to allow highlights. They want to be able to try it for a bit, say “they barely got posted it didn’t work” and then re-ban them.

u/luka274 Ole Miss Rebels 9h ago

They definitely don't. I posted 62y TD yesterday, immediately deleted, apparently not significant enough.

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina 9h ago

No, there’s been a long standing rule limiting users to 3 posts a day.

u/tmt22459 Clemson Tigers 9h ago

Which does indicate they don't want highlights and is incredibly stupid

u/pinoygator Florida Gators 9h ago edited 8h ago

I unsubscribed from r/NFL and r/NBA because all the highlight posts became really annoying. This sub with unlimited highlight posts would be insufferable.

u/killslayer Charlotte 49ers • American 9h ago

Yeah I agree. The nfl sub was genuinely much better when you could go to the mega thread and see all the highlights from each game grouped together instead of having plays from 10 different games cluttering the feed at once

u/fskier1 Michigan Wolverines • College Football Playoff 7h ago

Yeah, with how many cfb games there are it could get messy. The game tonight has like 4 or 5 highlights, which I can give a pass cuz it’s the only game, but if every game gets 4/5 highlights then the sub will be a mess

u/NurseOtaku 2h ago

I don't understand. What's the point of a CFB subreddit during the season? You have game threads and then a week of hits like:

"This player said upcoming opponent has been marked on their calendar since before the season."

And

"What team should I root for now that my team sucks?"

I don't care to see a tweet talking about "Wow! 235 rushing yards in the first half from the kid!" I want to actually see the highlights of it.

u/pinoygator Florida Gators 1h ago

Highlights, almost by definition, have to be curated. Without limits we'll end up seeing hundreds of posts every Saturday.

Personally, I'd prefer if we used r/CFBHighlights and let posts that clear X,000 upvotes get auto-posted by a bot here.

u/No_Butterscotch8726 SMU Mustangs 9h ago

No they don't want them taking over the whole subreddit.

u/Moose4KU Ohio State Buckeyes • Kansas Jayhawks 9h ago

As opposed to what? More snarky tweets and "which gas station food is your school" posts?

It's a college football subreddit. People who are subscribed like to watch college football

u/orangewall1234 Arizona State Sun Devils 7h ago

The Fingerbanger rule

u/Moose4KU Ohio State Buckeyes • Kansas Jayhawks 9h ago

Highlights are totally different from opinion posts or tweets because (besides week 1) they almost exclusively happen in a 12 hour period once per week on Saturdays

u/BenchRickyAguayo Florida State • Billable Hours 9h ago edited 9h ago

I think it's probably even more important because the sub needn't be inundated with run of the mill TD plays

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

Which is a bizzare rule to begin with, I'm active in a bunch of sports subs and none of them have that rule besides this one

If they're all relevant posts who cares how many a day a certain user posts, if they're not relevant they'll remove them anyway and take action

u/Seletara Texas Longhorns • TCU Horned Frogs 9h ago

blame pianofingerbanger. He basically spammed anti florida and Aggie links all day every day, and it did annoy the userbase after a time

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

And instead of simply banning them they limited posts?💀

u/Seletara Texas Longhorns • TCU Horned Frogs 9h ago

cause he technically had broken no rules yet. and honestly, I found the rule added a bit more diversity anyway.

u/GolfingGator Florida Gators 9h ago

No they actually made him a mod.

I’m not kidding.

u/Trynaliveforjesus Washington State • Olympic JC 9h ago

that guy was funny tho

u/Anatares2000 Stanford Cardinal 9h ago

As someone already said it, there's almost 60 CFB games a Saturday. Also, there are so many so many haters that used to post lowlights as well. Like unbearably lots of it

The NFL has like 16 games in a given Sunday

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

That's a stretch, the amount of people who post highlights even in the big sports subs are a very small number and most will usually only be watching the marquee games and their team

u/GuyOnTheLake Wyoming Cowboys • Illinois Fighting Illini 9h ago

You're a ND fan, so you have no problem with people seeing ND highlighs

I'm a Wyoming fan and if I post Wyoming vs UNLV, people are gonna get mad at me for posting too much

u/Anatares2000 Stanford Cardinal 9h ago

So you're okay with highlights because you're betting that only that fans of popular teams will post them?

So what's the point of posting highlights then? Let's just call this sub /r/SECandB1G if that's the only highlights I'll see.

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

Never said that but the reality is you're never going to get highlights from 75% of the games played if not more considering this

Every sports sub has highlights

u/Anatares2000 Stanford Cardinal 9h ago

Every sports sub has higlights because every sport sub (American ones at least) has a maximum of 32 teams.

I dont know what you're not understanding. The Power 4 conferences alone has 68 teams. On a given Saturday, this subs will be nothing but highlights of those teams.

u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

That's what the upvote system is for. Can give people what they want to see put to the top

If people don't want to see the G5 teams highlights they won't upvote it. Its like this in every sports sub. Also CBB sub has highlights and has WAY more games than CFB

→ More replies (0)

u/Legend13CNS Clemson Tigers • Palmetto Bowl 7h ago

CFB is the only major sports sub that's usable on game days. I don't need to see every play that Alabama or Notre Dame had that went for more than 5 yds. The soccer sub is basically unusable on match days because of highlights if you're not a fan of the top 10 or so clubs in the world. That's the closest comparison to CFB since the other US pro sports have far fewer teams.

The average match day experience on that sub is 3000 highlights of every breath Barcelona, Munich, and Man City takes, a coach having a crash out, and someone from the Romanian second division hitting a bicycle kick. If you're a fan of the 12th place Premier League team you'd hardly know you had a match at all.

u/ManBunH8er Texas Longhorns 10h ago

Don’t spoil a good thing

u/GuyOnTheLake Wyoming Cowboys • Illinois Fighting Illini 9h ago edited 9h ago

Look. I love the highlights but there's like 50 college football games in a given Saturday. 60 a week if you include games like MACtion

The NFL has 14 on a given Sunday (I'm not including Thursday or Monday). So even then, 16 games are played.

There's gotta be a better way than having a megathread that no one uses while not having this sub be just /r/cfbhighlights

u/Anatares2000 Stanford Cardinal 9h ago

Man, I would love to see some MACtion highlights

u/NebraskaAvenue USF Bulls • Texas Longhorns 9h ago

Getting ready for a MAC invite?

u/No-Owl-6246 Arizona Wildcats 9h ago

And all the top posts are just going to be mediocre scoring plays from the big name programs.

u/smoothtrip Michigan Wolverines 9h ago edited 8h ago

We do not need images and gifs in the comments. There is no need to be an unreadable forum from the 2000s

u/NebraskaAvenue USF Bulls • Texas Longhorns 9h ago

There’s plenty of subs that allow it and it’s perfectly readable

u/smoothtrip Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

No they are not. It is an infinite chain of stupid images making it unreadable. Do we really need to go back 30 years where everyone has a stupid image as their signature?

u/killslayer Charlotte 49ers • American 9h ago

It also turns the comment section from a place to discuss the post into just a series of gifs that add nothing

u/The_Fluffy_Robot TCU Horned Frogs • Iron Skillet 8h ago

but my gif is funny I swear bro just let me make this billable hours joke using My Cousin Vinny nobody's ever done that

u/Baseball_fan812 Louisville Cardinals 10h ago

This kind of play concerns me in a couple weeks. Good, calm adjustment under pressure by Jennings to give someone an easy catch.

u/PracticeSquadBaller SMU Mustangs • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 9h ago

The most impressive part of Kevin’s game is that he knows exactly where the line of scrimmage is at all times. You see it here, and I believe he showed it in our game a few years ago too. It’s pretty uncanny.

But I think we certainly have more to be scared about in a couple of weeks than you guys do
