Discussion Black Lug boot recommendations?

Post image

Im looking for a good black winter boot, here are the specs I would want:

8+ inch height
Lug sole
• Wide widths
Lace up
• Below $400
No steel toe or cap toe

Although they won’t be used for hard work or anything like that, I want something that will last me a long time! (Also I don’t want Jim Green because the stock boots are not quite what I’m looking for and I don’t like the wait or lack of communication with their custom boots; I already have some customs I’m waiting on lol)

I want these but Im worried about the high arch fit for my wide low-arch feet, do you own a pair?

I have the Solovairs and the Red wings and the Redwing logger big brothers the shit out of the Solovair Derby, completely different tiers of quality.

It's also the Red Wing that I had the least trouble breaking in. It's the same last as the Blacksmith and the Iron Rangers but the inclusion of a midsole, the height and the lugged outsole make a massive difference.

I have tons of US made heritage boots, some a good deal more expensive than the Red Wing logger, but I've barely worn anything else since I got them. Really good boot for the money.

The Red Wing loggers are some of my dream boots but they unfortunately don’t come in wide widths, I can agree I’ve had both brands in the past and Red Wing is on a different level

You may be OK with the loggers. I had to size down a half size from my IR and Blacksmith to get the loggers to fit properly. They feel wider than both.

Not just me saying that either, seems really common to go down another half size in these, I have no idea why they run wide. I needed an EE in the Blacksmiths.

I'd look up the loggers on here for advice, lots of comments about how large they run despite it being the same last.

But I'm totally with you on it being unfortunate about the width availability.

If you've got wide feet solovair might cause problema for you. They run relatively narrow. I find my solovair derbys fit narrower then my Asian made Dr martens 1460. Ive got quite wide feet but just deal with the narrowness, gets much more comfortable once they're broken in.
