I've always been wondering, isn't it better to make some notches on the blade handle so the glued part holds better? Some time ago my parents tossed their old knife because the handle fell off, and it was similarly just slightly scored.

Yeah it’s called roughing to get the epoxy/glue to bond better and also dries with grooves to keep it from slipping out.
