I’m finally rested up from the Urban X Weekend (Pax tales about that as soon as I get some better pics), but I wanted to drop a quick story about one of the many DVDs I was a part of during my time working at Evasive Angles.

Looking through my collection, I stumbled across this particular DVD, and the memories just had me shaking my head.

Setting the Stage (Atlanta, 2013)

Back in 2013, when Evasive Angles was based in Atlanta, I worked as the webmaster alongside taking on various other duties. After our trip to AVN and InterNext, TT wanted to create a tube site to combat Pornhub and the other platforms that were stealing his content.

I sourced the code, secured the hosting, and built the site from scratch. Next, we needed a team to handle edits and promotion. TT hired a few local guys, and I trained them on how to encode the physical DVDs to digital, edit them down into promo clips, and upload them. I set up the workstations, taught them how to post on social media, and showed them how to drive sales to the online store I’d built. I was actually really proud of the crew.

The Keyword Meeting & "Twerk"

During one of our weekly keyword and SEO meetings with TT, I brought up the word "twerk."

Despite running a company with endless titles centered around big butts, TT had surprisingly never heard the term. He immediately looked it up, saw the insane search volume, and made a move. By the following week, he brought Dame into the office to spearhead a new twerk-themed DVD.

Dame (aka Dame Streets) was an industry veteran of over a decade. He was the guy who took me to my first porn shoot, got me the job at Evasive, and had done heavy lifting on the Liquid City line and other Black-centric lines at Hustler. The reason most people haven’t heard of him? He rarely got official credit for his work.

Twerk Booty Poppers was supposed to be his first official directing credit. (Side note: I explicitly told TT and the sales team that the title was way too silly and offered better alternatives, but they stuck with it.)

The Betrayal & The Fumble

Dame was hyped. He walked me through his vision, his editing style, the vibe he wanted, and the local artists he had lined up for the soundtrack. He shot the first scene featuring GoGo Fuckme (Zombi).

Once GoGo’s scene was wrapped, Dame sent the raw footage over to TT for review before moving on to shoot the remaining models.

If you’ve ever actually watched the DVD, you’ll notice GoGo’s intro looks completely different from the rest of the movie. Here is where the ball was dropped:

Instead of letting Dame execute his vision, TT took GoGo’s footage, sent it to his editor back in California, and slapped three random recycled scenes onto it. This was the infamous era where TT literally reused one single scene across five different DVD releases.

Because of that, the DVD felt totally outdated with generic 90s-style music and lacked the polished hype of series like Apple Bottoms. When the DVD was finalized, TT threw Dame’s name on it as director since he shot the intro. Dame was furious. This could have been his breakthrough directorial effort—and you can tell just by watching the quality and effort in GoGo’s intro sequence.

Wrapping Up

Working at Evasive Angles back then felt like a dead end. It had massive potential, but TT failed to realize that Atlanta was a literal goldmine at the time. He was completely stuck in a 90s West Coast mindset.

Eventually, Evasive moved back to LA. Dame is still around, though I haven't spoken to him in years. Twerk Booty Poppers could have been a staple in Hip-Hop adult media, but it ended up as a massive missed opportunity.
