Advice 35F trying to be more social

Hello! It's hard to make new friends or join new social groups in your 30s, but I'm trying lol. Any social clubs, board game clubs, book clubs, etc that I should look into??

Thank You Books in Crestwood has at least one book club. If you are into gothic/romance horror you should look at PrettySpookyBookClub on FB or Insta.

They have a ton! Several different genre based book clubs and a poetry book club.

I’m in my 40s and am having the same problem. It’s rough out there

It's not rough, it's late!

I’m a queer guy in my mid-30s who is part of a couple of board game groups. Feel free to message me if you’d like.

I'm 36 and last year when I was your age I started being more social and tried a few things. I've met people through more active activities like martial arts and climbing, which are good ways to meet people since you usually have to partner up with someone and women tend to work together since these tend to be male-dominated sports. Thank You Books and Little Professor both have book clubs you can join based on your interests. Also, libraries have tons of events and groups you can check out. If you like doing art, MAKEbhm and Forstall Art Center have group classes you can try, and there are some craft and knitting groups (at Knit B'ham I think) I've heard of but never tried since it's not really my thing.

Unfortunately this is me right now because I am so blessed and grateful to be financially stable enough to do things but have had people not want to attend concerts, events etc. with me just because of the price. I just spent $200 on concert tickets for me and my friend, which for Birmingham I would say is mid-range? I said, “just pay me what you can,” and she Venmoed $10.

I either got to find new friends in my tax bracket or just do things alone 😐 but then those same people will spend a fortune on a family event or date night and that hurts my feelings lol because at that point ur just saying I’m not that important to you… didn’t mean to ramble but I get it.

Hey! Idk of any clubs to join but I’m a 31F and can definitely relate to how hard it can be to make friends as an adult. I would love to connect

38F I feel your pain!! I tried COTH groups. They are super nice and have deep conversations for 13 weeks, but a lot of times you will never see those people again 😆

This is my current schedule:
Monday 6 Bricked up Birmingham ($16)
Tuesday 6-8 Chess ♟️ club (free)
Wednesday 7:30-8:30 Ms. Tiffany’s open street jazz class ($16)
Thursday 360 fit class (weightlifting) at Club4
Friday solo date!
Saturday 9 Sauce n Suds salsa lesson ($15)
OR
Saturday 9-12 adult skate at Skates 280

If you think its hard in your 30's wait till you hit your 50's.

u/MaryDoogan91 12h ago

…I don’t want to wait until my 50s lol, that’s why I’m doing it in my 30s.
