A few off the top of my head. Music: Tears for Fears; the Bell pub as part of the music scene; Peter Gabriel, particularly the song Solsbury Hill (a local landmark you could include too)

Culture: Bath has a literature festival, and one for children too, a film festival, local theatres (the Rondo is a lovely local one that you could include). Bath natural theatre company. People who've been around for a while will remember the Walcott Festival, which has sadly stopped many years ago (Bath Fringe claims to be a sort of descendent of this).

Places (other than the obvious): Jacobs ladder up to alexandra park; at Stephens church that towers over the city lit up at night; the canals; Herschel astronomy museum; the little maze thing down by the canal/rugby ground; could include some of the little details on the upper levels of the houses on the Circus; Empire Hotel is pretty iconic; the botanical gardens

Can't really think of any Bath slang other than the usual West country/Somerset stuff

A couple of famous people - Mary Berry, Ken Loach (he's a big supporter of Bath City FC too, he's also helped them with fundraising stuff before )

Oh, and Plasticine was invented and manufactured here up to 1983

Just been reading about him and his fight against facism and exile to Bath many thanks

He was also refused entry to the League of Nations, the precursor of the United Nations because he refused to disclose how many slaves he owned. As an Emperor, he extended his borders by crossing into other countries and murdered many innocent people.

Might as well include the Baedecker Guide which was used to select Bath for bombing by the Luftwaffe.

Just a few things… Tears for Fears, The Bell on Walcott st, Moles (sob), some rugby reference (Gareth Chilcott? Bristol born but Bath prop for his whole career), Amy Williams (gold medal winner in skeleton bob), Schwartz Bro, Bath ales (Gem)…

Sadly it does feel like a lot of the more interesting places have been curtailed over the years - I obviously miss Moles, but also the Porter, Pig n Fiddle before it was gentrified, the Hub, the periodic big dance music nights at the Bath Pavilion.

Anthony Head ( nice little in memory of him as he was a Bath resident )

This is really really cool! (And you'll have to include some artistic representation of pulteney bridge)

Nothing constructive to add but I love the little square of Fry’s Cream!

u/Cahalid 3d ago

It wouldn’t be Bath without Chapter 22!

On a serious note, Martin Salter.

For Sports, Bath Rugby and Bath City FC.

There's a Ken Loach mural just off Twerton High Street that is one of the few examples I can think of for street art in Bath.

I would like to add the Common Rooms and Mandalyns as suggestions

The Raven - especially the logo.

Come on you Barf...

Definitely The Bell and round the corner to The Star.

Hills. Lots of hills.

Radiohead OK Computer recorded in St Catherine (a bit north of Bath).

Van Morrison lived here in the 90s and 00s.

Huey from Fun Lovin Criminals. Ken Loach. Anthony Head. Mary Berry. Jane Austen.

Bridgerton, Frankenstein and tourists.

Toppings books, and Persephone books, and Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights

u/Far-Elephant-2612 11h ago

Nice one like a lot of these

u/primalanomaly 3d ago

Bath Gin, Jane Austen, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the Christmas market, Chai Walla, Toppings books, The Dark Horse bar, Opium bar, Bridgerton locations, and probably loads more that I'll think of later...

u/Far-Elephant-2612 3d ago

Many thanks, very helpful

I say this as someone who’s lived here all my life and likes it…there is very little of artistic interest in Bath. You might be able to fill a postcard.

u/Alix_T_1865 4d ago

yeah i live nearby just over the wiltshire border and i can’t really think of much other than the usual things like the rugby club, Abbey, roman baths, universities etc
