Why the fuck would anyone wear a hat to play basketball? Baseball is played outside and you need to look up to see the balls, so people wear hats and sunglasses.

There is no benefit of a hat whilst playing basketball and in any kinda of organised league they wouldn't even be allowed because there's too much chance of them falling off and being a safety hazard. Also if you're balling you're generally gonna be sweating a lot so a hat would be annoying and not let you wipe your sweat.

I usually wear both playing outside for I guess the same reasons. Though I've also broken a lot of sunglasses.

How atrocious is your shooting form that a brimmed baseball cap doesn’t disrupt you while you shoot the ball..?

u/ChiefSoldierFrog 13h ago

I tried it and yeah if you have your hat forward your form or ball will hit the brim. If you have it backwards whenever you tilt your head for anything like a rebound, defence or whatever. The brim will brush against you.

Wear it frontwards and the bill gets in the way when you shoot. Wear it backwards and the bill hits your neck when you look up at the rim to rebound.

Everyone I've ever played with that wore a hat was a kook.

One guy was the exception, and he purposefully dressed like an idiot, because he thought it was funny to destroy people while looking like a Gump.

Was his name Billy? I think I saw him play once.

I used to exclusively play pick up in cargo shorts and band tees. Drove a lot of guys nuts to have a dunk blocked by a dude wearing a led zeeplin tee and vans. I thought it was hilarious.

Imma slasher/board man and the amount of times I fall or get hit in the head is endless. My hat would constantly be on the ground haha

I thought you were talking about skateboarding at first. Lol

Usually the guy wearing a backwards baseball cap says Bro a lot.

u/Lord_Reddit12 13h ago

and has wonky rim running body movements…

u/bard_2 13h ago

why ? i dont like my hats to get all sweaty

u/islandDiamond 13h ago

It started as an indoor game, so not a cultural thing.

And you can't see as much around you with, say, a baseball hat on. A skull cap might work, but...then, why?

u/zzzccardinal 13h ago

It falls off every two seconds

Baseball players have caps to keep the sun out of their eyes, especially because they have high flying balls. Their uniforms have caps as part of the standard gear.

Basketball does not generally have this problem and is often played indoors. You probably can’t even wear it as part of organized basketball, as they can be a safety hazard. Plus, the brim probably stops you looking at the basket

If you need something to keep your hair out of your eyes, wear a headband

This is quite possibly the most stupid question I’ve seen on here.

u/mortmortimer 13h ago

If I get to the court and dudes are wearing hats I'm not playing

u/Stephen2014 12h ago

I'm annoyed just thinking about it

u/icebucket22 13h ago

Oddly enough, I wear a basketball hat when I play baseball

u/Crazy_Exchange 13h ago

Cool at least we all know who the weirdo is with the baseball hat on at the basketball court

u/Clancy3434 13h ago

That's bait

u/heresyforfunnprofit 13h ago

How the hell do you have proper jump shot form with a baseball cap?

u/Last-Effort816 13h ago

If you have a somewhat decent shooting form, you'll hit the brim of the hat with the ball. The hat also obscures your vision. If you want to wear a hat, go for it. But it's kinda dumb.

u/tein_Structure4030 13h ago

The brim of the hat is in the way of my shot

u/Friscohoya 13h ago

Yes. You are alone. I place cap wearers just behind jean wearers and work boot wearers in my pantheon of the most annoying hoopers.

u/donuttrackme 13h ago

Why would you play with something that can get knocked off easily? Are you trolling? Or just extremely bad at basketball?

u/TumbleweedIll4249 13h ago

I don’t like getting my Knicks hat that sweaty

u/No_Command_8477 13h ago

some of my best games were in cold weather wearing a thin beanie. i love this feeling

sweating in a baseball hat is no fun to me

u/Infinite-Surprise-53 13h ago

• indoor game • a lot of limbs directly in front of your face that will knock the hat off

u/dirtf0rthedead 13h ago

gonna have a moist hat after

u/NemusSoul 13h ago

You gonna just guess where the ball might be every time it’s not below six feet off the ground, Mr. Hat?

u/dead-serious 13h ago

Billy Hoyle ruined it for y’all

u/SpringSalt9288 13h ago

I have worn a hat a few times when i didnt have a headband or something better bc i have long hair. I also was playing very casually so idk.

u/greatflicks 13h ago

Because it looks stupid especially indoors

u/salamanderman10 13h ago

What’s the point of it?

u/CouldntBeMeTho 13h ago

If you're not dressed like Cam Newton when playing are you really a hooper?

u/HardstartkitKevin 12h ago

Billy Hoyle?

u/NotActuallyMeta 12h ago
