Free Download Free stuff + codes for a controversial track

Upvotes

Hello all. Following on from bandcamp friday, I wanted to give an overview of what I've currently got up for free. I'm still playing with my sound, but broadly I'd describe the genre as bedroom folk with ambient, noise, and experimental elements (side note: if anyone has feedback on my genre, that'd be appreciated).

Free to download:

Live and studio versions of my debut single. This was an exploration of the paradox of finding comfort in something self destructive, ultimately prolonging broader discomfort:

https://joeljulian.bandcamp.com/album/comfort

https://joeljulian.bandcamp.com/track/comfort-felt-session

If you happen to like a little band called Starflyer 59, I have two cover EPs with bonus tracks (my take on shoegaze, folked up):

Codes:

I also thought it'd be interesting to give codes away for a track that did not go down so well. The EP this is from is a hyperstretched and revisited version of my track 'Circle'. The track below is one of a few pieces that began with an improvised reaction to that, recorded on a phone impromptu. Subsequently, those recordings were layered on top and the experiment spiralled out from there.

While two listeners told me this track was their favourite from the EP, a friend called it 'music vomit'. An anonymous feedbacker also said it was 'a disgrace' to the experimental genre with 'no real creative or artistic intention'(!). So... if that piques your curiosity, some codes for that one below.

Tool I built a little „Play All“ player for Bandcamp. Would anyone actually use this?

I love discovering music on Bandcamp, but one thing I've always missed is a simple way to open an artist and just listen through their entire discography without constantly jumping between releases.

So I started building something for myself.

It began as a tiny scrip with a „play all“ button and somehow turned into a complete little Bandcamp player. 😅

It can browse an artist's albums and individual tracks, start anywhere and automatically continue through releases. Over time I also added local favorites, playlists and recently played tracks.

Everything is stored locally in the browser, so you don't need a Bandcamp account just to organize things.

I also added some extra artist information like bios and upcoming tour dates, mostly because I liked the idea of having that stuff right there while discovering an artist.

I mainly built it because I wanted it myself and had a lot of fun working on the UI and figuring out how to make the whole thing feel like an actual music player.

On my iPhone it also keeps playing when Safari isn't in the foreground or when the screen is locked. So I can just start listening, put my phone away and it keeps going.

At this point it pretty much does what I wanted it to do. I still have some ideas for things I could add, but before I keep tinkering with it, I thought I'd show it here and see what you guys think.

Right now it runs as a userscript in Safari on my iPhone. That's simply how I built it for myself. I haven't released the script anywhere yet because I'd first have to clean it up a bit and make the installation reasonably understandable for normal humans. :)

So I'm curious:

Would anyone here actually use something like this?

And if you use Bandcamp a lot, what would you want from a player like this? Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I'm also completely open to hearing that this solves a problem nobody else has. 😄

There is a full write up at the above. We had to all do our own take on ambient and this is the result. It really goes outside the box.

Question/Help Vinyl-only release – advice please!

Upvotes

I want to release a limited-edition 10" dubplate next month. There are no plans to release a digital version, at least not for a while.

What's the best way to give potential buyers a preview? I have a digital file, and I have a video. I would have liked to place the video on the product page but it doesn't look as if I can.

I can see there's a ' include digital album or track with the purchase of this item' option. But can I upload a digital preview that's not for sale?

How would you approach this?

Helllo! Im a college 3D Animation student and im looking for songs similar to Girl Like Me by PinkPantheress and Oklou! Im looking for that moody trip hop edm vibe so msuic like massive attack or portis head also works! The smaller the artist the better as this will be for a short film! Thank you!

Hip Hop Seeking Feedback

Upvotes

I’m sharing my latest release, “To The Stars,” and I’d genuinely love to hear what you think.

The track is part of my album The Echoes of a Sunday Soul, which explores themes of ambition, love, nostalgia, and self-reflection through a blend of soulful instrumentation and hip-hop influences.

At this stage, I’m especially interested in honest feedback from people who listen to music critically, whether you’re a musician, producer, artist, or simply someone who enjoys discovering new music.

Thank you for listening and taking the time to share your thoughts. I really appreciate it. 🙏🏾

Free Download I've been experimenting with house beats lately and for this song I used all sorts of samples from some of my favorite video games! I would love some feedback because I'm not sure if other people would like this kind of sound

Question/Help Can't upload file

Upvotes

One of my music files is being a real pain in my ass today, because no matter what I do to upload it, it always gives me an "upload error" warning. But whenever, I click it, the error literally says just "error". I have tried re-encoding the file, exporting it as FLAC and AIFF and re-exporting it as a WAV and it just won't work.

Maybe this is a simple fix, but I'm not exactly a nerd when it comes to Bandcamp stuff like this.

Discussion Why doesn't Bandcamp have a volume control on its website?

Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Every time I want to play a song on the Bandcamp website, I have to turn down my macOS volume.

Does anyone know why Bandcamp doesn't have a volume slider on its website? It's incredibly annoying that it's missing.

Review New Pot of Gold Review: Stefan Elbl's remastered Sentinel 😄

Upvotes

Me again. I am so sorry, I dropped the ball a bit and this review is one day late.

This week I listened to Sentinel by u/SElblMusic

He just dropped it yesterday.

It's grungy and rock 'n rollish and he had me believing he trained in opera lol. I also had a wonderful chat with him, and I'm excited for you to hear his stuff and show him some love. He's so nice ❣️

Listen here:

As always, I'll link the review in the comments and you can submit your stuff through the link on my profile.

Give it a read. Your support and feedback is always welcome and appreciated :)

Have a nice day and week!

Question/Help Unable to 'follow' an artist after merging artist and fan profile

Upvotes

I recently created a fan profile, and during the process I was asked whether I wanted to merge it with my artist profile. I confirmed that I wanted to do so.

Now I can buy releases and add them to my collection, but unfortunately I can't follow certain artists by clicking the "Follow" button. Instead, I get the following message:

"To follow this artist, please sign up for a free Bandcamp account (or log in if you already have one)."

Whatever I do afterwards — whether I click "log in" even though I'm already logged in, or log out and then log back in — the situation remains the same.

I tried searching the Bandcamp Help Center, but I couldn't find a solution to this problem. I also couldn't find any direct way to contact support by email or submit a support request.

Could anyone help me resolve this issue or tell how to contact bc support?

Discussion How popular is Bandcamp in real life where you live?

Upvotes

You know I love this platform. It feels nostalgic like back to the 2010s, and I'm not subscribed to any music streaming platforms out there.

But, where I live, it's like nobody else has ever heard of Bandcamp irl (I live in Indonesia), like do people really use this platform?

I myself don't use Bandcamp that often, but not that Seldom either (sometimes I want to hear some unknown artists in my city, that's when I open Bandcamp).

It gives me the feeling that this platform is dying out or something like that, cause I'll be sad if that happens.

Milestone $100 all time sales :D

Upvotes

Hello r/Bandcamp. This will probably be my last milestone post for a little while since the next big numbers are a ways off (but who knows right, I never expected to get this far in the first place).

But wow, I'm overjoyed. I was at $47 just a month ago. Bandcamp Friday was a decent success, bringing in $28 in 24 hours (all for cat treats, she better be happy with the small mountain of churus coming her way). The second photo is a picture of her I took a few years ago after she knocked down a stack of cash. It felt relevant to include here :3

Thank you to r/Bandcamp for being the wholesome place that it is, for being a big source of inspiration and knowledge, and for introducing me to the lovely _nsigned project.

I was a little surprised to see a good chunk of my sales yesterday came from my first album, Submerged.

If you're reading this right now thinking about whether you should get started, just go for it. Turns out making music and human connection feels good. It's been a very fulfilling journey so far and one I will stay on for the foreseeable future.

Here's the link to my page if you're curious.

Question/Help Bandcamp gift cards on Eneba work?

Upvotes

Today I was going to purchase some music on Bandcamp for the first time in a few months. I already had some issues in the past with my cards. (Not only did they not work, but my bank recognized the purchase attempt as "suspicious", and I had to go get a new card because they blocked it). However, one of them was working well, and that was the one I was using to buy music there.

BUT, today I found out that cards doesn't work anymore, nor any of the other ones I have.

I'm really upset about it, since Bandcamp is my main place to get music in (especiallybecause signal is pretty bad where I work, so, if I want to listen to anything, it must be already downloaded on my phone).

But whatever, getting to the point. Looking for options, I found out that Eneba sells some gift cards. Not sure of trustworthythe site is, or if they work where I am (I'm from Chile, and they are labeled as only for the US region, but I'm not sure if that really matters, since it's not like the region where you are matters as much as with, for example, a Steam Key).

Also, if they were to work, would the musicians still get their money? I know that, with videogames, none of the money of a purchase in Eneba goes to the devs, so I'm also a bit worried about that.

So, any idea if it would be a good idea to buy one? (If you can think of another alternative for me, that's very welcome too!)

Thanks in advance

Discussion Singles, EP or album on Bandcamp. Release strategy help

Upvotes

Hey! Trying to figure out Bandcamp and I'm realizing singles aren't the way to go, even if I've released 8~ of them over the years on Spotify (not all are going on future album though).

I'm getting more serious with music now and I've found the sound for my future album. I currently have a song blowing up BIG and many are asking me to be on Bandcamp.

My release strategy is this:
Build towards album of 8~ songs, but have 5-6 of them come out as singles first. Along with potentially re-record/re-mix of some.
(Doesn't make sense for a small artist to drop 1-2 singles then suddenly a full album)

To do now:
Either
- Release all these 8 songs as singles on Bandcamp (like they are on Spotify)

- Put my last 3 singles into an EP on Bandcamp (they go well together).
Then eventually those 3 will also be on a longer album when I have more songs.

- Wait until I have a full album and only release on Bandcamp then
(and lose out on potential fans that want to support me/make purchase right now)

Darkwave Pieces of the Past, by Snøv

Hi! This is an always transforming and morphing experimental electronic mood music-ish solo studio project thing. I dont really have the words to describe the music other than that I treat it like its art with no real intention before I start to compose, meaning to capture a mood or atmosphere in time when you felt like whatever you are feeling.

I released this EP about a week ago. I have been told its pretty dark but not the kind of darkness that pulls you down into some kind of depression.

Would love to hear what you think.
Cheers!
