Mod Post Reopening r/BTech – A New Chapter for Serious & Focused Discussions
Hey BTechtards,
I hope you’re all doing well! I’m reaching out to let you know that we’re reopening r/BTech. Over the past few months, BTechtards has been bustling with a lot of fun and humor, but we’ve noticed that the space for serious & focused academic discussions and technical queries has been a bit sparse.
While the shitposts and memes are always entertaining, we’ve realized there’s a significant need for a dedicated space where more focused and academic conversations can thrive.
r/BTech was born out of a need for a focused and supportive environment tailored to the unique challenges faced by engineering and BTech students. Initially part of BTechtards, the need for a dedicated space became clear as we saw a growing number of serious academic queries and discussions getting lost amid the memes and light-hearted content.
What Will Happen to BTechtards?
It’ll remain as is for the fun and casual side of engineering/BTech. Feel free to keep posting your discussions, shitposts, memes and resources here.
Join r/BTech now: https://reddit.com/r/BTech

CSE / IT Everyone keeps telling CSE freshers to buy RTX for “future AI/ML”. Who is actually training models locally in college?
joining cse this year and laptop research has somehow confused me more than college counselling 😭
every second person is like “RTX le bhai future AI/ML ke liye”
but seniors, genuinely asking. how many of you actually needed a dedicated GPU regularly in college?
not gaming. actual CSE/AIML work.
because I'm looking at Flipkart laptops rn and around my budget it basically becomes 2 choices:
good Core Ultra 5 thin/light, 16gb ram, better battery, easier to carry everyday
OR
RTX laptop, much better if I actually need CUDA/local ML, but heavier + battery obviously takes a hit
Flipkart's Back to Campus section is actually useful for comparing both types together, but now I'm stuck on what I will realistically use for 4 years, not which one has the bigger spec sheet lol
for normal coding + DSA + webdev + Android Studio and then AI/ML later, is RTX genuinely worth compromising battery for?
or are most students anyway using Colab/cloud/college compute when things get serious?
asking seniors especially. what did you ACTUALLY run locally in 2nd/3rd/4th year?

Rant/Vent Passed 3 rounds for a ₹1.5L/month internship, only for my college to say no
I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD
last month I interviewed for an AI First Engineering Intern role at a Malaysian company
6 months onsite in Kuala Lumpur, ₹1.5lakhs/month + relocation bonus.
I got shortlisted, gave 3 rounds and passed all of them
Then they emailed me before sending the offer, just to confirm that I was okay relocating to KL
I was fucking happy. I thought my college would give me an NOC since it was a proper internship.
Nope
College doesnt allow 3rd year students to do onsite internships. They refused to give me an NOC/approval and even told me I'd get backlogs if I went anyway.
Spent a week going from faculty to faculty trying to get permission. Nothing worked.
Eventually had to tell the company that my college doesn't allow it, and I had to let the opportunity go.
₹1.5L/month, international experience, Kuala Lumpur... gone because of a fuckass college policy
feeling pretty down about it ngl
Just needed to get this off my chest
Edit: MIT ADT UNIVERSITY

Placements / Jobs 3rd yr got intern without any sde knowledge
Story time
So i was preparing for higher studies since the start (more like coping) and to be honest the only thing I did in first and 2nd year was codeforces, thats abt it. No front end back end, barely any knowledge of ML/DL, just did coursework and cf sometimes.
Come intern season I sit for OA for timepass but lowk got shortlisted for first round interview
i had no projects so i just wrote up some technical skills and for projects i wrote some stuff that i had previously submitted for my lab assignments in college
the interview was in person and lasted 2 hrs
mainly he first asked 3 leetcode mediums that i had to explain and cods nothing too difficult
Then second part he started asking me c++ knowledge like smart pointers virtual distructors, then oops and some other concepts like struct padding template, pass by value and by reference
i answered like half of them and gave some half assed explanation fke the rest and cleared first round
second round was with a more senior guy who asked me god knows what i couldnt explain anything so i was expecting to not go any futher so i slept off and by thr time i woke up i got the news that i was selected

Rant/Vent Got fired from my first internship
Uhh I am really embarrassed and full of emotions right now.2 months back I got this offer and the stipend was decent. It was going well until my college resumed. I got so overwhelmed that I was just not able to manage any of it. Neither academics nor internship work. I was barely sleeping 3 hours a day just to keep up skilling myself and not fall behind. Got a text from my manager today and it said they were not satisfied with my performance and I am on a notice period for now. Idk how to cope up with this. I was too excited and happy that I have an internship in this cooked market. Now I just believe nazar is real. Idk man I am just blank right now.

Social / College Life IIT ROPAR IS DOOMED.....
since you all might have heard that firstly there was this stupid ass rule of no student can go to others room in hostel and then fire in IIT ROPAR, we have a brand new thing

apparently in our prestigous college theres neptoism as how the director of the college (Rajeev Ahuja) appointed a faculty member when he didnt even had the required experience, his ews certificate was fake and more importantly he did his phd under rajeev ahuja too
If this is not nepotism then we dont know what is, there are a lot of black hands in this college and nothing is going good here, everythings falling the NIRF ranking, companies blacklisting this college and a hell lot of corruption
yeh bikk gayi hai government meme ko insert kardo plis
for the full report with all the proofs attached you can go to this link iitrprkimaachudgyi.
there are many more things to this like this and much more
we are firstly living under a dictator rule with these stupid ass rules and this crezy corruption

Rant/Vent Laid off from Uber after getting PPO and 3 months as SWE I
Its easy to say "When life gives you lemons, squeeze it and make a lemonade" but what about the fact that these lemons were thrown at you when u just began your career as SWE I.
After a lot of denial, shock and self-doubt I have finally absorbed what happened to me.
I joined Uber as an intern, delivered projects, and was given PPO in April itself. After finishing my internship in June, I immediately joined as SWE I and had already wrapped up my 1st project in 2 months. My 2nd project was also going great. But one fine evening, while I was deploying my code on main branch, I receive a mail stating how my job has been impacted and I should leave for home.
That moment I didn’t believe it for a second. I thought it was one of those phishing mails. Upon discussion with managerial team, I realised that it is true. This is it. My time is up. My journey at Uber, that just began, is over. I didn't know what to do, where to go, whom to ask. Nobody really had any answers as to why it happened to me. I packed my stuff and just left... confused and unsure about future.
So yup, sometimes you don't know what to do when life gives you lemons because maybe you don't know how to make lemonade. I'll believe in God. I'll believe that everything is for the best. I'll continue to believe myself as well.
But one thing I learnt is there will always be a thought in the back of my mind that layoffs can happen any day, anywhere and to anyone. You would be asked to pack and leave and you won't know why it happened to you.
PS: Open any opportunity or opening available for SWE I role with ~1YOE in Go, Python, Java, C#, SQL, Backend & AI&ML.

Serious To the recent IIT Mandi poster story
I am 1st year Btech student here at IIT mandi and there has been a recent poster incident iit mandi.first of all it was not done by any administrative person....it was completely a student organised event(the Janmashtami event)and only the some of the funding was given by Director sir (idk the amount).second thing is as of now i havent seen a student carrying this ideology and ig most of students dont carry such ideas.
Its still hasn't been known who created the poster but a commitee has been formed for investigation(as you can see in the email by director sir).
I wanna say that the event has lot of things going in it it had dances, bhajans quizes and all and almost the entire clg was there so mistake can happens sometimes.but one persons mistake should not lead to clg's reputation going cause that will affect the funding sponsor and if thing goes a lot high then it will may affect placements......so i have a request to all of that if you see such post related to this controversy then please dont hate on iit just hate the dumbass who created that shit

Rant/Vent I thought I was going to IIT. Now I'm scared to go home.
22m Graduated this year and I don't have a job.
And honestly, I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to get one.
I've always been a bit of a faker. Not even intentionally sometimes. I just kept pretending I was going to figure things out later.
After 10th, I had this whole dream that I'd take science, prepare for JEE, get into IIT and everything would somehow work out.
I did science. I gave competitive exams a shot, but it didn't work out the way I imagined.
The whole JEE thing was basically a drama I created in my head. I kept telling people I'd give JEE and get into IIT.
I didn't even properly attend JEE in the end. I gave my state entrance exam instead.
And somehow I still ended up in a private university.
Around ₹25 lakhs spent by my parents on my degree.
I thought maybe college would be my reset.
It wasn't.
First and second year were actually weird.
Everyone kept asking me what I was doing, what I was going to become, what I was working on. And I had no fucking answer.
I was just floating around.
Then I discovered AI tools.
And this is where everything got fucked up.
I started making projects without actually learning how to make them.
I'd have an idea → use AI → get something working → put it on GitHub → move on.
And somehow...
it worked.
I wanted to stand out so badly, and for a while I actually did.
I won 7 hackathons and one of them was in older iit.
I made an application that got actual users.
In 2025, it even got backed by one of the major companies. By backed, I mean they gave us around $10k worth of database credits, so the application could run basically for free.
From the outside, it looked fucking insane.
I started thinking maybe all the shit I'd gone through didn't matter anymore.
Maybe I had actually figured it out.
My resume looked good.
People were impressed.
I got through resume rounds.
I even got a couple internships at some random companies.
For a little while, I genuinely thought I had pulled myself out of that hole.
And then reality started catching up.
Because underneath all of that...
I don't know how to fucking code.
Give me a blank VS Code window and ask me to build something without AI and I'm fucked.
I can't confidently explain a lot of the things I've put on my own resume.
The projects are real.
The users were real.
The hackathon wins were real.
The credits were real.
But the person I made myself look like on paper isn't real.
That's the part that scares me.
Now I'm 22, turning 23 in a few months, watching people around me get placed while I'm sitting here wondering what the fuck I'm going to tell my parents.
They spent ₹20 lakhs on me.
The IIT/JEE dream never happened.
I barely took college seriously.
I used AI to fake my way through learning.
And now I don't even have a job.
I still have 3 backlog exams to clear. My degree might not even come until next year.
And the funniest part is that I've somehow managed to get past some resume rounds.
But then the technical round comes and I know eventually someone's going to ask me something basic and I'm going to have no idea what to say.
I've been lucky enough to get opportunities I probably didn't deserve.
And instead of using them to actually learn, I kept finding ways around the hard part.
I've also made so many excuses along the way.
I got sick. I got backlogs. I got typhoid.
Those things were real, but I kept using them as reasons to push everything else further away.
"I'll start after this."
"I'll learn it next semester."
"I'll get serious after this project."
"I'll fix everything once college is over."
There was always something.
Right now I'm in Delhi.
I'll probably be going back home in the next two months.
And honestly, that's terrifying me.
Because when I go home, what am I supposed to say?
"Yeah, everyone else got jobs and I didn't."
"Yeah, you spent 20 lakhs and I still don't know what I'm doing."
"Yeah, those projects you were proud of? I used AI for most of them."
I even deleted my LinkedIn and GitHub.
I hate the fake version of me that exists online.
I hate looking at a profile that makes me look like someone who has everything figured out when I know what's actually underneath it.
I don't even know if I'm actually dumb.
Maybe I am.
Maybe I'm just incredibly lazy.
Maybe I'm someone who keeps falling in love with the idea of becoming successful but never wants to do the boring work required to actually become good.
I don't know.
And that's probably the first honest thing I've said about this.
I'm sitting here right now just staring at the wall thinking about how badly I fucked up.
I had the wins.
I had the projects.
I had people believing I was good.
I even had companies giving me opportunities.
And somehow I still ended up here.
No job.
Backlogs.
A degree that's probably delayed.
And basically zero confidence that I can actually do the work I'm claiming I can do.
Everyone seems to be moving forward.
And I'm just standing here wondering if I missed my chance.
I don't know.
Maybe this is fixable.
Maybe it's not.
I genuinely don't know anymore.
And the most ridiculous part?
I again used AI to make my imperfect post perfect.

Placements / Jobs Need company list for Winter Internship / Internship with ppo
Hey guys, I’m a 2027 CSE student and currently looking for Winter Internship + FTE opportunities off-campus. I’m mainly trying through referrals and cold emails/LinkedIn, but I’m finding it difficult to figure out which companies actually hire freshers through these routes.
If anyone has a list of companies that hire 2027 grads for winter internships, especially companies where there’s a possibility of PPO/FTE, please share the names. Startups, product-based companies, smaller companies etc. sab chalega, not just FAANG or the usual big names.
Also, if anyone has personally got an internship through a referral or cold mail, would really appreciate it if you could share the company name and how you approached them. Even a few names would help a lot. Thanks!

Math / Stats / MnC Help me with this transformation section. I really suck at it 😭
Can someone explain the intuition behind these equations? I can follow the algebra, but I don’t really understand why transforming to the eigenbasis makes repeated applications of T so much simpler.

Serious Can I get a >15 LPA SDE placement without a corporate internship?
I’m a final-year student at a Tier-1 college, from a non-circuital branch, with a CGPA slightly below 8.
I’m sitting for SDE placements this year. I didn’t do a typical corporate internship this summer, but I did complete GSoC with a positive evaluation.
How much of a disadvantage is the lack of a corporate internship likely to be? Will it significantly hurt my chances of getting placed?
For context, I have a decent DSA/competitive programming background and some projects as well.
Would appreciate insights from people who have gone through placements in a similar situation.
