I’m East Coast through and through, relocating to LA at the end of Fall and up until recently my whole picture of your weather was sunny 80% of the year, maybe a little June Gloom, never too extreme.

So it’s been a little jarring to see the news blowing up about a “Super El Niño” forecast to run through winter and into early 2027 & supposedly one of the strongest on record.

I’ve seen online that it’s already been raining more than usual out there, and people mentioning a humid summer, which from everything I’d read shouldn’t really be an LA thing at all.

For those of you who’ve actually lived through an El Niño winter before: are you nervous, or is this more of a “we’ve seen this before, no big deal” situation?

Are people actively prepping go bags, perishable foods, sandbags, drainage checks, that kind of thing or is it mostly just talk?

I keep seeing severe flooding and mudslides mentioned as the big risks. Is that realistic for most of the city, or is it really just a handful of hillside/canyon areas that need to worry?

I’m a twenty eight year old who grew up all throughout Los Angeles county. Born to a father who passed when I was three and a mother who struggled with addiction longer than I’ve been alive.

Throughout my childhood and teenage years I was lost in the shuffle of abuse, neglect, and tragedy. And at the early age of six, I witnessed my mom overdose in front of me and remembering she had taught me to call 911 if she was ever sick. She eventually recovered but I was placed into foster care and that was the start of trauma that I still deal with to this day.

Anyways, my life continued on like that for a long time. Going in and out of foster care because after losing us, my mom always sobered up just enough to get us back, only to lose us again. There was a lot of trauma experienced between all of this. But eventually I aged out at eighteen and it’s been a whirlwind of a mess since then.

I don’t have much to show for myself except the fact that I’m still here. At twenty-eight, I don’t feel as if I have what someone my age should have. I barely sobered up a few years ago, and since then I’ve been doing my best to work on my mental health. I’ve been going to therapy, I’ve maintained my sobriety, I’ve picked up healthy habits, but I’m just depressed. It’s kicking my ass. And I feel burnt out. I don’t really post like this as it’s extremely vulnerable but I don’t know what else to do.

I’ve ran out of savings to pay for my rent so I’m behind, I’m struggling to find a job, I’m alone, and I’m extremely exhausted. I’ll be without a place to stay next month, what do I do? Thank you for reading this if you took the time to do so.

A couple of my friends have had weird experiences at this venue in the last few weeks where they lost consciousness after having a few sips of their drink, paramedics were called etc — they don’t remember anyone touching their drinks or leaving it unattended so it’s unclear what happened (waiting on toxicology) but strange that it’s happened multiple times. I’m curious if anyone has had similar experiences at this venue, trying to get some more data. :/ ?

Is it the humidity? Is mold growing in my apartment? How’s everyone else feeling with the weather?

Hello I just applied LADWP Water Utility Operator position and would love some real insight from people who’ve worked in the role (or know someone who has). I'm 26 , I have A D2, and a Class A. and around 7 years of water utility work under my belt.

A few specific things I’m curious about:

Is it worth it in the long run?

• Work-life balance — hours, weekends, overtime expectations, on-call?

• Salary & benefits — is it competitive for Los Angeles? Any bonus/shift differential?

• Day-to-day work — what are common tasks, stress levels, teamwork, physical demands?

• Career growth — is there room to advance? Training? Certifications?

• General pros/cons — anything you’d warn someone to know before applying?

Does anyone have a dentist they recommend, ideally in or near Valley Village, for my mom?

Most important is someone who is kind and genuinely nonjudgmental- she has gotten a lot of shame from dentists in the past.

She is currently going through cancer treatment and has other dental issues related to age and prior cancer treatment. Tonight, a cracked tooth basically broke/fell out, so we’re trying to figure out where to take her. She’s going to check with her oncologist first to make sure she’s cleared for any dental work, but we don’t have a dentist here that we can call and obviosuly want to get this fixed asap.

I’d really like to find someone compassionate who won’t make her feel embarrassed or lectured about the condition of her teeth, especially while she’s dealing with so much already.

Near Valley Village is ideal, but we’re absolutely willing to travel for the right dentist. Would especially appreciate recommendations based on personal experience. Thank you!

My cat recently got diagnosed with lymphoma and needs to see an oncologist for chemotherapy. I am considering ACCESS Pasadena, VCA ASG Glendale, and MASH in Hollywood. Do people have good experience with them?

I always heard VCA is extremely expensive, but I’m not sure if it is still more expensive than other specialty vet when looking at oncology care.

While I see some recommendations for the VCA on the west side, it is too far for us to go often.

Long story short, last summer got threatened by a former neighbor. Basically I knew him from my old house and initially he was nice so he had my phone number. After two months, I moved. The dude likes to hang out near my new place (unrelated to me). Everything was normal until one day he was drunk and threatened me with violence.

Then I got bombarded with violent texts. I showed the texts to a cop and they registered a case (I forgot details). The cops gave me his DOB and asked to get a restraining order. I was so busy with my job that never had a chance. Its been more than an year since that incidence.

Recently I started seeing him near my home again and a bunch of times, I think he shined his bicycle headlights at me. I am pissed and looking for all options to get this dude out of my life. The cops did what they could - showed me mugshots, took statements. All evidence was submitted to them. Even if I get an RO, he hangs out on the block next to me and that place is out of the RO range.

Any suggestions welcome. The dude maybe a low level gang member. Any ideas how to deal with this ? I am new to LA so not many friends here. Thanks yall.

I have a mobility impaired relative visiting me in LA next week and her biggest request is we figure out a way to get her feet in the Pacific Ocean. She’s not picky about where exactly, and knows it’ll take some effort. I see there are beach wheelchairs with first-come first-served availability at a number of different locations. And some spots have mats to make access closer to the water a bit easier. For people who have used them, do you have any tips as to the best place to rent one and access the water? Thank you!

I am currently 16 years old and a resident of Washington State. I lived in L.A. in 2018 for about a year, and UCLA has been my dream school ever since. To tour the college, I cannot afford to take a car and cannot legally drive. Therefore, I will need to travel by the bus or metro from LAX to UCLA. I also will be travelling alone. I am also planning to stay in L.A. for a day, such that my flight entering and leaving L.A. are on the same day. Please tell me everything I need to know.
