Monthly Quick Questions
Use this thread to ask general questions that apply to you more than to the region.
For example, what music you like that is acceptable, what quirks or behaviours you have that are seen as offensive, if your music would be appreciated.

Circassian grandpa, trying to learn more about my family/background
I'm Egyptian and Circassian on my dad's side from my grandpa, but unfortunately everyone from that side of my family passed away when I was very young, so I never really got the chance to learn anything about Circassian culture, language, or much really.
I know we're of Kabardian origin. I've been wanting to reconnect with that part of my background and thought I'd start here :)
My family name is written جركس (Jarkas?) in the Ottoman Arabic/Circassian spelling that I have from my family. There's also a Toppouzada right before that
I'm familiar with the Arabic/Egyptian pronunciation we've used, but I don't actually know how it would have been pronounced in Circassian, or whether the spelling tells me anything about where my family might have originated.
If anyone knows anything about جركس, I'd love to hear it, pronunciation, meaning, dialect, regional association, anything.
And honestly, if anyone here just wants to tell me things about Circassian culture/history/language that you think someone who grew up disconnected from it should know, I'd love that too.
I feel like I missed out on a whole part of my family history and don't really know where to start. Thanks!

Many Armenian Youngs claims North Caucasian people are mixed Russian -Arab origin while Armenians themselves purest Caucasian people.
Hello, I have a question for Armenians. Lately, on platforms like TikTok, I’ve been seeing accounts claiming that Armenians are of Caucasian origin—even though they aren't. The most interesting example is this account:
u/ZealousidealPie7677 (a Reddit account that presents the same flawed arguments)
u/armenia6503 (a TikTok account)
While there are only minimal genetic differences between Eastern and Western Armenians, this account claims that Western Armenians aren't "real" Armenians and that only those with Caucasian origins—like Georgians or peoples from Dagestan—are the true Armenians. What is your take on this?

Politics Separatism problem
Its obvious that a lot of so called "republics" folk wanna part ways with Russia
Is it possible to achive with minimal bloodshed? How to prevent militaristic junta states? What comes to regions where its not possible to separate two ethnic groups into their own because how mixed up they are?
And how to prevent forming of nazists or radical islamic groups

History Hi, this is probably a strange ask but I was wondering if anyone in this subreddit has visited either of these sites that have 7 foot+ skeletons which date back to thousands of years ago, the first images are from the Ganja State Museum and the second from the Church of Kish, both are in Azerbaijan.

What nicknames have you heard for places in the Caucasus?
I ask as part of a linguistic study looking at this topic!
Every* country, region language, has informal names sometimes used - like in slang - to refer to places. Please let me know if you can think of something in your country!
It could be for a city, a neighbourhood, a mountain or even a small village.
Some examples from the region are KhasVegas, Vladik, Nalchicago or Mukhus...

Eastern Neighborhood
Hello! Could you give me some ideas for research questions related to security governance in the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood? What topics could I explore that would allow me to combine security studies, EU policies and the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood ( especially Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, and the South Caucasus states) ? I’m still looking for something more specialized on the security of the Eastern flank ( Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia and Azerbaijan) or maybe an interesting research question about the EU’s neighbourhood policy in the Southern and Eastern neighbourhoods/ comparison between states. Thanks!

Camping the Mestia-Ushguli Trek via Tsvirmi. Food & Transport?
Hi! We’re planning to hike from Mestia to Ushguli via Tsvirmi and camp along the way instead of staying in guesthouses.
Has anyone done this recently? Is wild camping generally fine along the route, and are there good places to pitch a tent near Tsvirmi, Adishi and Iprali/Lalkhori?
Also, can you usually have dinner or breakfast at the guesthouses even if you’re not staying there? We’d prefer not to carry all our food if possible.
Finally, is it easy to get a shared minivan or taxi from Ushguli back to Mestia with backpacks, and roughly how much does it cost?
Thanks!
