Did 3 nights 4 days with 3 friends. Set up camp on Gill Brook, had an awesome campsite. Bagged nippletop and dial but weather led to no views. However we were rewarded with a pristine Sunday at Indian head and rainbow falls. At night we hiked back to Indian head for sunset and stars. Hung out there for 4 hours and met this really cool group of guys around our age. Played cards on the cliff under the Milky Way and just vibed. Daks are the best!

This morning, the bog on the way to Long Lake was foggy and strangely beautiful.

This spot is about a half hour hike out my parents back door. First time finding it again since I was a teenager. Twenty years too long

Up the Hitchins Pond overlook, then across the dam on Lows Lake and along a stretch of lovely woods road to meet the scenic railway. No trains running today and the tracks were quite nice to walk.

BF and I have been coming here for the last 3 years to camp together - we find something new to do (hike, drive, etc) every time 🖤

Hi folks who live or frequent the ADK more than we can, we live near Ithaca and have had a rainy summer (more than last year) so I wonder if people think the colors will be later this year or if leaf disease is already causing some change up there or if an early frost is predicted? I have been doing a fall trip for the last 5 years and other summer trips when I can and every year is obviously different so hoping to get some insight! I am trying to decide between coming Oct. 3-7 or the 7-11. Will it make much of a difference? Should we come earlier?

Ultimately I know this is my own problem and my own fault but figured I would try. I do a lot of wildlife photography mainly as a passion and hobby. I used a canon r5 with a 200-800 rf lens, this past weekend in the canoe I was photographing loons and going through a culvert to another lake my canoe capsized with all my gear in it. Everything is a total loss. I want to try to sell photos to maybe help get some more gear but really not sure that’s even possible. If anyone is interested in my loon prints or any prints I have it would help me a ton. Thank you so much for reading. Lots of things I can say I wish I did to avoid this and now know for the future what I need to do

I usually carry a lot of camera gear on hikes in my backpack and have previously been using the Jade 38. However I feel like it’s not enough space for me and I’m looking to upgrade. Has anyone had both of these packs? Or just one? Do you love it or hate it? I feel like the 60 might be huge for me because I’m only 5 foot 120 lbs but at the same time I’m curious how much bigger the jade 53 is and the difference in model?

If you have an opinion, which of these routes would you recommend for Giant and Rocky. Looking into doing these peaks early next month (october)

We're looking to go from Tuesday Sep 8 to Sat Sep 12. First night at Wilderness Campground at Heart Lake then on to Mount Colden, Marcy Dam, few around the area.

I know Labor day weekend is a zoo but what about right after?

Planning on doing the Colden Trap Dike next weekend with a few friends and was wondering if you need helmets for it, I know it’s a bit steep with class 2-3 scrambling but wasn’t sure if had loose rock that helmets would be good for. Was also wondering if anyone has been up there recently, if so please let me know how trail conditions have been.

Very short notice and I’ll keep this as short as I can. I proposed to my now fiancee on our way up Giant a couple months ago (13/46 for us both). We’ve decided to elope and exchange vows on the summit of Whiteface (driving not hiking) on Monday 10/5. I’m looking for someone with a decent camera who could take some pictures and possibly record our vows. It will be just her, myself, and our daughter doing vows; no formal ceremony, no guests, we’re not booking space at Whiteface nothing like that. Probably all of 30 minutes on Whiteface not counting the drive up and down. We’re not looking to spend much (two weeks in Yosemite for our honeymoon will be pricey), and most photographers I’ve found only offer WAY more than we need at the minimum (I don’t need 5 hours of time and a fleet of photography drones).

At this point, I’m interested in anyone (regardless of “professional experience”) who could help out, and obviously I’m willing to compensate financially.

Hi all! I’m curious if folks here know what it would take to reopen Whiteface for mountain biking again. I know ORDA and DEC are super strict, especially in light of the UCI event, and seem to have no desire in even considering recreational mountain biking.

So, what concessions or what things need to be addressed in order to bring back mountain biking at Whiteface?

I assume it has a lot to do with the strict environmental laws there, and partially politics

To me, if it’s done right, it’s a no-brainer. A lot of money could come in from bikers coming in from hotels to restaurants/bars among other things, plus help the local economy which definitely needs the tourist revenue flowing year-round.

I thought I’d start here to see what needs to be done, and maybe start thinking about getting involved with existing organizations and help grow advocacy. Thank you!

Can anyway recommend a spot to maybe walk a scenic easy trail and watch wildlife or just a spot to sit and watch. Maybe near tupper lake? Thinking of heading out there early to wild life center first thing in the AM.

First time posting here so if forgive me if this isn't the place to be asking. I'll be stopping by this early October and I couldn't be more excited. It's my first time camping and I plan on staying for about 5 days. I have a couple of things I'd like to do within that timeframe but don't know which campsite to book or where to start. In no particular order, I'm hoping to...

- Hike Mt. Marcy.

- Stargaze (trying to see the milky way)

- Do some sort of sunrise hike and watch the sunset or sunrise by a lake.

- Kayak.

I'm also trying to see which campsites would make sense for me to book. Amenities can be barebone as I plan on bringing my own tent and what not. The only thing amenity that's kind of a must is some sort of shower nearby. If anyone has any other suggestions of things to do or specific campsites, by all means I am more than open to recommendations.
