Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

Upvotes

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

Im going to let the picture do all the talking. I was over here balling my eyes out after I got a 2 on AP CSP and here we have students getting in with solid 3's! Am I doing something wrong? Unless they donated a building? Am I as cooked as i thought I was?

Bio Ap Bio troubles

Upvotes

Hi so I got into a program for high school and I was basically forced into AP bio.. They gave me summer homework and unfortunately I did the worst thing someone could do, which is to procrastinate. My teacher also said we would be having a test in the first week of school, however she never said when.. I’m a freshmen so what are the chances they’re going to give it to me on the first day. Same situation with honors geometry too..

Question Free or paid resources

Upvotes

I’m taking AP lang, Precalc, csa, Spanish lang, apush, and micro ts yr, and I was wondering what free or paid resources would be best for me. I know YTers like Heimler, garden of English, Michael Porinchak, and Jacob Clifford. Like for online or prep books what are some good things I should get or use? My main focus is getting in practice mcqs and frqs that are actually realistic and a lot of. Thanks guys

Question Should I self-study Calc AB?

Upvotes

I'm currently a sophomore taking pre-calc. I really want to take stats and have to take BC, but my school has this policy where I can't take multiple math classes in a year. So my current math pathway is Precalc (10th), AB (11th), and BC (12th). I can't take BC and stats senior year. So I'm thinking that I should either self-study (probably with the help of a tutor) AB and take the AB exam, or self study AB over the summer when I don't have a large workload. If I did do that, my course load would be Precalc (10th), BC (11th), and Stats (12th).

Also some background, I want to go into business/finance (leaning a little more to finance). My current AP schedule is precalc, physics 1, apes, and sem. I know pre calc and apes is "light" but i don't know how true that is. Physics 1 so far isnt that bad, and I know sem is a lot of work, but my ELA skills are not that bad. I don't know though if this is a good idea. please help if anyone can

Question Is lumnisource good?

Upvotes

Hi, I have been using lumnisource for a few weeks now. I haven't seen any major change in my APWH quiz scores so I was wondering if it is worth it or if there is some other tool. If you have found lumnisource helpful could you please let me know, and what class you used it for?

I opened Collegeboard today, in order to self-study AP Stats, and noticed all of the AP videos gone. I did some digging and saw that they did a massive overhaul. But what about the videos? Any clarity? Dunno if I should take the class instead if im not able to self study it

Micro AP Macro and Micro

Upvotes

Hello! I plan on self studding AP Micro and Macro, and I have time to study for I was wondering what are tools I can use to get a 5 on both. I heard Khan Academy, Barrons Book, Princton Review, previous FRQ's, and Jacob Clifford's packets and videos. Please let me know what you guys recommend starting with, and what to buy.

Question I am currently in 9th(freshman) in India and can't decide what APs should I take

Upvotes

My school offers a few AP courses but I am unable to decide what to take. Even though I know what APs are I am still a bit afraid of choosing the wrong ap and just ruining my current grade and the ap I take. I am contemating b/w physics 1 and pre calc, I think of taking physics 1 because want to major in physics in college.

But really I don't know what AP is better for me and I also can't take both of em because each ap is frickin 15k inr(which is a considerable amount of money here in India)

If someone has any piece of advice it will help a lot

2-D Art and Design AP Studio Art SI too broad?

Upvotes

I just started AP Studio Art (2-D) a couple days ago and we're brainstorming for our SIs/guiding questions. I really want to investigate different types of extreme contrast in art to communicate more complex topics. for example using semi-realisim and photography together to represent fantasy vs reality, or contrast between greyscale and saturated colors to represent memory/past vs present. Is just using different types of contrast too broad of a theme to follow?

I've only ever taken AP Art History before(which I got a 5 in!!) as far as AP classes so I'm not super familiar with the grading process on things but my art teacher has never had a student get a 5 on their portfolio before and I want to do well in this class, but I'm worried my theme isn't what the college board is looking for. I also thought of just going with fantasy vs reality as a theme but that felt it would get too repetitive? Sorry for the rant, advice/constructive criticism is greatly appreciated :D

APUSH APUSH VOCAB QUIZ procasination

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I have a vocab quiz tomorrow for Periods 1-2 in my APUSH class. Since it’s Labor Day weekend, I completely forgot to study until today. I’ve been studying since around 9 AM and I’ve gone through 54 out of the 107 words, but I’ve already forgotten the majority of the terms and which definitions go with which. I’m lowkey stressing because I really don’t want to fail, but at the same time, I’ve been getting pretty good grades on my other quizzes and assignments. My teacher also drops a couple of grades, so that’s making me feel a little less motivated to keep studying. I just want y’all’s input, should I keep studying the 54 words I’ve already gone through and try to learn the rest for tomorrow’s quiz, or should I just enjoy the final day of break?
