So since last post, momma squirrel had returned and moved the baby squirrels in to the wall. They were there for the rest of the day, but by the next morning it looked like momma squirrel had moved all the babies out! Or so we thought.

Another night goes by and we left the area untouched, because we didn’t want to discourage the mom from getting all her babies out. This morning my partner hears squeeing coming from the bedroom, and find a baby squirrel on the floor. Maybe momma couldn’t get it back off the clothing shelf and in to the hole?

From what I can tell momma hasn’t been back for about a day. We cleared out all the old nest debris, and put the squirrel in a bin with some warm water bottles and fabric, then placed the bin by the hole in hopes that momma comes back and retrieves her baby.

I’ve sent another update to Toronto Wildlife Centre and waiting to hear back on next steps. Hoping to get this little guy to a rehab centre asap because I imagine he’s hungry and tired from being away from momma so long. Usually they respond in about an hour but it’s also Labour Day and last we talked they were working at max capacity because of a recent storm.

The roofers are also supposed to come by tomorrow so access for momma squirrel will likely be closed off.

Going to wait for a bit to hear back from TWC but it’s looking like I might need to figure out a feeding situation before all the stores close.

It’s safe to say it’s mostly squirrels now ❤️🐿️

i just got home and heard some screaming, and apparently there is a hurt juvenile squirrel in my yard. (i’m not sure if that is the correct descriptor; he’s small, but he has all of his hair). one of his hind legs has a laceration but i don’t think it’s broken, and he seems lethargic. i currently have him wrapped up in a towel with a warmed up sock filled with rice, and have contacted a local rehabber but have not been responded to. what should my next steps be?

This is Donette. She’s the one who comes and asks for food, then acts like she’s going to kill me when I give it to her. I got a great video of how loud she chatters.

This one puzzles me. He disappears for a few days... Rarely comes back in the evening hours. The grabbiest of hands, and he's so gentle. 🥰 He hung out with me for a few hours this fine September morning. This is his 7th or 8th whole walnut. He's a piggy. 🤣 He ate 2 almonds and a handful of walnut pieces from my hand aside from what is seen here. 🐷

She is now officially unstoppable and will stare at that cup until you give her another 😂

Almost every evening I sit with my squirrel buds and feed them/ watch over them. Now that it’s getting dark earlier they’re going to bed earlier, but not angy 😂 she stays much longer than everyone else so I have to stay and watch for the foxes

Late last night I woke up and was looking at this sub (or the other main squirrel sub). Someone had posted the most disgusting post I had ever seen. They mentioned a neighbor feeding squirrels and they were upset and so they were ending the squirrels and came here for suggestions on that.

I'm glad the mods took that down. I couldn't believe someone could do such a thing. I know we believe that we own our homes, but didn't the wildlife live here before that.

I now slightly understand the warning I received on this sub and elsewhere that feeding squirrels by hand could be bad for them as it may inadvertently make them trust the wrong people.

My squirrel took walnut and ate it like this. I was wondering why and it dawned on me! She is less vulnerable - to both predators and competing squirrels - by eating it like this and blending in. Impressive little miracles of evolution. PS- one of those botfly larvae have left her thankfully. Two more to go.
