I got this dog because my work allowed me to bring her with me. Then some life issues occurred and I was on the hunt for another trucking job that would allow me to bring a 100lb dog. she’s my whole life. Bridget has saved me countless times mentally, she keeps me going. After 3-4 years of finally finding another trucking job that I enjoy and can actually do and may have a bit more freedom. We are back in the truck together.

Here is the story in my friends words:

“My 80 year old mother was heading off to pick blueberries. She was walking down a path with lots of bushes to get to her blueberry patch near the ocean. She jumped around a puddle to avoid getting her feet, wet and struck a rock and sustained a fall. She was unable to get up. She repeatedly tried, but she was in a swampy area with giant rose bushes all around her. She spent about six hours calling out for help and night was setting in. She was terrified, and it was later confirmed that during this ordeal, she had a heart attack. Perhaps that’s what initially led her to fall or perhaps it was the terror of being alone in the cold and dark by herself. There was a huge downpour of rain that lasted about an hour during her ordeal. Charlie the dog seemed a little unsettled and really wanted to go for a walk. My cousin’s roommate got a flashlight and decided that he would take Charlie out for a stroll. My cousin would usually walk her on a different route on the sidewalk. Charlie insisted on going down the path to the ocean even though it was a cold and drizzly night. This beautiful doggie led down the path where they discovered my mother. He (roommate) radioed for my cousin and they called the volunteer fire department that my cousin is a member of. They deducted that she had hypothermia and called an ambulance. They got her up over the hill and kept her warm until she was taken to hospital. 🖤🖤🖤🖤 this beautiful girl is responsible for saving my mother‘s life because there’s no way she would have survived in the elements close to the rugged ocean by herself. I’m so grateful to this doggy and she will regularly receive care packages of duck treats, which are her favorite. ❤️”

Hi everyone, I have been considering getting a Newfoundland for the last few years but my main concern is the heat and humidity of where I live. I’m in South Carolina and the summers are extremely hot. I obviously wouldn’t be leaving the dog outside during the summer and only doing morning/evening walks. I work from home so doggie will have plenty of company all the time. I also live right on the water and have a dock in my backyard so lots of swims and water time. Considering all these factors would it be reasonably to get one?

I asked a question on here where I could join a club of some sort about 2-3 years ago. Someone mentioned some groups that were near me. since then I’ve been water training her almost every summer weekend. well today we got our WD title. this is my first Newfie and honestly I have made mistakes. going through rough times but she keeps me going everyday. I’m so proud of her. and I’m learning more about myself and her.

My Newfie might have an opportunity to be an office dog! I want to protect folks from her slippery slobbery slobber. I was thinking to get her a bib for folks to be able to wipe her jowls down before petting her if she wanders up to them but all of the ones I see online are a bit kitsch with sayings and such. Anyone here have any recommendations for a drool bib? Anyone else have an office Newf where you need to manage their drool with clients or coworkers? How's that goin?

Kazimir is 17 weeks old and probably the most cuddly puppy I have ever had. I know he’s about to enter his rat phase but from the first day we brought him home he just wants to lay on us and be petted. I know they are all different but I just love this breed ❤️

Also, for anyone else going through potty training, a vinyl table cloth on top of your rugs is a life saver!

What the title says lol. Is this normal? I take her for a walk every day, but other than that she just sleeps or follows us around here and there. If the kids are home she has more energy to chase after what they’re doing, but she never goes and gets a toy to play with (she has dozens) or brings me a toy. If it’s just me or my husband in the house she sleeps all day. I don’t mind it, she’s the perfect dog in most every way. I mostly just get worried that we’re so boring that she’s given up on us. lol

Hi everyone! My 3.5yo is going to be getting a gastropexy and neuter in a couple weeks. I’m looking for any advice from people who have had it done before. Was it worth it? And advice on how to make the healing process easier for him. He is not going to like the cone so I’m wondering what we could do instead of the cone but still protect his incisions? Thanks for the advice and help in advance!

this is our rescue newfie, bubba. he has been with us for a little over a year, shortly after our newfie named moose crossed the rainbow bridge (he lived for 12.5 beautiful years). our neighbors found him for free on a craigslist listing and immediately went to go pick him up as they knew how dangerous giving him away for free on craigslist was. owner was a single young man whose family was getting divorced and he tried to care for him alone but couldn’t afford it and was too busy with work. i guess this kid tried to surrender him but everywhere was full (he is not fixed either, not sure if that affects if doggies can be in certain shelters/shops). poor bubs. he is so much like our moose and we often say he was sent to us by him as we thought we didn’t want to get another dog for years due to the heartbreak. our neighbors ended up giving him to us for free since they were aware we have experience with the breed. it is very clear that he was so loved and he is just the best and sweetest boy ever. i wanted to post this in hopes that maybe his first family could possibly see it! he came from somewhere in MN, he was ~6yo when we got him & ~7yo today, he has always responded very well to bubba but vet records show his “legal” name is Balakay (like from the key and peele substitute teacher skit) and he will respond to that as well. if you are bubbas first family or know them, he is doing very well! he gets walks, we keep an eye on his ears after we learned he’s had chronic infections and they have gotten so much better, he gets lots of treats everyday, and he is a very good boy at the groomers! i’ve always wanted to somehow reach out to bubbas first owners and let them know how much of an angel he is and while it is sad they had to rehome their dog we absolutely cherish every moment with him 🖤

I had been wanting to see if Kate likes water. I got my answer. We will be getting a very long leash so she can go further next time. (And a few towels)

Our beautiful girl has started drooling like a proper Newfy.

we have an 11 month old Newfie girl who is honestly the light of my life - half the time. But since we got her, she has been DIFFICULT. I say this as someone with experience of multiple large breeds including one previous newfie.

She was a challenging young puppy - the bitiest I’ve ever known, but in many ways she excelled e.g. she had consistent puppy training classes and picked things up so quickly, she’s always been friendly and forgiving.

She’s an awful teenager 🙈 she barks at pretty much everything, she counter surfs and will destroy literally anything on there (we now basically only have a toaster out), she has useless recall (longline walks only) and is desperate to play with other dogs to the point she will chase them and paw at them. She has developed a horrid habit of having at least one spell a walk where she jumps up and bites at her lead, and us.

Now I know much of this is down to teenage hormones. she hasn’t had a season yet, she’s very ‘young’ in many ways. We are consistent with her training and boundaries and where appropriate have sought professional help. She has plenty of exercise and is left alone max a couple of times a week for ~3 hours. I would consider her to have a pretty nice life frankly.

I love her to bits but I’m pregnant, due in 3 months, and I’m nervous she won’t calm even slightly before then. Our previous Newfie was extremely calm and your classic plodding, blundering type.

I would LOVE to hear stories of manic teenage Newfs calming down ideally around 15 months 🙈

(Just to add, I’m not worried about her behaviour with a baby, she regularly sees my nephew and is fine, though we are doing lots of desensitisation to baby noises and lots of place based training. just a bit worried about coping with her less desirable traits whilst postpartum and sleep deprived 😂)

We lost Liza (11.5) and her daughter Luna(8.5) last year a few months apart. She was my lifesaver that came to me at my lowest and wouldn't leave my side when my world was falling apart. I am so grateful for her.

I have a three-year old Newfoundland and a four-month old Newfoundland. My first newf completely deluded me into thinking the puppy stage wasn’t that bad. He was naturally shy and nervous so his puppy phase truly wasn’t terrible.

My new baby is the cutest thing in the world, but a menace to society. The amount of injuries I’ve sustained over the last month is astounding. From scratching me to head butting me, and everything in between. Tonight I hugged him from behind and he turned around too quickly and his tooth cut my forehead open. I wouldn’t trade him for the world but I’ll be surprised if I make it through his puppyhood without some long lasting injuries.

All in all, he’s a great addition to my family. My newfs are inseparable. But I need to stop underestimating the strength of an 80 pound puppy. He’s got confidence in spades and he throws his body into just about anything without thought.

Its my own fault. I gave in and let the girl have some costco tuna juice on her supper. Tonight I had to turn on the room air filter her gas is so stinky! Anyone else found this with tuna??

Anyone else get this: almost 50% of the time, in my first interaction with a stranger who has come across me and my Newf, they ask how long they live. Why are we talking about my dog’s death within 2 minutes of meeting?!? I find it infuriating and just plain weird. Why would anyone think it appropriate? I’ve started by responding that Newfs live forever.

My Newfie used to eat like a machine, I couldn’t keep him full and slowly over the past few months he’s gotten picky. He gets a meat topper on his dry food bc I’m a bleeding heart and I can’t help myself. I change it out so he gets a good variety. This dog gets everything from chicken/turkey to scallops and shrimp, he eats better than most humans (lowkey me included) and the prince decides if he doesn’t want what I give him he just won’t eat his food, Especially in the mornings but also in the evenings too he’ll stare at his plate then at me and do a chuff and turn away. This all changed when I got a whole young chicken on sale, I threw it in my crock pot with some water a few chopped up carrots and some doggie safe herbs and let it cook for a while. U gotta skim some fat but This is THE ONLY thing that gets him to clear a plate and it’s cooked down to the point where it just falls off the bone and you can easily sort through it. I’ll take some of the meat and carrot in a cup add some hot water so it warms it up from the fridge and it turns to a weird pulled chicken to mix in with dry food, but my god if this weird meal can help someone else I had to share it’s been months of trying to get a 160lb stubborn baby to eat.

Edit: he had been to the vet when this first started happening and they didn’t find anything going on, did blood and stool samples
