Hexus update, we changed his name to Beelzebub. He's now a glutinous boy that loves his bugs. He's still on a diet to drop his weight but he's actively chasing prey now. His favorites are hissing cockroaches currently and snails he catches from his pool.

A bit of history

Dusty is an ackie I rescued from severe neglect earlier this year. He wasn't properly fed, to the point at 2 years old he hadn't had gone through puberty, and lost most of his fingers. Although I am admittedly not the best, I have been doing my hardest to help him, but factors beyond my control ( such as the landlord refusing to fix the insulation in the house) have been making his care difficult. He went through constipation for a while and has been having issues with shedding where he won't completely shed, and more recently this showed up on one of his nubs ( he didn't have a finger there when I got him)

I know some people might think I am neglecting him myself, but I wanted advice on how to help him. As a PhD student I don't get paid much, but I took measures like getting him more basking bulbs for proper heating, lots of rough substrate, basalt stones so he can rub against them and shed, a hygrometer/thermometer with substrate probe to monitor the conditions of his enclosure and I even water the substrate every two days to give him the best conditions for shedding, but I feel like I am still doing something wrong

Edit: I'm also moving out of this place to help my lizards feel better. I'm doing all I can.

Edit 2: he hates soaks, but for the last two days I have been soaking him as much as he will let me without getting too stressed. He is pooping as a result at least.

Edit 3: I had to remove the heating bulb he had for nights ( used mainly during winter ) because of the timer I bought him to give him closer to 12 hours a day of " daylight". It is back on, but unfortunately this house is so screwed up the outlets can't even take the load. I am moving this week, but I still want to help him.

Edit 4: I have literally even got the oil of the relic of a saint to anoint him. I have tried EVERYTHING under the sun.

My husband found a monitor lizard while he was driving down the road today....can't make this up. Right now we have him in a large cage with a heat lamp and water. We have no idea how long he has been wandering. He seems like he is in good condition. We will try to find his owner but in the mean time, how so we provide the best care for him?

I have experience with iguanas but no other reptile experience

Question to the ackie monitor owners, how do you give eggs to your scaly child? Hard boiled, raw, in the shell or otherwise? Looking for a way to get my monitor interested in eggs I've tried scrambled to some success but looking for a way to really get them interested as it seems like a great way to get them multivitamins

Reposting here because I have always gotten a lot of helpful feedback and answers when I have asked about my Savannah monitor and now she is flourishing.
I know this lizard is not a monitor, but I have yet to receive anything truly helpful from the lizard or reptile subreddit. And I know my fellow monitor owners have invaluable knowledge. So I seek your help once again. If anybody knows:

My brother found and caught this lizard on his porch in Florida. And due to it being invasive, I told him not to release it. (I really said that because I know my nieces would love a pet lizard).
Anyone out there that can help me offer the care advice?
What is the husbandry supposed to be like? Substrate? Temp? Humidity?
Diet? I hear it’s insects and veg, what kind of veg? How often do they eat?
How similar is it to caring for a beardy? I know they’re relatives.
Do they also have a third eye like a beardy does?

And I’m sure there’s anything I haven’t asked about that you may be able to educate me on, please do!

I have many lizards including monitors of my own, I’m no beginner, but I haven’t cared for a beardy or agama quite yet. So I figured I’d come to you folks for help!! Thanks in advance!!

Howdy, I noticed when my tree monitor was drinking water, water would come out of his nose as he drank it. Is this normal?

I know when water comes out of their nose normally it is a respiratory infection, however he doesn’t have any water coming out of his nose it’s only when he’s drinking out of his water. Could he have been drinking it too fast?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice with my female Ackie monitor. I’ve had her for about 6 months, and I’m really struggling with persistent stuck shed on her toes. At this point I’m worried we may actually lose one of her toes, and I want to figure out what I’m doing wrong before it gets any worse.
When I originally got her, I wanted to put her straight into a 4x2x2, but the place I purchased her from insisted I get a 40-gallon enclosure instead. I have since upgraded her to a 5x2x2 enclosure, so she is no longer in the 40-gallon.
Her current setup/husbandry:
5x2x2 enclosure
Basking spot around 150°F
Linear UVB
Substrate is sloped from roughly 16 inches at the deepest point to about 6 inches at the shallowest.
Substrate is a mixture of topsoil, sand, and coco husk.
She has multiple hides on both the warm and cool sides.
Her hot/humid side is kept around 80% humidity.
I mist by hand regularly and also have an automatic mister.
She always has access to fresh water.
She is fed regularly with a rotation of crickets, large mealworms, and Dubia roaches, all calcium dusted.
She gets daily interaction, and I keep a close eye on her toes and feet.
I’ve tried soaking her to help loosen the shed, including Epsom salt soaks and Repti Shed, but it keeps coming back/staying stuck around her toes. I’m extremely hesitant to physically pull or peel it off because I don’t want to damage the healthy tissue underneath or accidentally make the situation worse.
One toe in particular is now concerning me enough that I’m afraid she could lose it.
Has anyone dealt with repeated stuck shed specifically around an Ackie’s toes despite maintaining higher humidity, deep moisture-retaining substrate, proper basking temperatures, and UVB?
Is there something about my substrate mixture, humidity, temperatures, diet/supplementation, or enclosure setup that could be contributing to this? Is there a safer way to help stubborn shed come off the toes without physically pulling it off?
I’m completely open to constructive criticism. If there’s something I need to change, I want to know. My priority is getting her husbandry dialed in and preventing any permanent damage to her feet.
I can post pictures of her toes, the affected toe specifically, and her full enclosure/setup as well.
