One of the things I love about Belize is the local food.

We are in our final stages, we hope, of finalizing travel plans for our first trip to Belize. We have the plane tickets so that’s a start. We’ve poured over this sub and countless FB groups and believe we have it down. Just wanted to check if there any glaring holes. Mid 40s couple more of tourists than travelers I’d say. Any input would be greatly appreciated. We haven’t booked any events or tours yet as with it being rainy season might wait a few more days to see how weather shapes up.

Hoping for some input as we are in the very early stages of planning a 10-14 day trip for 2027 either in late April/May or the very end of October going into November.

Couple in our 40s.

Interests: Mayan history/ruins/culture, wildlife, snorkeling both from shore and a boat, and some adventure.

Travel style: Not drinkers/partiers but like good food, prefer more off the beaten path smaller lodging, comfortable traveling on our own with a rental car.

Budget hasn’t been set but is flexible.

Our initial thoughts are to fly into BZE and go straight to the San Ignacio area for a minimum of 5 full days followed by another 4-5 full days at one of the cayes.

Experience wish list:
- Tikal
- Caracol
- ATM Cave
- Belize Zoo
- Jungle Hike (day and night)
- possibly Cahal Pech / Xunantunich unless that will be repetitive
- Great snorkeling from shore plus a boat trip or two
- Possibly Blue Hole but likely not worth it for snorkelers

Questions:

- is late spring or fall better? I’m thinking spring but would love input?

-suggestions for jungle lodging ideally with AC unless it truly isn’t necessary. Are any better located for our all day ruin trips or does it not matter? We will likely have a car so remote is ok

-anyone been to Coco Plum Island? How’s the snorkeling from the resort? Are there better options for the beach portion?I love the idea of tobacco caye but we really like AC…

- should we do a short stay at a 3rd location? Are we missing out by skipping both Ambergris/CC and Hopkins/Placencia?

- we are typically not return travelers since there’s so much to see around the world so are we missing anything from our must do list? Anything I should take off?

I will be visiting Belize next week and am looking for some people to do excursions with preferably on the 11th or the 12th as I’m struggling booking any tours due to many companies not being able to meet their minimum for guests. If anyone is there during those dates and is interested in a snorkeling adventure or has one planned for those days and wouldn’t mind me joining their group please pm me 😭. I love sea creatures and this is the most significant thing for my venture.

First time in Caye Caulker with the wife. After great recommendations, we stayed at the Iguana Reef Inn. Nice view of the calm ocean. Rooms are very comfortable, or at least the one we were in.

As someone mentioned, the continental breakfast was meh. But nothing to complai about. The staff have been great and friendly. I had coffee and toasted cinnamon bread. Our room had a full size fridge and coffee, so mainly had coffee in our room and sat on the balcony enjoying the view.

Food has been awesome. I'm not a seafood person but I tried the lobster at 3 places, Roy's, Reina's, Lazy Lizard and liked them in that order. Lazy Lizard seemed very commercialized but was ok. Ceviche at Happy lobster.

The wife asked if I wanted Italian and the reviews for the 2 places are good, I said let's skip it and stay with the belize food. One more day in Caye Caulker, I'm going to try Lionfish. Any recommendations.

All day snorkeling with Carlos tour was a highlight. Its slow season, so only 7 on the catamaran, so sort of like a semi private tour.

Hi everyone, I plan on travelling alone to Placencia in Oct for about a month and I'm looking for any info on what to expect to pay for a furnished 1BR or studio in the village. I realize you get what you pay for but I refuse to overpay. I just need something clean and has room for myself and my dive gear. Thanks!

Hey guys, Two travelers will reach Belize around Sep 20, coming from Bacalar, Mexico. I’m AIDA‑3 certified, and we want to book a private freediving lobster tour out of Caye Caulker.

Could anyone recommend reliable local captains or tour providers? We also need info on tourist lobster‑fishing laws, open‑season rules, permits and approximate costs. Any firsthand experience is welcome. Thank you!

I wanted to share this because I think this conversation represents something bigger than just another artist interview.

Belizean-American artists King Micah and Evannah V recently appeared virtually from Dallas, Texas, on Channel 5 Belize’s “Open Your Eyes”, discussing their music, their Belizean roots, their family’s musical history, and their vision for representing Belize internationally.

What makes their story interesting is that the connection to music is deeply generational.

Their maternal grandmother was a music teacher who taught music theory and composition, while their Belizean family lineage also connects them to the late Leela Vernon, one of the most important figures in Belizean Creole culture.

On the American side, the sisters also come from a Chicago hip-hop lineage connected to Bump J (Terrance Boykin).

Rather than choosing between their Belizean and American identities, they're building music that brings both worlds together.

Evannah described the sound as a fusion of reggae, pop, dancehall and punta, with the goal of creating something that can travel internationally while still carrying Belizean identity.

And honestly, I think that's an interesting conversation for Belize right now:

How do Belizean artists build a truly international presence without losing the culture that makes the music Belizean in the first place?

Belize has incredible musicians, artists, filmmakers and creatives living both at home and throughout the diaspora. The challenge isn't necessarily whether Belize has talent — it's how we build enough visibility, infrastructure and cultural documentation for that talent to be recognized globally.

King Micah has also been working on expanding beyond music into media and cultural storytelling, while continuing to release music connected to Belizean and Caribbean sounds.

Is there anywhere to watch college football on Saturdays?
Is there an ATM? (Doesn’t appear so.)
Anyone know when the fruit/vegetable/meat vendors come around? We met Henry on Front St who comes around on Thursday’s, but wondering if there are any others?

For most days in Belize, think light, breathable and comfortable. Shorts, T-shirts, lightweight tops and sundresses work well for sightseeing, beach towns and casual dining.

If you're planning tours, quick-drying clothing is especially useful. Between the humidity, tropical showers, boat trips, waterfalls and other outdoor activities, heavier fabrics can stay damp longer than you'd expect.

I also recommend packing at least one lightweight long-sleeved shirt and a pair of lightweight long pants. They're useful for jungle trips, sun protection and times when mosquitoes are more active.

And you probably need fewer dressy clothes than you think. Belize is generally pretty casual, and resort-casual clothing works for most evenings.

I'm trying to find a way to get from Placencia to San Ignacio... preferably for as cheap as possible.

Please could anyone advise?

Coming in late January, will it be cold? Can we expect 85F or 27C during the day? Is it best to stay right in San Pedro if we like to bar hop and be close to restaurants. Do you book flight to Ambergris Caye in advance or wait til you arrive in Belize. I see flights are frequent, every 40 minutes. THanks

Myself and a group of 6 other friends are visiting Belize for the first time in late January. We have lots of questions. However the biggest question right now is transportation. We are flying into Belize city and have an AirBNB in Placencia. We will be there for 8 days and definitely want to site see. Here’s the question. What is the best way to travel from the airport to Placencia? Do we take a shuttle service? Should we rent a van since we would like to site see? Do we really need one? Any advice on how to navigate travel within Belize would be most welcomed.
