Other BEWARE

Post image
Upvotes

My little guy has this in my room (out of the cage thank god), and I never had any issues with it. Today, I heard him quietly screaming (?) which was unusual.. so I turn around and he’s basically choking in this orange ring. He’s fine now, but I can’t imagine the horror I would’ve come home to if the swing was in his cage. Vet appointment on the 11th just to be sure

Funny How to stop sneezing

Post image

Not allergic or anything. Whenever I sneeze he gets scared and will often try to fly and strand himself on my floor. I would like to eliminate all sneezing to end these transgressions against him. Has anyone found a way to stop sneezing?

Injured Bird Nail bleeding

Upvotes

PLEASE HELP ❗️

I cut my bird's nail too short a few hours ago, we put flour on it. However I held pressure on it with a tissue so it probably wiped away.

He was bleeding so much I think, I got so scared and my parents got mad a me for crying. My dad said to just leave him in his cage to let the bleeding stop.

He seems normal after a few hours and my dad says the bleeding stopped, but im too scared to check on him in case he starts moving around in his cage. Last time I checked on him was around 30 minutes ago and he was moving like normal.

Should I take him out now ? And how to I stop the scab from re-opening ? Also i can't clean his cage till night and i cant tqke him to the vet. I'm very sorry I know i was being irresponsible I'm still very scared, I just want him to be safe.

Advice Advice on moving between houses with a conure

Upvotes

Hi guys, first-time poster. Soon I'll have to start moving back and forth between my mom's and dad's houses 50-50, so every week I'll switch. I have a conure, Tallulah, who is currently afraid of the carrier. I'd like any advice on carrier training to getting her comfortable at the new house. Info: her cage at the new house will be the exact same size, set up, and orientation to the room (across from my desk) in order to keep her comfortable. Anything helps! Thank you!

Advice Day 23 of spending time with my grandparents conure

Upvotes

Sorry for the late post, but we're back in business! The eggs have been removed, and Stella is doing well! I decided to get back into the habit of handfeeding her to get her over her fear of hands, and she seems to be really trusting with me!

Oh, and some of the problematic family members were visiting yesterday, so I took the opportunity to try to teach them proper etiquette with her, reminding them that when she starts flapping her wings and beating on her toys, she's upset and would like them to step away.

I also stuffed another cottonwood ball and set it on the open door of her cage to encourage her to venture out more. What else am I doing that I can improve on?

Cage Setup Needing ideas for the new set up

Post image
Upvotes

Ignore his current set up as it was cleaned yesterday and set up for sleep only.

Near 20 all need varied wood branches come! Grape, birch, apple and coconut wood to replace his perches (something I have been wanting to do for the longest but Ive been able to finally do 🎉🎉)

along with 8 new all woods varied toys so I can get rid of the bits and bobs with bells, unnatural colors and fiber strings. (I know I have some in frame but they are being rid off 🎉🫡 my family gives them to him and I dont have many all wood toys until now)

I also got new stainless bowls as he keeps breaking the plastic ones and the single water bowl is not enough for his soup making.

We do not use the bottom door so that is space for branches too.

Essentially, show me some set up ideas!

This is going to be a massive upgrade but he has been slowly introduce to variety perches that he does not like the poles currently in and prefers textured.

Editing to add: If you saw my last post asking if he knew how much I just spent on him, yes this is why. I just did drop a pretty penny on him for this but it is worth it. Before asked how I do this: I just saved so much per payday so I am able to do massive hauls on cybersales :D

Advice Tips please for eating

Post image
Upvotes

Had my girl for 4 years and first time I’ve had the issue, just got back from a 2 week holiday (friend looked after in my home) and for 2 weeks prior to that she was at my sisters whilst I did some decorating.

Neither mentioned lack of eating and when I came home could see pellet dust so looked like she had.

However she’s not eating any pellets the past few days nor veg that I’ve offered her. Feel she’s upset with me leaving her for so long! Have gave in and gave her some seeds as I’d rather she eat.. how can I get her diet back on track rather than her retaliating and starving herself

Otherwise I think she’s normal, attachment issues back to normal with her

Tax attached

Health/Nutrition Is this normal beak growth?

Hello! A few days ago I noticed my bird Noodle's beak looking weird. Is this normal keratin growth in his beak? He is about 5 years old and I have not seen it look like this until lately. He has been on the same pellet diet and eats his fruits and veggies regularly. Should I add more calcium to his diet?

Advice My Bird Is Mad At Me. Will I Be Forgiven?

Upvotes

My conure, who we've had for about two weeks, is mad at me. He is in my home office, door always closed, and has the run of the room most of the day, At night I add fresh food and treats so he will go back in his large cage and I can close the cage door. I just prefer him in cage at night even though door is closed. So I was trying to get him to fly toward his cage, and he smacked into a shelf. He isn't injured, didn't hit hard, just looked a bit dazed. I picked him up, he didn't try to bite, and put him in his cage. Offered him a treat and he didn't want it, very odd. Now, he does get mad at me EVERY night when he goes into cage and I close door, he is trying to outsmart me, when he sees me walk toward cage when he is in it he jumps out! This guy takes food from my fingers but if I offer my hand with no treat, he's gone. He does play, he likes to tear things off the hook on his cage-top jungle gym, like the bell and the ladder, and toss them over the side of the cage. I guess he had no attention at the store where I got him. He likes to play but not with me, lol. He is 11 months old for reference.

Advice Is this a tail bob?

Upvotes

My GCC snuggled into my neck and I noticed maybe a slight tail bob with breathing. Ive also seen that sometimes small ones like this can be ok and only more major ones are issues? She was really pressed in and maybe was just struggling to breathe back there. She never sits still so it’s hard to get a good look at her resting. Should I be concerned?

For a little context, last night we had a run in with a neighborhood cat. I was going to check the mail and I opened the door with her on my shoulder. She saw the cat on the front deck and tried to fly, but ended up fluttering to the ground as she is clipped. He bounced on her for a split second before my dog came out, barking and scared the cat off. There was no sign of immediate injury and she returned to normal after maybe five minutes.

I’ve seen that cats can cause pretty bad infections and I haven’t been able to take her to the vet as the only one that deals with birds is closed until Tuesday.

My mom was home with her all day and she was acting perfectly normal and still is.

ConureCon+ Plus - Inaugural Event Coming up.

**ConureCon Plus — Bay Area 🦜**

A few days ago I floated the idea of getting some Bay Area conures and their people together. We got some interest — but I have a feeling there are **hundreds of conure owners around the Bay Area**, so I’m trying again.

I’m calling it **ConureCon Plus**. The “Plus” is simple: **other small parrots are invited too.**

The immediate idea is easy: a fun outdoor get-together, our birds safely harnessed or in carriers, maybe a potluck, some food, some laughs, and a chance for both the birds and their humans to socialize.
But I’ll admit I have a slightly more ridiculous vision too.

**Think CorgiCon — only with feathers.**

Maybe ConureCon Plus starts with 20 people and some sandwiches in a park. Great. That alone would be fun.

But maybe it catches on. Maybe someday there are a couple hundred birds and their humans, food trucks, booths, parrot toys and gear, demonstrations, vendors, sponsors — who knows?

Maybe people start flying in on their Learjets with their parrots from Beverly Hills. 😂

I’m quite good at coming up with silly visions like this. **Actually knowing how to make them happen is another matter entirely.**

So if you love parrots and this sounds like fun, I’d love to hear from you.

**And if you’d be interested in volunteering — or happen to be one of those mysterious people who actually knows how to turn a slightly crazy idea into an event — I’d especially love to hear from you.**

No grand commitments. No business plan. Let’s just see who’s out there and where this might go.

**Comment here or send me a DM. I’m Paul.**

🦜 **ConureCon Plus. Let’s see what happ**ens.

I am really proud of my conures space. I have spent alot of money and time designing the space for my sun conure Uli (sounds like Julie without the J). Her door stays open all the time except for bedtime. I have a camera on the other side of the room so I can watch her when I’m at work. I just wanted to share with others and of course pictures of the girl herself!

Other Update on Ziti the foster bird…

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Ziti is the bird we’ve been fostering for about a month now. No owners have come forward and we’re really thinking they were abandoned on purpose.

To refresh your memory, they were only about 50ish grams when we got them, and now up to 63!! We’ve gotten bloodwork and found that liver looks good (very long beak so we were concerned - yay!) but has a phosphorus and calcium deficiency (which jives with the theory that someone wasn’t taking care of them and abandoned on purpose).

Our vet is so enamored with Ziti that she baked some bird bread and human cupcakes and asked us to come to the clinic on her lunch break for a gender reveal. It was adorable!!

drumroll

Blueberry in the birdie bread means Ziti is a boy!!
