Imagine a team consisting of a Joltik and their partner, the former riding around on the latter's head, and likely being the leader despite being so tinie

Even better, imagine one day a human wakes up in the world of Pokemon... and they're a tiny bug of all things

Thinking about an old mental image I had, imagine they make it to town and have to constantly run around to avoid getting kicked around or stepped on, as they're simply too small for most mons to notice as they go about their day (and even worse, imagine they finally notice and freak out at the sight of a bug 😅 or more specifically a parasitic tick)

I imagine the partner would be a sweet boi and maybe a shy boy, with the Joltik offering words of encouraging words of encouragement from on top of their head, encouraging them to be brave, and of course having to rely on them to fight since they're to really able to do so themselves

OH, wait!

I just realized how perfect this is. Joltik can have the ability Compound Eyes, so imagine he has excellent eyesight which he can use to analyze his surroundings before giving instructions to his partner. This also brings to mind the canon relationship between humans and Pokemon -- Pokemon rely on their trainers to come up with winning strategies for them, letting them focus on fighting instead, since you can't exactly stop and think things through while being attacked by your opponent

As a result the two of them work really well together and are stronger together, and him shouting orders from his command post (aka his partner's head ❤️) does bring to mind the relationship between a Pokemon and their Trainer, which I feel is a very nice touch

But anyways, that's just a fun random thought I had and figured I'd share! Definitely feels like it has the potential for a really fun story too if I do say so myself^^

Yessss I have just made my new team as a tiny challenge for myself :3 These are the new heroes of Team Valiant!

Chase- the human turned Riolu! He is just a guy whose done with everyone. Very tired and a bit jaded, alot of which comes from his time as a human in a post-apocalyptic world. Although at first he was a bit overwhelmed by Rustys antics, he will soon learn to appreciate his friends love of the world.

Rusty- the incredibly shy Phanpy. This kid has no self esteem and seeks any and all validation. Although socially he is a train wreck, he is a explorer at heart and soul. He doesn't want to just explore dungeons and find new places, he wants to document all the strange new artifacts and pokemon. He latched onto Chase not just because he saved his treasure, but because this very chill, quiet Riolu didn't seem bothered by his frantic nature.

I made these two boys as a bit of a challenge for myself, given that Phanpy isnt the best pokemon at all and ranked one of the worst. But I know these two goobers will be friends :3​​

Sadly it's not sky version, can I anyway enjoy the story mode at its fullest? I am not planning on investing anything in the postgame, only in DX

I have a pitch and everything, I just don't have any of the skills to code, sprite, or anything. It's just something I've always wanted to do. I've been told to do a PMD ttrpg game, but tbh I want it to be sharable with a lot of people, not just a couple friends. And a similar reason goes for fanfiction.

I'll put the pitch, just in case any Romack devs are here. Please hit me up, I have more in mind than just what I'll be putting here. Not a full story yet, but sort of an outline.

in the start, your character (fully evolved) is travelling with their partner to a new continent, but falls off of a chartered airship into the ocean and washes up on an island not far from the mainland.

You are woken by another, younger Pokémon and your character model isn't visible due to an obstruction in the foreground. You have amnesia, as is standard for PMD at this point, and cannot remember much other than falling and nearly drowning before passing out in exhaustion after finally reaching land. And then your character stands, and the foreground shifts to reveal that you've somehow de-evolved. Now, of course, you don't remember ever being fully evolved but you do remember feeling stronger than you are now. You join your new partner, who is already a member of the local guild, in becoming an adventurer in order to try and learn more about yourself and your circumstances. Early dungeons will revolve around your apparent natural knack for adventuring, and discovering more about yourself as you complete more and more quests.

The main portion of the first part is learning about the island, and finding out that a rival guild is seemingly invading your guild's territory with them acting as the main antagonists (especially your former partner) of the first half of the game before shit starts hitting the fan. Said shit are slumbering legendries that are said to be capable of altering the very fabric of reality, and said fan is an unknown player going around and intentionally waking them up and putting them into a primal rage.

Gosh I want to build so many things

Local tribe leader with a very high opinion of himself and for himself onto a rescue team in order to spread his greatness to everyone else in his territory

While researching for a story I'm writing, I found a lot of random details and worldbuilding ideas that sound cool but probably wouldn't ever come up, so I decided to share them here. I like confining magic systems to real physics to find possible explanations and potential consequences, and I learned a lot about the Shinx line specifically (though a lot of this could apply to other Electric types too). Here are the notes from comparing Pokédex descriptions and biology:

• Electric attacks:
  • Electric eels have specialized cells called electrocytes that don't contract, but use chemicals to generate a strong electric charge at a low metabolic cost. As the process relies on chemicals to create a charge, electrocytes would require time to reset (which is not the same as charging) and can't be used frequently in a short time span.
  • I’m not familiar with piezoelectricity, but it could be another explanation. It focuses a lot more on compressing and squeezing a substance to generate electricity, a better fit for Shinx's description, but it would be more energy expensive. Because the compression is how the electricity is generated, even the compression of muscles through actions like walking could create a consistent and quickly repeatable charge, though it would be a lot weaker and require constant motion (think about it like a windup flashlight, though technically a different process).
  • It’s also possible to have both, with structures in the muscles for piezoelectricity that could generate low power electricity for the electricity based senses that I'll describe later, while electrocytes are stored alongside them for larger bursts and attacks. Neither would take up too much space on the legs producing a lot of power.
  • Electricity is hard to control and energy intensive, so moves like Thunderbolt wouldn't be reliable or easily repeatable at a long distance. The farther away a target is, the more likely an electric arc will strike something else, with many factors like humidity, geometry, conductivity, and existing charges making the path even harder to predict.
  • On the other hand, claws could efficiently transfer electricity into a target, which solves the accuracy problem, and reduces the risk of backfire, and also follows Luxio’s description. Using electrocytes and claws that way could also reasonably cause anything from twitching to death, though 1,000,000 volts is probably a bit much.
• Sharing electricity:
  • Electrocytes would require paths that lead outside the body and insulation on the inside to prevent electricity from travelling through muscles and organs, which would cause involuntary contractions and damage (even for an electric type). Having conductive paths through the body would require immense insulation and would generate a lot of heat, so it’s unlikely (but still possible) that groups of electrocytes would be connected to other groups. In other words, one limb could “run out”, while another is “full”.
  • Also, I feel the need to mention that electrocytes still generate heat, and having large ears helps the body cool down. If you look at Shinx, some things start to make sense.
  • Storing electricity in the body would require a lot of complex structures and chemicals that would create a high risk of damage to surrounding tissues and organs. These would be very mechanistic and unreasonable to maintain through natural processes, while providing little return.
  • Multiple Luxio joining their tails together to create a stronger charge doesn’t make as much sense with this view, and that would require a lot of focus to synchronize the charge rather than shocking the other Luxio. Likewise, if there is a threat that requires increased voltage, attacking it from multiple angles seems faster and more effective.
  • However, there is a way this could make sense. The exact description is, “By gathering their tails together, they collectively generate powerful electricity from their claws.” This could be interpreted as the tail giving signals that help them synchronize their attack rather than sharing actual electricity. From my haphazard research, it seems that hitting something with multiple shocks doesn’t simply add the power up, and varying timing, voltage, and polarity could actually weaken the combined strike. By synchronizing these variables, they could generate stronger attacks without actually sharing electricity.
• Communication and glowing:
  • Since they likely wouldn’t have a means of storing electricity, Shinx’s description about trembling would have to be caused by something else. The description supports this by only associating trembling with the generation of electricity, which is realistic as a visual indicator of electrocytes activating. Trembling could be accompanied with discharging low powered sparks through the claws to send a clear threat without spending much energy.
  • Their tail could also have a separate set of electrocytes that allow it to have additional attacks, but it would likely be used more for communication. This could include visual signals like in Shinx’s description, or complex signals through contact, similar to the forearms which are used the same way in Luxio’s description.
  • Their skin could also have bioluminescent or similar mechanisms that glow when triggered, which would create the flash effect mentioned in Shinx’s description, though it probably wouldn’t look as sparkly or flashy as depicted in media. The electrocytes could be directly compatible with these as both utilize similar chemicals and could create a form of relay, but they could also be independent of each other.
  • The yellow stripes on the forearms and the yellow of the tail make sense as the parts that glow when electrocytes are activated, though media usually depicts a full body glow. It’s possible for them to have full body bioluminescence to create startlingly bright flashes at a low energy cost, though patches could create a similar effect at a lower cost.
• Senses and X-ray vision:
  • Lions have increased smell, hearing, and night vision, at the cost of being dichromatic. Whether the Shinx line would have color vision is a whole debate in itself, but Pokémon are generally shown to be at least trichromatic even when real world counterparts are not. Pokémon in PMD are shown to be people in every observable way, giving additional aesthetic and social reasons that increase the chance for improved color vision.
  • Magnetoreception: Some animals, like birds, fish, and insects, have sensors like microscopic magnetite crystals to passively detect the cardinal directions through Earth’s magnetic poles, which aids in navigating. This would be somewhat easy and fitting for the Shinx line to have, even if they don't travel great distances.
  • X-ray vision just isn’t possible for a living being. It takes a lot of mechanisms to generate that kind of energy, which is also harmful to living beings, and then it would need a method of returning the signal without depending on a reflective substance. However, Luxray’s description only describes seeing through objects, not literal X-ray. There are three senses that could give something similar to this.
  • Tier 1, infrared sensing: This is what snakes use to detect prey. It detects heat rather than electricity, and can’t sense through walls, but would provide information about temperature, distance, rough size and shape, and disturbances in the environment at a low metabolic cost.
  • Tier 2A, electroreception (passive): Luxray could have special features in their ears, eyes, whiskers, and limbs to passively detect electric fields, like some fish and sharks. This kind of detection is often used to locate the muscle contractions/heartbeats of prey, and can somewhat accurately convey size, location, and motion on animals, or flowing currents in machinery. This sense can only reach about the length of the subject’s body in water, and it would be weaker outside of water, but it can reach through objects. It’s hard to say if Luxray could sense farther than their body length since they could reasonably have stronger senses, or if it wouldn’t reach as far due to the worse conditions. This sense would have the lowest metabolic cost, allowing almost constant passive awareness even if only at a close range. The heavy rain often associated with lightning would greatly decrease their other senses while improving this one, giving a legitimate survival reason to have it.
  • Tier 2B, electroreception (active): The difference here is using an organ that produces its own waves for detection (as how bats produce the sound for echolocation). In other words, Luxray could generate weak electrical fields and detect interference and disruptions in them. This would improve the previous information with the added details of material properties, structural configurations, and even possible communication, at the cost of draining electricity (though much less than an attack would) just like in Luxray’s description. It would be less accurate the less conductive a substance is, though it would reach further than passive electroreception even if not by much.
  • Tier 3, electrical tomography: This is entirely speculative, but theoretically possible. By making physical contact with an object, Luxray could bounce electric signals into it and discover the layout, conductivity, moisture levels, mechanisms, cavities, and surface detail in a way the previous senses couldn’t. It would be incredibly energy and focus intensive, and it would reach less distance than the other senses. Moving paws along the object in a kneading motion would provide clearer details, while also compressing muscles in a way that works really well with piezoelectricity generation.
  • None of these would be directly related to sight, however Pokémon often uses “seeing” and “sensing” interchangeably, so it could still fit. Either way, Luxray could have one or all of these senses to detect prey and young through objects (to an extent) like in the description, though hearing and smell would almost always be more useful for locating a target. These senses would be a lot more useful for environmental information.
  • It’s possible for Tier 2 and 3 to cause signals through the eyes, indirectly creating the glowing effect in Luxray’s description. It’s also possible this glow is part of an automatic vision dampener for improving focus (the same way you might close your eyes to focus on a sound or smell).
• Lightning resistance and protection:
  • As mentioned before, even an electric type would suffer from electricity crossing vital organs. Eels have insulation around electrocytes that ensure electricity travels out and not in, so Shinx likely would as well.
  • Their fur could contain a waterproof oil that keeps water away from the skin to prevent the accumulation of conductive material inside the coat, while keeping an insulating layer of air against the body. Since lightning storms are often accompanied by rain, this oil would be important in decreasing the risk of getting struck, while the flowing water around the coat could guide a lightning strike around the body rather than through it.
  • The skin could also be more resistant to electricity, though the material and density for skin with stronger resistance would correlate with less flexibility, less efficient cooling (which is already a problem for Shinx), and more metabolic energy for regeneration and maintenance. On the other hand, conductive skin could be easier to regenerate and redirect electricity broadly along the shoulders and tail to spread the heat. There’s a theoretical balance between the two properties of skin that would decrease the damage from lightning strikes, but not efficiently or reliably. The most resistant and insulating material should be around vital organs.
  • In areas with a high risk of lightning, they could have instincts to avoid isolated trees and other objects, open elevated terrain, water, and other conductive structures (including each other), while crouching with their paws close together to limit ground contact. They could also discharge electricity to reduce the potential difference between them and nearby objects to prevent themselves from standing out. This could lead to a “low power” mode that suppresses electric charge, though it wouldn’t help much against lightning.
  • Many animals have forms of hearing protection to avoid damage, but something sudden and loud harms them before they could react. Because of Shinx’s senses, they could know when they are in a radius where they need protection against thunder, and their ears could automatically seal. This would give a legitimate reason for having those other forms of communication.
  • These methods are a backup rather than a failsafe, as even lower power strikes that reach into the body could leave burns or worse. Lightning is unpredictable enough to still catch those senses off guard, and is powerful enough to overcome resistances and even cause harm outside of the direct strike, so the best method of protection is avoidance. With that being said, evolution favors traits that offer any amount of an increase in survival, so it's still realistic for the Shinx line to have them.
• Diet and habitat:
  • Pokémon in PMD are implied to be vegetarians, which complicates a lot. I won’t go into much detail here, as I will be making an actual post about this, but even a larger animal like this could live on a vegetarian diet.
  • These foods could include: nuts, seeds, oil-rich fruits, legumes, starchy roots and tubers, bulk foods, tender grasses, leaves, shoots, flowers, nutrient-rich seasonal foods, fruits, berries, nectar, fungi, etc.
  • Electricity generation would probably require an increased intake of sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride, though many of these can be internally recycled for electrocytes. Some people have suggested eating electricity directly, but I couldn't find any way for that to work for an animal.
  • Luxray typically live in a savannah/temperate grassland, which could realistically provide enough food, especially with intentional cultivation, though minerals would be harder to replenish. A tribe would have to travel around a lot more for ready access to salt deposits.
• Amp Plains
  • In PMD, the Luxio tribe is described as nomadic, which fits with the previous problem. They only stay in Amp Plains when the lightning season is “to their liking”. But why would they like a place so dangerous when they wouldn’t be able to reliably survive strikes?
  • The conditions associated with lightning provide a lot of environmental benefits, like fresh water, soil fertilization, atmosphere purification, and potentially beneficial electrical activity for the context of the Shinx line.
  • Their senses would allow them to analyze the danger much better than a normal animal, and maybe even other electric types. They could detect and avoid danger zones (but not specific lightning strikes) while reaping the environmental benefits. Other Pokémon avoiding these areas also means more territory. This would naturally give them a social meeting place for reunions or meets. It could also give them a place to train their abilities and senses, especially while young (which could have been what was happening when the tribe got attacked in Explorers). The improved electroreception during storms would be especially useful in locating their lost young if they got separated, as the other senses wouldn’t be as much help.
  • The conditions that create lightning storms could be healthy or invigorating for them, like soaking in a hot spring. These storms could be to their senses what an aurora is to vision, or what music is to hearing (though getting struck by lightning would not spark joy).

Looking at Amp Plains with these ideas makes it feel very Warriors to me, and it's so cool that I'm disappointed I won't be doing much with it. Because this isn't a theory and the goal is just to sound reasonable, I won't defend any claims, but feel free to attack or add ideas. I'm developing a turn-based roguelike inspired by games like Mystery Dungeon.

This time, I wanted to show one of the nastier situations you can run into: a Monster House right at the start of the dungeon.

You're surrounded by enemies almost immediately, so fighting them normally can get you killed pretty quickly. You'll need to make good use of your items, positioning, and companions to survive.

I'm planning to run a closed test in October.

Omastar absolutely DESTROYS this dungeon.

It begins with spike cannon and hydro pump. If you have rapid bullseye, this pokémon becomes ABSURD.

At level 17 (iirc) it learns rollout, making it an unstopabble force to be recon with.

If you are Lucky enought to find the TM of rain dance, you literally win. It's an automatic GG.

Just a random thought I had. Team ACT was willing to hunt you down across an entire continent for a rumor from a known troublemaker. A rumor that they didn’t even seem to believe in the first place. Imagine what they’d do if someone had actual evidence against them for something, even if it was minor. If they had access to social media they would genuinely be a menace.
