Iโve been trying to go through all of Pureflow, interpreting the lyrics so that by the time MMN drops, weโre caught up on the journey theyโve taken to get here. Talking about journeys, today Iโm doing Celebration, a song that celebrates the journey taken so far to get to this point.
If Iโm honest, I feel like this shouldโve been the first real track, before Boompala, since narratively, the song is sort of the starting line to the path weโre going to traverse in this album. The song congratulates the members (and also us, the listeners) for making it up to this point. It hasnโt been easy, and theyโve made some mistakes, but theyโre here now, in one piece, and that is something thatโs worth celebrating!
The song also acknowledges the running theme I pointed out in previous posts - the whole fearless thing didnโt exactly work. Or rather their approach to it doesnโt work, since putting up a front of having no fear doesnโt eliminate that fear. So they say goodbye to that version of their motto, and ask you to sing along to Fearless 2.0.ย
The chorus (and some lines in the verse) indicate the long path thatโs still left to run. This is just a rest point for now, us stopping to celebrate how far weโve come, all our pain that blossomed into faith, all the uncertainty weโve taken on, as we continue on our path to success scarred hand in hand with the members.
The mv pushes this further. The protagonist is a โcreatureโ who feels like he needs to put on a mask of perfection to fit into society. Le sserafim follow him around, trying to recruit him into their rave, which is just a Creature party - a Celebration for all the people who have been scarred by life, but still have the passion to keep rising.ย
I personally liked this song, but it never really grabbed me, mostly because there really isnโt enough of it to do all of that lol. Le sserafim does a lot of genres, but never once had I felt like they didnโt commit to any of them, like their version was some cheap watered down copy. Until this one. It suffers from the same dregs of capitalism that Boompala does, where the need to make it marketable for a wider audience of kpop listeners actively hinders it from exploring the genre theyโre doing. Hardstyle/techno is a genre meant for clubs, taking you to highs and lows and ending with even higher highs, and you canโt do that if 2:33 is all you have to work with. Itโs why the fan-made remixes or the Sarah Landry remix sounds more like what they were trying to do. This was like the one song that actively needed more remixes, but Source is stupid and put all its eggs in the Boompala basket, when this was a much more interesting song imo. It really is an inspiring song and couldโve done better if they gave us something to work with.
Anyhow, the song addresses both you, the fearnot, and the other members of le sserafim, acknowledging the rebirth they went through in Hot, and promising that they will be with each other as we move onward with the journey in the rest of the album. Which I will post about shortly I promise๐ญ๐ญ.
