I recently lost one of my fancies after a long battle with a condition I have never encountered before. I had her for a little over a year in a 300 gallon stock tank pond. Her eyes were never quite right from the time I got her, slightly sunken and misshapen with deformed pupils. I figured it was a cosmetic deformity only, but maybe there was something more going on. About a month ago I noticed one of her eyes looked infected (swelling, cloudy, but no sign of injury). I treated her in a hospital tub for 10 days with Microbe-Lift Broad spectrum disease treatment and epsom salt since I wasn’t sure what was going on. Over that time her eye burst and the socket appeared blackened (as pictured) but her behavior NEVER CHANGED. It looked like it was healing so I added her back to the pond.

Besides being completely blind (her other eye never worked) she was totally normal for approx. 2 weeks. Thats when I noticed slight behavioral changes, she just wasn’t acting “herself”. About 5 days later I noticed the other eye had the same affliction and the next day I found her deceased.

I have no idea what I could have done differently if anything. Her name was Clementine and she was always a friendly and particularly dumb goldfish, so she will be missed. I’m hoping someone has seen something similar before and can educate me about it because I’m stumped.

This is Michael and Skippy, my two little guys that I rescued from the fair! It’s been awhile since I’ve kept goldfish, so does anyone have good recommendations for plants? I’m trying to establish a more natural environment for them! :)

My two common goldfish have outgrown their 29 gallon aquarium and I need to upgrade to something bigger for them. I found a 55 gallon one on Facebook for $100 with decorations, a lid, filter, etc.

After we agreed on the location, she asked if I wanted to know about the fish that were included. They are 9 albino cory catfish, 6 white skirt long fin tetras and 6 black skirt tetras and 1 pleco.

This was news to me. I don't think everybody's gonna fit inside of the fish tank and I don't feel like I've got enough time to rehome them. Can any of these fish exist with my common Goldies?

Honestly, it's stressing me out so much that I might just decline the purchase.

Received this 100 gallon tank as a gift and finally got it all set up after resealing

So we recently got donated a big tank and i thought i would give petsmart one more chance for a goldfish for my son. Wells turned out it had ick and I've been trying to take care of it the past few days only for it to succumbed to ick. I been maintaining the water closely and and keeping an eye out for it to get treated but when i came to check on it just earlier, I learned it had passed.

Two petsmarts we went to told us they were dealing with ick, so the third one I went to said their fish didnt have any, I should've known thay was a sign to not get any goldfishes.

I tried to only maintain a small dosage of the ick api but it also looked like the amout I put in also burned the poor baby's scales.

Im starting to lose hope on trying to raise more goldfishes.

On the other hand, my goldfish from a local breeder and my one eyed betta is doing well... after cleaning the tank, I might just let the betta upgrade to the bigger luxury suite

I recently started getting into planted aquariums. Worked great in my other tanks but my goldfish ate everything. They ate every aquatic plant I tried so far even Anubis. I recently added pothos to the top of my tanks and not even a day went by and my goldfish ate most of the roots. I grow duckweed separately just for them to snack on and they still eat everything. Any magical goldfish proof plants plants I should try?

My moor frank was living in a tank that is too small (were still searching for a larger tank as I'm not allowed to rehome them) and I just came home to him shaking underneath a plant covered in white fluff? None of the other fish are acting this way. I scooped him out and have placed him in a hospital tank,

What the hell do I do? None of the other fish are displaying symptoms and I'm doing another water change as well.

I have 2 common goldfish and the feed I had been giving them has been sold out for a while, so I think I'll need to switch.

I've used Hikari in the past but stopped since the bags are fairly small and it gets expensive quickly for me. I was looking at Kenta's High Growth Sinking Pellets and it seems to have similar ingredients to what I previously used.

Curious about others thoughts on Kenta for common goldfish or whatever fish you have?

Unfortunately had a sudden loss in my tank and I’m trying to determine what may have gone wrong. Bit of background: this is a fish I had got from a local fish store about 3 weeks ago who had been completely fine until today. He had been swimming around, eating, no clamped fins or hiding. Today I noticed red spots before he had a rapid decline. I’m thinking the spots appeared sometime last night into today, since 2 days ago he was completely clean. Parameters were 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 20 nitrates. Tank is 125 gallons and his other fancy buddies are all completely fine and do not have any red spots/streaks.

Yesterday I noticed one of my black moors eyes was partially red. Yesterday was water change day. No concerning parameters before or after. But a new almond leaf in incase it was an infection. No changes so far. Could it be a color change? Or should I do a methylene blue dip or salt bath or quarantine??

I’m currently in the process of moving house and while netting my fish I noticed a small injury and a growth on my black goldfish fin is it bad and what can I do?

Hi, we need urgent help on our fantail goldfish Cookie. Our aquarium is 26L, and we know that it’s already small for it, we were about to get a bigger one. We went on a holiday and changed the water before that, after 1 week the fish started behaving weird and it can’t even resist the filter flow. We have been changing the water for 2 days, Cookie is still suffering like in the video, we don’t also feed it. Is it possible that Cookie can survive and what else we can do? I’m planning to get them some sea monkeys (I’m blanking on the proper name) to eat, and colorful plants. Not sure what substrate I’ll use though.

Anyway, any other unique ideas for enrichment? especially tank decor ones.

Hii! I’m setting up a 55 gallon permanent tank for my goldfish (1 fancy, 1 normal carnival goldfish)

They are currently in a 10(i think?) gallon tank while I set this one up.

I was wondering what some colorful plants would be that would survive in the tank, since I know goldfish can see lots of colors and I want to enrich them; plus I want it to look nice.

Especially pink, purple, blue ones. And any colorful plant that helps remove nitrates/nitrites or that goldfish really like

So I ended up getting 3 goldfish from the fair, and got caught in the comet goldfish trap. I have my boys in a 35 gallon rn and ik it’s not enough for them, I wasn’t aware. I was wondering if there is anyone with a pond, or an aquarium big enough, that is willing to take them. I don’t want them to get stunted or die because I couldn’t fully take care of them, I know someone can do better. Please reach out if you know literally anyone. I’m in Michigan and I’d prefer not to ship them to anyone.

A lot has happened since my last update I have switched the tank from a 60 gallon standard to a breeder for more lateral swimming space I also chose to not do sand for easier cleaning especially with the big boy I have learned a lot and lost a lot in the 3 ish year journey im grateful to the people of the community that helped through the years I’m excited to see what comes next currently looking for the next member of the tank! My fancy has had these spots on her tail for a few weeks now. Her behavior is totally normal, no lethargy or flashing or clamped fins. The spots haven’t changed or spread. I half-tried including aquarium salts with water changes but I wasn’t that committed. The spots showed up after doing a fish in cycle when I upgraded her to a 55gal tank, and she was definitely stressed during that period. Any ideas what it is? Should I be treating it?
