Engage General Playing engage atm. Seriously who writes these dialogues?

Just met this Yunaka girl and holy crap who writes this shit?

Also every mf gushing over the divine dragon from the second the game starts... I can not take this game serious.

What happened?

Edit: okay after a day with Yunaka she's my favorite character and literally my wife. Am i schizo?

It was fun when Yunaka breaks character, or imitates other characters in cutscenes. Let the VAs flex!

It's especially funny because IN-GAME, Alear and Alfred comment on how cringe she talks and it's clearly meant to be uncomfortable for them

For all the "nooo Engage take itself seriously it's not meant to be funny" criticism, it have the best comedic timing in the entire franchise, between the "Come again ?" when Yunaka talk about her speaking ring, anything Goldmary says and Vander breaking down when Alear say they need to run

No, there is no other character that act even remotely like Yunaka. There's gimmicky and preppy characters, but nobody else is as obviously "whacky random xd" as her fake persona.

Hortensia is much more serious, so is Rosado and Celine. Alpcaca guy is not particularly whacky in his dialogues, nor is Zelkov. Who else would you say even come close ?

They named multiple in just their initial reply, but the vast majority of the cast just acts and/or talks weird, even the supposedly normal characters.

Yeah, engage has alot of issues, but yunaka isn't of them.

I loved her support conversations, that cringe peppy talk of her really sounds forced

This is why I hate discussing Engage's writing online, so many people immediately dismiss anything positive said about it. You can dislike how Yunaka talks, that's fine, but saying that giving the explanation for why she acts the way she does is just an excuse for bad writing is so frustrating to see

I found the writing for Engage to be fine but nothing to write home about but you see people treating it as the worst thing ever, there are media with worse writing than Engage.

I agree, Fates story writing at it's lowest is stupid (I still like the character writing mainly in supports). The closest Engage's writing gets to Fates is Zephia giving Alear the crystal to travel back in time on her death bed for no reason and immediately gets another death scene with Griss, it did lead to cool chapter but the loops and hurdles it goes to get there is stupid.

I still think the worst writing in a game I experienced is Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, I like the gameplay side but the writing in it is boring, convoluted and contradictory.

This is why I hate discussing Engage's writing online, so many people immediately dismiss anything positive said about it. 

My god, thank you. You can't even try to be fair to the game or disagree that no, I actually didn't think it was the worst thing ever, without people outright dismissing it. You can literally talk about or show them things in the game, or what the game intended to do, and they will literally claim YOU made it up.

(Sincerely, someone who dared to appreciate the "be who you want to be" theme that presents in many of the characters and their supports, was told I was 'reaching', when the devs literally laid out said theme in an interview lmao.)

And the defenders who claim the game wasn't meant to be serious at ALL really muddy things too. Just kneejerk reactions all around. Love it whenever I can find people with actual nuanced opinions on this game.

Yeah I managed to find a small community that actually discusses the story of Engage when the topic comes up and it was such a breath of fresh air lol. I wish the wider community could be like that but I don't think that'll really change until Engage stops being the most recent title, too much toxicity around it currently

Same! I'm in a few small servers with Engage friends and a writing group as well (that's pretty thoughtful about the series and its characters as a whole, it's genuinely so nice) that coming out into greater fandom feels like such whiplash.

Looking forward to the new game partly because I just want the extremity surrounding Engage to... calm, hopefully? Lol.

Yunaka is literally one of the only well written characters in the whole bloody game, and I say that as someone who loves the damn thing. (The Pan siblings are also pretty good!)

I liked celine

She seems like a pampered bland noble who's only personality is drinking tea, but some supports show that she actually rules her land quite viciously and is quick to resort to blood spill.

I liked her and Alcryst both, mentioned them in a separate comment. The secondary siblings were all surprisingly pretty good this time around.
