Family History Quest: Looking for lore on the Berzinski or Butler families (Craiglie/Mossman/Cairns, 1920s

Upvotes

Hi everyone hope you don't mind me asking this question on here,I am doing some deep family research. I am looking for any local "family lore" or unreleased stories passed down through generations.I am specifically looking into Albert Ludwig Berzinski (1899–1976). He was born in Craiglie and lived around Mossman and Cairns. In October 1924, Albert was involved in a Cairns court case involving a local girl named Isobel "Ina" Violet Butler (the newspaper mistakenly printed her name as Isobel). Shortly after, a child named April Butler was born in April 1925.Because of the social stigma in the 1920s, the biological father wasn't listed on the birth index. Albert completely disappeared from the local news right after the initial court hearing. I highly suspect Albert is my great-great-grandfather.Since the Berzinski family are early pioneers of the Douglas Shire (there is even a Berzinski Street in Mossman), I am hoping someone here might recognize these names.Does anyone have old family stories about Albert Berzinski from that era?Are there any descendants of the Butler or Berzinski families still around who might know the background of this 1924 situation?Any small detail, rumor, or piece of town history helps fill in the gaps. Thank you so much!

Any social/care workers here that can give me any advice on where/if I can find employment without experience in cairns?

Upvotes

My knees hurt too much to carry on with warehouse work so I’ve had to let my job go and I want to give back to the community whilst earning enough to get by. If I do need experience or training, are there any relatively quick courses I do? Unfortunately, I don’t own a car at the moment, which I understand may be importantes. Thank you so much.

The police helicopter does not prevent crime. It only chases the stolen cars.

Upvotes

The crime has already occured. Spend my tax dollars on actual prevention.

The helicopter(s) are a waste of money.

The only thing it prevents is peace and quiet.

Protein petition to stop the constant helicopter noise

Post image
Upvotes

An official petition has been put forward to the Qld government, with submissions open like 6 months ago. It closes in around 2 weeks.

For those who think the noise is not that bad, don't forget there will soon be two of them flying around.

So far 240 people have signed.

Missed connection: Cairns North Cinderella

Upvotes

Buckle in guys I have a wild request. I met the most perfect Cairns woman in Munroe Martin Park on Thursday around midday.

You were stunning. Your two teeth glistened and were reminiscent of the flowing waters of Chinaman Creek, with umber, yet also verdant hues. Your hair was a bouquet of fragrance, akin to the aroma of an Esplanade easterly wind.

The way you called me a "maggot dog c**t" and threw bottles at me made my heart melt.

You rode away on a bike without brakes before I could get your name or number. However much like Cinderella you left behind a glass memento, not a slipper, but a clear pipe with scorch marks.

Reddit, do you believe in love at first sight? Help me find my Cinderella again

Kuranda Honest Opinion

Upvotes

I’m staying in Cairns for a few days and come up to do the Skyrail. Contrary to some opinions I’ve seen, I loved visiting this small town. I’m from South Australia and Cairns itself is a different world, let alone Kuranda. The Skyrail was amazing and I highly recommend doing that. It was definitely a hippy town which I had no idea about until I walked into the markets. There’s some really great small businesses with people who are passionate about creating authentic products. Whether that be skincare, perfumes, clothing or food. I striked up quite a few conversations with locals and they were all enjoyable to talk to, and seemed to live a very peaceful life. Some of those people may have beliefs that others don’t agree with but it was really interesting to converse with these people and hear about their lives. The whole vibe of the place was very peaceful and grounding.

Looking for a cool car hire

Upvotes

So my young fella has his school formal in a couple of weeks, and unfortunately my mates classic muscle car has shit itself and won't be able to take him and his date in. Does anyone know someone we might be able to go through, or someone who wants to make some extra cash for an hour or so of work? Northern suburbs.

Reading it online (first time) and there is an ad for Aldi on the front page? I thought the closest Aldi was in Townsville? Or did they sneak one up here and I just haven't noticed it? 😄
