This coming spring I plan to plant perennial wildflowers in between at least two of my 4 rows of fruit trees. To keep space to be able to prune and harvest when the time comes, I probably would only want a few feet wide strip down about 50 feet. Any advice how to do this? Is broadcast seeding during winter beneficial at all if I mow down the grass as short as possible?

Finally first set of fruits are about ready.

Approximately 60 gallons of Italian prune plums from 5 trees. Do we need or use 5 trees’ worth of plums? No, but it’s nice to have them to give to our friends.

Our local bear population loves our peaches. Last year they broke off 1/3 of the tree while climbing on it. This year it just bent over. Any thoughts on what to do to get it to come back to normal shape?

In my backyard orchard, I thought I had 2 peach trees and 1 nectarine tree. Come to find out that my “Flavortop Nectarine” is actually another peach tree. I definitely didn’t want 3 peaches trees!
Anyone have any luck with approaching their garden center to ask for I don’t know what….refund, discount on an actual nectarine tree, or ?? The tree still has the original tag on it from my point of purchase - Al’s Garden Ctr in Portland, OR. I def plan to do a drive by when I have time.

Planting developed fruit trees for the first time, it says to backfill with native soil. Does "native soil" mean from the immediate area? Somewhere else on my property? Or can it come from local soil companies? I would use what came out of the hole but there were some large rocks so I don't have as much going back.

The original tree in Isaac Newton's garden at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, under which 'the notion of gravity came into his mind occasion'd by the fall of an apple,' was propagated from before its eventual demise in 1814. Over the years material has been retained by repropagation, and the trees offered are direct descendants of this.

She was producing an absolute abundance this year until they all began to get these spots and shrivel up! 😭 I looked online and found pear scab seems to somewhat fit, but the leaves don't seem to be affected like I have seen online. Does anyone have any guesses?? I'm gutted and I really want to help bring her back to life!

I need something small, lightweight, ideally cordless to cut branches off fruit trees. In addition, I need something also small, lightweight, and ideally cordless to cut the bottom off thick plastic buckets. These cuts should be clean. These tools are meant for a friend who is petite, hence the specifications.

My fruit is finally growing after a couple years. At what point do I harvest it? Does it need to ripen on the tree or is that something that happens on my kitchen counter post removal?

I don’t want to harvest it prematurely or anything, but I’m shooting in the dark here. I’ve only eaten cherimoya a handful of times, so I’m really just going off vibes.

Massive growth spurt this season how does it look tree around three to four years old not sure

I’m not sure this is apple cedar rust although I know I had some earlier in the season. The leaves turn brown and gray. The newest few inches of growth in top are fine but after a week or two they will also shrivel up. It’s followed the same cycle for all season.

I just repotted a dragon fruit from a neighbor that was in a pot with an aloe and several other succulents. I built a dual post trellis out of left over lumber. I went with a dual post because I couldn’t decide on an economical way to keep a single post from rotting out.

The chicken wire is to drape window screen mesh during 95+ degree days.

Any suggestions on modifications? I’ve acquired a few more pieces of wood since and am open to suggestions.

I guess I don't mind sprawling on ground but it would be nicer if they can be a little more organized and bunched up? I have a square plot of dirt surrounded by concrete so it's naturally isolated from the rest of my trees.

Despite its proximity to overgrown evergreens, the little tree that could is producing a truly impressive crop that have a really lovely texture and flavor. It’s been badly neglected, it’s trying to grow sideways into the shade, and half the crop is growing literally on the ground.

The main trunk is growing at such a parallel to the ground, I’m not sure how to approach this beyond just taking grafts and starting over close to the base. It also has some exposed roots on the west supporting all the weight.

Any advice would be appreciated!

It’s important to clean up drops in the fall . We don’t eat or press drops due to the deer droppings mingling amongst the apples on the ground . Removing drops prevents insects and disease over wintering in them. It can be a sizable project in our 24 tree orchard but helps keeps our trees healthy. Grandchildren love helping us pick them up.

We recently moved onto property that has multiple mature pear trees. The pears are still very hard with virtually no give at the stem, but they come off the tree easily and have started falling off on their own. We live in Western Washington, and the pears currently don't taste very sweet. A select few have a slight red blush. Any ideas?

Thought you might all appreciate our splash pad turned mass pear wash. Worked out really well as the intial rinse to our harvest of about 950 pears. Set aside about 100 as table pears, and the rest got turned into about 10 gallons of juice (which is now begun is fermentation journey to hard Cider/Perry)

It's Spring in New Zealand and the perry pears in the orchard are about to burst open into blossom. A time of rapid change and promise.
