CW: Sexual Violence Addressing excuses for neo Nazis

Upvotes

CW: racism, sexual violence, child abuse, murder

So I’m curious how others might navigate excuses made for Neo Nazis/fascists/white nationalists.

The will provide a direct example. There are some creators I followed o line that appeared to be leftist and talked a lot of anti-fascist points. So I thought cool, good. Then there became a trend on them using audio of neo Nazi/white nationalist Christina Moody saying she was proud of killing a pedophile.

Now firstly many misattributed the quote to Aileen Wournos.

I pointed out several times that:

1) We should not be praising Neo Nazis regardless of our opinions on how we should address the issue of child sexual abuse and pedophilia.

2) Moody and her husband belong to an organization headed by a convicted child predator himself, the only difference is he’s white and the man they murdered was black.

3) While pedophilia is a horrific crime, murdering someone who served their time and has no record or evidence of re-offence is a dangerous slippery slope and the murder of his wife, who was not involved in his crimes and may not have even known is still murder and inexcusable.

The issues I’ve faced is I’ve been called an apologist for pedophilia, which I am not. I’m a survivor. And while I believe the current system fails to address the issue before a crime is committed and I’m a staunch prison abolitionists I find myself struggling to articulately explain that siding with a Neo Nazi is still unacceptable and given them even an inch gives legitimacy to their ideology.

So how would you respond? Am I off the mark? I just feel disgusted that someone would excuse such awful ideologies just because they killed someone society doesn’t like and views as irredeemable.

Again. In case I have to state it loudly: pedophilia is a disgusting crime, I’m a survivor of it. This is not me saying they do not deserve some form of punishment/consequence for their actions.

Discussion So is Germany Becoming an Open Nazi State Because of The AFD?

Upvotes

So I’ve been watching news here and there about the politics in Germany. I’ve been in particular curiously observing the rise of the AFD. This is basically if the Republican Party was a designated terrorist group.
Like how on Earth does an organization that still holds designation as an extremist organization become a political party that holds a 40% popularity rating with the German population? People are able to openly praise hitler again, promote Holocaust denial and just be out and about Neo-Nazis. They want to bring ICE to Germany (i.e. SS, Brownshirts). Even there leaders talk like and sound like hitler.
Nazisim is making a comeback across Europe and America, it is truly a sad thing to see.

Discussion Saw a guy in a Skrewdriver t shirt today.

Upvotes

It was the first experience outside of a protest/demo situation where I’ve encountered someone with such openly white supremacist imagery. He did not seem very happy to be confronted about it and I guess was just going around presuming people either wouldn’t know the band or wouldn’t care that he was be eating white power band t shirts? What are you even supposed to do in that situation? I just said “are you seriously wearing a skrewdriver t shirt? Fuck you” and he kinda slinked off looking slightly embarrassed.

The Israeli army raided two schools in the northern occupied West Bank province of Nablus on Sunday as the new academic year began, local sources said.

The sources said Israeli forces entered the grounds of Huwwara Boys Secondary School south of Nablus, threatened the school administration and demanded the removal of the Palestinian flag.

Video Don't forget about us people! We are still fighting to survive to this day. Winter is about to enter and this is where we live. HELP US PLEASE

I recorded this little video to give you a look at what my family and I have been working on and trying to make usable.

And honestly, calling it a tent is generous.

It is made from pieces stitched together. There are tears and holes everywhere. Some of the covers are too short, leaving spaces open from above. We have tried to fix, stitch, and reinforce whatever we could with what we have.

For now, we can use it. We can sleep inside and keep some of our belongings there.

But we know this won't be enough when the rain comes.

My father, and honestly not even him alone, says that our so-called tent will not stand the first rain that comes. Everyone who passes by and sees our tent can tell how vulnerable it is. You don't need to be an engineer to look at it and understand that it won't protect us when the rain comes. We have done everything we could with what we had, but we know this won't be enough.

October is next month, and rain in Gaza is nothing unusual.

It was never really built to be a home. We built it because we needed to create some kind of space for our family and our belongings.

And this is perhaps the hardest part to believe:

This “tent” cost us 1,000 shekels in cash.

1,000 shekels for a shelter that may flood when the first heavy rain comes.

Can you imagine that?

This is the reality we are living every day in Gaza. Even something as basic as shelter has become incredibly expensive, while what we can actually get for that money is often not enough to protect a family.

Now we urgently need to make it better before the first rain comes.

We need to replace the damaged covers, especially the one above us, and find something to put on the floor so that we're not directly on the sand. If possible, we may replace the whole thing with a proper tent.

To everyone seeing this, we need you.

We need your help to make this place safer before the rain arrives. If you can help us, please do. And if you can't, even sharing this means something to us. We are running out of time with each day and each hour that passes.

I have other videos showing the inside and the damage more closely, but Reddit only allows one video, so this is all I can show you here for now.

I don't really know what else to say.

I just wanted you to see it.

This is what we are trying to call home.

History An unprecedented theft law: To steal the homes and property of the Palestinian people.

Upvotes

March 15, 1950 - Israel enacts Absentee Property Law

On this day in 1950, the Israeli Knesset enacted the Absentee Property Law, which expropriated the land and property of Palestinians who fled their homes during the Nakba in 1948. The law declared that any Palestinians who had been away from their land during the war (even if they were seeking refuge in a neighbouring town) were considered “absentees” and lost all rights and ownership to it. This consequentially led Israel to demolish hundreds of thousands of Palestinian homes and expropriate millions of acres of Palestinian land. As a result of this, hundreds of indigenous cities and villages were systematically destroyed by Israeli soldiers and transferred to Jewish Israelis, preventing the return of the original owners.

This was one of several important laws which were designed to dispossess Palestinians and prevent refugees from returning to their homes. Today, many Palestinians remain to hold on to keys that unlock doors to their properties in Palestine, hoping that one day they will be able to return. The law remains active today and continues to be used in East Jerusalem to dispossess Palestinians of their property and transfer it to Jewish Israeli settlers.

"The law gives anyone who is a Jew the right to claim property, in principle, whether they could prove their ownership to it or not. But a Palestinian who was displaced from his village in 1948 has no right to claim his property back under such a law.”

History Ottoman archive: Palestine's weapon against occupation

Upvotes

The struggle of the Palestinian people to prove their ownership of lands under Israeli occupation has been taken to a new level thanks to the Ottoman archive.

Turkey late last year handed the Palestinian Authority an electronic copy of the Ottoman archive of some 38,000 pages of land ownership registries for Palestinians.

The Ottoman Empire notably ruled the territory of historical Palestine from 1516 to 1917 and the archive contains documents dated to pre-1917.

The archive is currently located at the Mithaq Foundation in East Jerusalem. The foundation belongs to the Palestinian Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs and is dedicated to reviving heritage and Islamic research.

The foundation has received special safes from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to store the archive.

"The Palestinian archives were lost due to the British Mandate, the Israeli occupation, and the population displacement of Palestine," Murad Abu Sobh, head of Ottoman documents at the Mithaq Foundation, told Anadolu Agency.

He noted that "Israel is depleting Palestinian lands on the pretext that they are absentee property or claims they are properties of Jewish individuals and associations."

He asserted that the Ottoman archive is a "lifeline" for Palestinians to prove the ownership of lands and properties.

Abu Sobh stated that the documents are confidential and are given to the concerned parties after consulting relevant Palestinian institutions.
