Assistance Lost bunny at the show!

Hi all, our youngest has lost their most loved toy, and unfortunately it hasn't been handed in to the lost and found!

Lost on Sunday, around 11am somewhere between Jubilee and the showbag pavilion - he was tied on my bag and somehow came free!

We're hoping someone has picked him up, but we would really love him back! He has been our youngest's constant companion for the last two years, he's pretty grubby and has some paint on him so he wouldn't be much appreciated by anyone else

It's a mustard yellow country road bunny - and he's very well worn, the last picture is the most recent I have of him, his label is frayed, he's got a couple of holes and isn't as yellow as he used to be

Please message me if you've found him, or know someone who might have - we head back home interstate tomorrow but are very happy to pay postage to get him home!

I’ve seen these posters in the trees along port road. Just wondering what the aim is? To spread awareness? Or is it aimed at someone specific in the area?

Question Anyone else have this post-cold cough just that won't go away?

Upvotes

I had a cold a month ago, pretty standard 2 day bedrest recovery, and have had this throat tickle since that I can't shake. No other symptoms; more annoying than anything else.

Neighbour was also sick 2 weeks ago, got all better and now he's coughing away too.

Anyone else?

Assistance Vet recommendation for cat with kidney disease

Upvotes

Hi there, my cat and I have recently relocated to Adelaide and I need to find him a vet - he’s a senior cat with Chronic Kidney Disease. I’m after a vet who is particularly knowledgeable/experienced in this area who knows how best to proactively manage kidney disease, someone who cares with attention to detail.

We’re on the north/west side of town but I don’t mind travelling further for someone good.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated đŸ™đŸŒ

Politics Whistleblower lifts lid on Belair line delays, Adelaide Metro issues as government denies claims

Upvotes

Fatigued train drivers are being forced to work 12 days in a row, navigate an ageing rail network and endure cockroaches in the driver’s cab, an Adelaide Metro whistleblower says.

The Adelaide Metro worker, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said burnt-out train drivers were working 12 days consecutively, adding to safety risks posed by aged infrastructure and unfixed carriage issues.

He also claims delays recently faced by Belair line commuters followed a major safety breach as fatigued train drivers navigate a rail network in chaos,

“Since the railway has gone back to government, unfortunately it has gone backwards,” he said. “The rail network is in such a bad state, it’s only a matter of time before an incident causing injury or death will occur.”

The worker said the public was not told the reason for delays on the Belair train line throughout August, which followed an unexplained “operational incident” closing the line on the morning of July 30.

“The truth is a major safety breach occurred, which resulted in major infrastructure damage,” he said.

“The infrastructure is so old and obsolete that parts aren’t available – hence the continuing issues on the Belair line. Often, parts are cannibalised from other parts of the network, as there are no replacements.”

Some of the delays, including on August 10 and 11, were blamed by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport on heavy rainfall flooding an Adelaide Hills rail tunnel.

An Adelaide Metro spokeswoman and Transport Minister Joe Szakacs both said they strongly rejected “these anonymous claims”.

The spokeswoman maintained the delays were caused by wet weather – but would not provide details of the July 30 incident.

“Some rail infrastructure components are specialised and unique to the network. Where replacement parts are required, they may need to be manufactured or sourced through specialist suppliers,” she said.

The whistleblower said safety breaches and incidents were increasing as train drivers battled fatigue, while cockroaches in the driver’s cab were “not uncommon”.

He said drivers often worked two to three days overtime a fortnight to cover crew shortages – and when they asked for time off because of fatigue, they were told it was not possible because of “operational requirements”.

“You are forced into using personal sick leave. A lot of train crew have exhausted their balance due to fatigue,” the worker said.

“Morale is at an all-time low. Sick leave is at an all-time high.”

He said train faults, reported by staff, were not rectified for weeks and months – including isolated doors, broken glass and lights not working.

The spokeswoman for Adelaide Metro said it took fatigue management seriously, had systems to manage driver safety, and any overtime work was voluntary.

“Since the rail network returned to government operation, the number of train drivers has increased from 187 to 210,” she said.

“Where maintenance issues are identified, they are assessed and prioritised based on safety, service impact, and technical requirements.”

Mr Szakacs said the government had delivered on a 2022 election promise to “scrap the Liberals’ disastrous privatisation of our rail network”.

“We are always looking for ways in which our service can be improved,” he said.

Discussion Real Estate companies are disgusting.

Upvotes

One of my mates is moving out of their unit. They pay $435 pw, I was interested in this property since it's in a nice environment, outside the city, 20 mins from CBD.

I live 7 mins from the CBD. Pay 460$ pw, got a decent job and stable income. The real estate person had a sweet chat with me, asked me about my employment and blah blah.

Then asked me to send over all my statements, payslips blah blah.

Call me today and say the owner is happy with me moving in but the rent is 470$. He reckons that unit smaller than my one will go in the current market for 500$. Told him to get fked.

I'm positive that he saw me paying 460$ and tried to milk me extra 10. Fuck them all.

Discussion Job Hunting

Upvotes

Anyone else struggle with finding a job?

I’m 20F and I have been unemployed for over two years and it sucks. People take me as a joke, make fun of me, exclude me, say im lazy and useless. I have applied nearly 500-1,000 jobs in the two years with dozens of interviews yet still no offer. I even apply to the easiest roles like retail. Still nothing. Even the no experience jobs. My friends have even tried to refer me and let me know when they’re hiring still nothing. I feel like a joke, a fool. I honestly have been considering moving countries to do working holiday visa so i can actually work and earn money.

Like lowkey im thinking of looking through bins and collect 10c bottles and cans for at least some cash.

Any tips would help.

Edit: thanks for advice guys. Please know I will be taking it into account. For the harsh comments that aren’t constructive criticism, lol.

I was driving and saw the backpack rolling onto the road. I’m 90% sure it was left on the roof of a red hatchback car that turned in in front of me. I picked it up and tried catching up, but lost them at the lights.

Looks like it belongs to a 3 year old girl called Paige.

Any ideas?

Self Does anyone in Adelaide know anyone or anything that can help with eating disorders?

Upvotes

I’ve been to about 8-10 psychologists trying to get “help” for my eating disorder. I have been told that instead of accepting weight gain, I should stop snacking. I have been told to try extreme exercise. I have been told to splash water on my face. I have been told to start weighing myself. I have been told to see a weight loss specialist. These were all not very helpful at all. This “advice” just made it worse. I struggle with anorexia with the binge-purge subtype. I have had it for years now. I see a doctor once a month and I also see a psychologist. The psychologist doesn’t talk about my eating disorder.

Does anyone know of anyone or anything that can help me with my eating disorder in Adelaide or Australia?

Edit: please don’t say Advanced Psychology Services. I had a very very awful experience there. The psychologist was extremely rude and patronising

Edit 2: I have done numerous referrals to the Statewide Eating Disorder Services and have never heard one reply. I have had doctors and psychologists and other specialists submitting referrals to them since 2020

It's a Monday and the lineup for the exchange is approx 100m, with two people manning the registers. I'm sure everyone in this line would happily pay the "savings" offered to get out of line.

Question Weekly ebike subscription in Adelaide?

Upvotes

Hello, I am living in Campbelltown and work in Adelaide University East. Being close to the O-Bahn has made me thinking to commute to work via ebike, but unsure if I can endure the 30+ minutes commute.

Thinking to try it out with a temporary ebike subscription. Anyone knows a reliable and reasonable priced vendor for this?

Question Going through a rough breakup, good therapist/psychologist to speak to?

Upvotes

For reference I'm a male and 2 months ago my fiancé left me with little explanation, blocked me from everything immediately and hasn't reached out since, I tried to reach out from a burner account which was just left unread. I never really got any closure and I've been struggling with ruminating thoughts ever since. I've also fallen into a bit of a hole, and can't focus on anything or find fun in much anymore. I really loved her.

I've never really spoken to anyone about my personal affairs, and don't have many close friends to talk about this stuff with. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good person I can speak to?

Thank you
