New Update Version 3.10.0 - New redirect method, better flair search.

Upvotes
  • Assorted bug fixes
  • Improved redirect method to Old Reddit. Allows browsing without logging in.
  • Improved "Search by flair". Clicking on a flair now uses the legacy search feature for a better experience.

NOTE - The extension might ask for new permissions when updating. This is because of the new redirect method.

Bug Report Being signed out with "redirect to old reddit" can lead to HTTP 429

Upvotes

Going to old reddit while signed out, the site redirects you to new reddit to sign in. The extension redirects it back to old reddit. And back and forth. While I was trying to turn off, the site hit the "too many requests" status. Probably should be check for that.

Bug Report Firefox (PC) - constant reddit reloading when add-on is activated

Upvotes

SOLUTION: I figured out the solution - turn off the "redirect to old reddit" option in the YFOR settings. Strange since that option was always turned on, but turning that off seems to have solved the issue for an hour now. Switched that option back on a few times to see it the constant redirecting happened again and it did, so turning that setting off is the solution.

ORIGINAL POST: All of a sudden if this addon is activated I can no longer use reddit, reddit keeps refreshing the page making it unusable. Only way around it is to disable the YFOR addon. Been using this addon for a year without issue. Just started happening about an hour ago.

Feature request - contrasting 'read' link colour

Upvotes

Recently installed after switching to an OLED screen. The "True black" mode was exactly what I needed, but it's come with the downside that followed links and unfollowed links are no longer different colours - or if they are, the shade is so similar as to be indistinguishable.

Would it be possible to select different link colours for followed and unfollowed links?

Bug Report When I press “Settings” in the settings for Yesterday for Old Reddit, I get a blank page

Upvotes

Hello. I just purchased Yesterday for Old Reddit, and set it up according to the instructions. However, I can’t seem to access the settings. When I tap on “Settings” from the settings page, I get a blank page. Also, there is no cog icon in the top right corner.

I am using this on an iPad Air M3, iPadOS 26.6.1.

Thank you.

Is there a workaround for reddit now requiring logging in

Upvotes

Occasionally Reddit seems to pop up this screen saying to see the page in old Reddit I need to be logged in

Is there a workaround that this app can apply to bypass this? They seem to flip it on/off but the writing is on the wall, at some point all access to old Reddit will need a logged in account

Other Does YesterdayForOldReddit Support UserScripts

Upvotes

I tried porting over my UserScript that I use to highlight certain domains and it seems to be getting overrided by this extension just wondering if it's supported.

Also is RES shortcuts supported? I see the bar but it just blank.

Bug: Unexpected sidebar when opening home

Upvotes

Hello I’m getting a sidebar on the left when under the home tab. It shows multi reddits and some other account info. This didn’t come up before today and it’s squashing all the posts on the right so you can’t see the text unobstructed.

Feature Request Three ideas related to filtering subreddits

Upvotes

I don't log in to reddit on my phone, so I use the subreddit filtering feature to curate my frontpage. I prefer to filter out non-english subreddits, so I'm adding new subs to the list every day, no exaggeration. It's probably closer to every browsing session. I would love to be able to pin or star that section of the settings so that it isn't hidden behind 3 submenus, each of which I have scroll for. Not sure how plausible my second suggestion is, but having a way to filter subreddits by substring (like "india", to filter all subreddits containing the word india). Lastly, since I'm on mobile I like to copy the subreddit name from the post itself. The issue here is that it includes the "r/" prefix, which I have to delete every time after pasting. It would be nice if the filter was compatible with that format, but this is purely quality of life and not a major issue.

Overall, love the app, it's the only thing keeping reddit usable on phones. Thanks for all the work you've done.

Feature Request I don’t suppose there’s anything you could do about the “Processing img…” issue?

Upvotes

I keep seeing examples of this issue where someone on new reddit posts a picture and then it doesn’t show up on old reddit. If you open the permalink in new reddit or a private window that isn’t logged in, it shows up normally. I did some google research and this issue has something to do with the API changes and in order to truly fix it I’m sure you would have to add all sorts of API shenanigans that is far beyond the scope of what your extension is.

I didn’t know if there was something easier that could be done, maybe even just providing a link to open the comment in a private browser (I looked and I’m shocked I couldn’t find an existing safari extension to do this on iOS) or perhaps some iframe trickery that shows the image inline? That might be a lot to ask, as always I don’t expect you to move heaven and earth for something that is fairly minor overall, but I do think it would be cool if there was an easier way to see these pictures that other people post.

Thanks for your time.

One of my browsers is Ungoogled Chromium which doesn't have built-in access to Google's web store for browser extensions. Is it possible to install Yesterday some other way?

Bug Report Stuck on Please wait for Verification

Upvotes

Recently I reset my safari history, cookies, logins etc. After this, reddit gets stuck on a page with Snoo in an orange circle. The title of the page is “Reddit - Please wait for Verification”.

When I turn off Yesterday, the page immediately follows through to new Reddit. I can then turn back on Yesterday, and use old Reddit as usual

I’ve logged in, which seems to help, but the issue keeps coming back. It also happens every single time in incognito mode. I did not have any issues prior to the reset.

Version 3.7.0 - A lightbox for your media.

Upvotes

v3.7.0

  • Assorted bug fixes
  • Clicking a flair on a post now searches for that flair in that subreddit.
  • Added a lightbox to view full-res media in-place.
    • Works on images in comments.
    • Works on thumbnails in search pages.
  • “Expand Media Inline” now works with external hosts - eg, imgur, imgflip.
  • Removed the “close button” for the search bar and replaced it with a “tap outside to cancel” feature.

Plus, made a short promo video for the App Store. Had a lot of fun making it.

Hope you guys like it - https://streamable.com/zzyjyo

Feature Request Autotranslate feature?

Upvotes

Hi, I assume this would be a massive project and probably well beyond the scope of what your extension can do and/or what you’d be willing to put in the work to do, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to mention it.

Recently Reddit appears to have added an autotranslate feature to their app. As a result I am now seeing dozens, if not hundreds of comments every day that show up on my old.reddit in their native non-English language. I don’t suppose there would be any chance of adding a similar feature to your extension? I do completely understand if it’s impossible/too much work, but it never hurts to ask.

"View in New Reddit" button sometimes hard to access

Upvotes

Depending on style of subreddit, the button that opens the menu to switch to New Reddit can be hard to see or obscured by other elements (see /r/onguardforthee/ and /r/Excel). Is there a solution for this, other than going to other page and navigate back?

Other Integration with RES

Upvotes

Hello,

First of all let me tell you that this extension app is the best that has ever been made.. old reddit is so awesome also.. Thanks again

Question is how well does RES integrate with yesterdayForOldReddit for example. I've put both extensions together and everything is working except the parent / skip / back buttons for some reason they have disappeared. That is the only thing i have a complaint about..

I don't even know but just wondering if i'm doing something wrong. When i take off RES everything is back to normal.

Is it a RES issue ?

Thanks
