After a few years of trying smaller varieties and never getting a ripe one, I figured I would try again. I lost the first big one this season to splitting open after a big storm. This one was ugly, and misshapen with some scarring on the rind but it turned out beautifully!!

This keeps happening to I assumed it was an animal but that doesn’t explain the ones totally covered with mesh. Any ideas?

It finally happened… my baby picked an immature habanero pepper from one of the pots I keep closer to the house and my son opened it, got it all over his hands and proceeded to touch every single sensitive part of his body (and I do mean every single one). That child screamed on and off for a half hour. He was shaking, salivating, red all over…

anyways y’all let my story of parenting ineptitude serve as a cautionary tale. If you’re growing spicy-booty peppers, don’t forget to keep them in a place little people can’t get to them. I’m sure you all are smarter than I am. I forget capsaicin is literally used as a deterrent for bears and people. I need to find a new place for my plants.

I noticed seeds forming on my dill plant. How do you know when they are ready to take off the plant to save for next year?

I was mowing my lawn and when I got up to the brush in our backyard, I noticed something red and familiar growing in among all the shrubery - cherry tomatoes! I had a plant in a moveable planter on my deck, but it didn't last long. I'm assuming some kind of animal saw them, had a snack, then spread the seeds because they're kind of everywhere. I'd love for them to make it through the season so I can pluck some every once in a while, but how do I maintain them as I'm ripping out the rest of this brush and possibly applying weedkiller? Are they worth saving? Is there a way to pull them and put them in a planter? 🥹 Any advice is appreciated!!

Two of the more successful and not split beefsteak tomatoes I harvested today. Growing big beefsteaks in the PNW is tough! Might go for some early girls next year.

Grabbed a $6 tackle box at Walmart, fits standard packs way better than the little tin I had. Some of my Burpee packets still don't fit. Not sure why. I was using Organo seeds this year, unrelated. Haven't tried binder sleeves, scared of spills. What's actually working for you all?

Hello! I am a first time veggie gardener , I have 225L bed with compost and potting mix layers , I’m honestly going for a trial and error approach but still trying to keep things separated a bit to let them grow , my other flower bed was too crowded,
Currently have a tomato plant then next to it some sugar snap peas , then a small strip of carrots, then some lettuces. Will they still grow the cos lettuces if closer together than 30cm? Have I overdone it ? Idek

First time having hornworms. RIP to my pepper plants. Honestly not even mad I’ve had more peppers this year than any other year #humblebrag. I’ve read that marigolds and basil protect plants from hornworms. Any other methods that have worked for people?

Left town for a week and trusted my neighbor to keep my garden alive and harvest the okra so the plants would keep producing.

I got back to bone-dry, dead plants and okra pods so massive they literally bent the stalks to the ground. When I talked to the neighbor, they insisted with a straight face that they "watered and harvested."

I ended up just paying them the money I promised because they are my neighbor and I didn't want to start an ongoing neighborhood war. But I am absolutely heartbroken over months of work ruined in 7 days. Consider this a warning to get a garden camera or hire a professional!

Wanted to shape them out like Florida and maybe take a picture and print it out and frame it. But I realized that would take longer than I have atm so the heart will have to suffice lol

That was about 8 lb of peppers and my plants are still going strong. Been a good year.

From spending the time growing and caring for everything, then harvesting it and creating other things with it is SUCH a good feeling. Pictured is tomatoes ready to be roasted for sauce and fridge pickles. Next week I'll actually can some.

Used a three 15 gallon fabric bag. Built a soil specifically for potatoes. I had 3 in first bag, 4 in the second bag and 5 in the third bag (was experimenting on yields.

Turned out each plant gave me one potato . Not even a big one at that haha.

What did I do wrong ?

I haven’t popped in this sub in a while. The weather this year has been…rough and made tending not as fun as last year for me.

That being said I did still manage to snap a few pictures of harvests I was proud of! Scroll to the end for a massive cucumber I somehow missed that’s way past its prime. It weighed in at 16.7 ounces!!

Good morning all! Hoping for some helpful tips here ..

So I built a garden this spring, and in the interest of saving time and a little money (lol) I built some trellises out of one of those amazon pole and connector kits and some nylon netting. Needless to say they did not survive summer storms and are leaning on my plants now / my tomatoes have fallen over but are ground crawling and producing like the feral monsters they are.

Anyway, obviously I’m going to need to do a more sturdy take two this fall / next spring

Current plan is some 4 foot chicken wire and 5 foot garden stakes either metal or bamboo.

Has anyone else built trellises / had any brilliant plans that worked out that they’d like to share? Trying to assess my options

Does anyone know what sort of grub is killing my plant leaves? Also any advice on how I could stop whatever it is? -New Jersey
