I played through Undertale and only just finished Deltarune chapter 1 but oh my god…is there a world where Asgore is happy? Where he isn’t forced into a trolley problem and then left behind to wallow in his own guilt without anything as much as a genuine friendship?
In Undertale he’s so depressed that the ‘strongest’ monster of the underground is slow, weak and able to be taken down with only a bit of effort (in my opinion)
All from him being forced into less than ideal circumstances and wanting to free his people so used the souls of the children to build to that goal and no taking a soul to cross the barrier to get more souls is a even WORSE morally since then it’s far more intentional and would lead to when monsters when they did escape having a horrific end since all of humanity would see them as barbaric since if even their king is going out and slaughtering people. Atleast AT LEAST with people falling in they would be just a victim of circumstance. As natural as it could be. A trolly problem of freeing monsterkind or sparing the fallen ones. Asgore only ever wanted to keep the flames of hope burning. To free his people. In a place where you are literally trapped with one barbaric solution you will have to resort to that solution or die in the dark to be forgotten.
The choice for that problem making himself feel that guilt without NO support other than his subjects. Not actual friendships made. No Toriel. No children since don’t forget Chara and Asriel are both dead. Having the duty to then murder fallen children and haunted with those actions and the resemblances to his own children? I am so sorry Asgore.
And in deltarune? I enter his shop and he’s alone and it’s dreary and his only company is the flowers. Alpyhs thinks he’s hitting on her, he’s divorced with no custody.
PLEASE TOBY! PLEASE LET ASGORE BE HAPPY! I BEG OF YOU!
