this is becoming increasingly common in my industry and it's really either going to lead to a lot of unnecessary legal issues for the companies hiring these managers or a lot of backlash from people they try to take advantage of
english is the official language used by 99% of corporate india (and any other sector that dosent deal with rural people, and even then, its a combo of english and the local language)
India has 22 different languages officially and a lot more regional dialects and less known languages. Imagine you cross a state border and they speak a completely different language.
That can still bite them in the ass. Salary means you get paid regardless of the hours worked; sometimes you work more, other times less. By nickel and diming people on their structured lunch, you open yourself up to misclassification suits and might end up owing backpay for all your salaried workers because they're really hourly.
Edit: don't get me wrong though, misclassification suits are hard to win
had a former plant manager try to tell me and my employees were working for free because someone missed a defect on a part. told my direct manager that was absolutely not happening and if he wanted to fire me for it my first call would be the labor board and my second call a lawyer.
I was 3rd shift and the plant manager was on 1st for context. the next morning my plant manager was literally screaming about how dare I threaten to call someone outside the plant and if I had a problem to come to him when he was the one who gave the order.
I also had my phone recording in my pocket when I went to "confirm" that I had understood the order correctly. they ended up backing down read quick. I sure as hell was not telling my minimum employees they were working for free when we were already doing 12-14 hours shifts. fuck that.
ended up quitting that job when they hired the person back to be my boss who had literally been fired for sexually harassing me. he was replacing my former boss who was on prison work release for sleeping with his 14 year old step daughter when he was near 50.
..... yes they do. They are the second largest English speaking country in the world, and seeing how Americans cannot even speak and write English correctly (could "of" and pay ed), then yeah, they are actually better in it
