News Protect Our Neighbors - Press Conference Sept. 8

Post image
Upvotes

This August saw the highest number of immigration arrests on record at 50,925, surpassing the previous record of 50,208 set in July. More than 65,000 people are currently being held in ICE detention. In the first eighteen months of Trump’s presidency, ICE detention in Monroe County increased by 1,500 percent. Most of those detained have no prior criminal record, and we know all too well of the hardworking and caring friends and family members who are missing.

Meanwhile, the federal government is building a detention center in our own backyard, and despite community concerns our County Legislature just approved grant funding that requires coordination with Customs and Border Protection (CBP). We need reassurance that our neighbors are being protected.

On Tuesday, September 8 @ 5:00pm, join ROC DSA and allies at the County Building [39 W. Main St.] to kick off the "Protect Our Neighbors" campaign. We're urging the County Legislature to pass legislation that will ban local law enforcement from coordinating with ICE, and to divest from companies involved in the construction and operation of immigrant detention centers.

Come show your support!

Also, consider speaking at the Public Forum following the conference at 6:00pm. Please call [(585) 753-1950](tel:5857531950) to register to speak for public hearing(s) and public forum by 1:00pm on September 8.

We encourage our community to give voice to those too vulnerable to speak out. And we encourage our legislators to remember that they represent all county residents, and have a duty to use their privileged position for our protection.

In solidarity,
ROC DSA

As a member of a local union, I took part in the Labor Day parade downtown. It was a beautiful day, it was a great turnout, a lot of smiling faces and a lot of waving.

Here are some photos of the people who both attended and or stood in solidarity of American workers. And some photos of our wonderful City.

Since 1882, people have come together to honor the achievements and contributions of American workers. [1]

Recommendation Alternative Option Bridal shop?

Upvotes

Me and my Fiancé are getting married in early november. It’s kind of a rushed wedding because I need my grandmother to walk me down the isle and we also just want to hurry up and do it. We’re having a dark whimsical style wedding outside in a forest and I am looking for an alternative style wedding dress. I would be okay with a something like a cream colored base with dark accents but i do want something just completely dark. Our budget is 200-500 and I’d also like to buy it if i can, not sure if that would be more expensive then a rental. Also looking for a place for my fiance. I want him to match my dress

Upvotes

I'd love to host community meetups at a LGS someday but not sure if there's an audience for that here?

Also just looking for friends in general, I'm 29 and moved here a year ago. if you like boardgames or neopets-adjacent hobbies (v pets/tamagotchis, digimon, furby customization etc) hit me up! Also open to friends who don't like any of those things, tbh my best platonic chemistry have been with peeps i have nothing in common with except good vibes lol

Help Does anyone know a quick way to get rid of Furniture/ Sofas?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi Guys!

So im seeking some websites or apps beyond FB Marketplace to get rid of some furniture quickly.

I recently spent some time in the Hospital for a serious medical condition. Due to my status I cannot return to my apartment and have to stay with family.

Because im currently out of work and dont know when ill be able to return, I want to try and sell some of my furniture and tables. This will help empty out my apartment and give me some money to live on.

The Table with chairs, Sofas and Couch are barley used. Ivd only had them for a few months.

Ive posted on the Marketplace and Craigslist but no luck so far. Anyone have any alternative apps or local shops that would buy the furniture off my hands?

Discussion veo electric scooters

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I tried out one of the veo e-scooters today for some fun. I practiced in an empty parking lot and then drove around east/park ave. I am well aware of the rules of the road as my main form of transportation is driving my car.

I was under the impression that bikers/e-scooters have the same right to the road as cars. I tried to stay as close to the side of the road as possible but we all know there are gutters/manholes all around which are of course to be avoided, especially for a new rider.

However, within the span of 10 minutes I was honked at by two separate cars and even yelled at by another driver to “MOVE!” As a driver myself I would never consider yelling at someone, and I certainly would not honk unless I was sure someone did not see me coming. Then again… I don’t tailgate bikes or e-scooters, I always give them space. I don’t want be the one that “hits” someone even if it isn’t my fault.

I tried to be a safe scooter-rider but I feel like maybe I could be wrong about sharing the road. It just isn’t always easy to just move over on two wheels when a car is coming at me at 40mph.

Thoughts? What can I do better while riding (if I ever do it again lol)

edit: I am riding with traffic, not against it!

Anyone been to this place? It's where the old red lobster was. I feel like the various Asian cuisines are pretty strong already in roc, is this place even worth trying?

Other Roc City Movers is hiring: $20–$25/hr + tips, flexible gig work available

Upvotes

Hello everyone! We're looking to add a few people to our team at Roc City Movers. We have had a lot of customers come from this sub, so we're hoping to have similar success with potential enployees. We're currently hiring for two different positions.

Experienced Mover / Box Truck Driver

This is a part-time position paying $22 to $25/hr plus tips. We're specifically looking for someone with at least 2 years of verifiable W-2 experience working for a licensed NY moving company.

You should have experience driving 15' to 26' box trucks and be comfortable with proper furniture wrapping, loading, securing, and handling. Valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.

We're also offering up to a $750 hiring bonus for someone who meets the experience requirements. $250 sign-on bonus plus another $500 after 60 days.

Flexible / Gig Movers

We're also looking for people who want to pick up moving jobs on a flexible basis. When we have work available, we'll reach out and you can choose whether or not you want to take the job. There's no obligation to accept every job, so this could work well as a side gig or around another job.

Starting pay is $20/hr plus tips. There's potential to earn more if you're able to safely drive box trucks.

No professional moving experience is required for this role. We're mainly looking for people who are reliable, physically capable, work well with a crew, and will treat customers and their belongings with respect.

Both positions also have opportunities to earn additional bonuses for 5-star customer reviews.

Most of our work is residential moving throughout Rochester and the surrounding area. The work is obviously physical, but we put a big emphasis on doing things properly, including wrapping furniture, protecting customers' homes, and being professional while we're there.

If you're interested in either position, send me a message with which role you're interested in, your work experience, and whether you have any experience driving box trucks. You can also apply on our website.

Recommendation Gutter REPAIR (not cleaning, not replacement)

Upvotes

Looking for a custom gutter repair on a small part of my house. Thought I had somebody coming to look at it, but he's gone 'radio silence', so I guess my job isn't big enough for him to consider right now; or any of the known gutter companies like MIG. Personally, I don't want to use MIG anyway, because they put this thing in that has never been able to handle the flow on storms like we had last week.

what I have is an inside-corner that is roughly 11' x 6', and better than 1/3 of all the runoff comes down this valley and into this gutter. It is a standard 5"x4.5" gutter, with a common 2"x3" square downspout which can NOT handle the heavy storm flow.

What I need is a 6"x6" 'commercial' gutter with a 'commercial' outflow neck into a 'commercial' 3"x4" downspout. Probably 1 afternoon of work; plus I have another gutter downspout I'd also like to re-route, but that's something I can do myself if nobody wants the work for that.

I'm finding nobody returns my calls at all, except for the FOUR SEPARATE websites with local names that all go to the Leaf Filter national call center!

I'd call a 'generic handyman', except I'd bet he would only put the same stuff up I currently have. Who can I call? I'm on the east side, and I will pay CASH. But I need this fixed, and in the way I'm describing it, too...

Discussion Patriot Front banners over I-90. Rip and tear them.

Upvotes

Route 21 South and Hook Rd over 90 out by Manchester have patriot front neo Nazi banners up. Please take them down, bonus points if you fuck them up and post pics. Saw them as I was driving by but missed the exit.

the back side is blank so you could rehang it somewhere and put “punch your local Nazi”

Edit: looks like they’re down now
