FORE SALE!!!

Upvotes

Not really….Have recently received more people asking to advertise/sell stuff on here. There’s plenty of avenues/subreddits/FB marketplace to offload golf equipment & other golf related items….

Sooo here’s the deal; If you want to sell something or advertise you must first make a donation to the First Tee of the Triangle. Then send one of the mods (Me/Craig) a screenshot/copy of said donation prior to getting approved to post.

$20 donation minimum for personal items & $100 minimum for businesses(may change, but as of now this is the deal)…This is per post made…

New Auto-mod Post/Comment Rules for the Sub

Upvotes

Hello all! Due to recent topics and a sever uptick in people generating alternate accounts to join conversations.

Historically, all moderation has been done manually, and aside from some spam posts, there hasn't been much needed in here. But in an effort to keep this subreddit enjoyable, help reduce spam, and keep the conversations respectful, I have instituted an Auto-Mod and programed a rule:

To comment and/or post in this community, a reddit account must be of a certain age, and have a minimum number of comment karma.

  • If you have been a comment be deleted with an auto-mod tag, that is related to this rule.
  • I am still experimenting with the exact number of Karma and days of age for account to find a balance.
  • I may also see what other auto-mod functions are available that may fit the community.
  • In just 24 hours, this has already stopped multiple spam posts and people who have made new accounts to instigate in topics.

Course recommendations?

Upvotes

Hello all,

Buddy and I are coming from the Aiken SC/Richmond VA area on the 19th to play Tot hill. We're trying to find a second course to play the next day, sub a hundred bucks (with some wiggle room) and within about an hour east or south of Tot hill. Any recommendations would be extremely helpful! Thanks!!

Country Club Hitchhiker

Upvotes

Has anybody seen the scratch golfer in Utah “hitchhiking” his way onto country clubs throughout Utah? https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbyG43rBkFJ/?stkn=YXN0NnNjZHdoYTd1

What are your thoughts?

I absolutely love the idea & seeing the dichotomy of how clubs react. Makes me think of how they would around here (assuming CCC would call the cops).
Has anyone ever heard of someone doing this? I’d personally never be able to, but it’s always been a dream of mine to play the Raleigh Country Club but I don’t know any members. You for sure would never catch me with a sign outside though

Looking for folks to play a round with

Upvotes

Hi all, I recently moved back to the Durham area and was hoping to find some people to play with. I usually shoot around 90. Not great, not horrible, definitely not consistent, but looking to play some this fall.

Bars/Restaurants Pinehurst/Southern Pines

Upvotes

Hey RDUGolf, heading to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area to play for a week with a group of fellow de-gens. Looking for suggestions for restaurants and some good bars/spots to hit later at night to relive our misspent youth.

Was hoping you all could enlighten me on the area. Thanks for your input!

Easy courses with long par 5

Upvotes

I’m planning on doing a ceremonial golf round for my late father on his birthday. Dude always took a shot of tequila on the longest par 5 of the course. What course is easy (I really suck at the game) but has a long par 5 for me to pour out a shot on the tee box?

The Neuse / Golf Trip

Upvotes

Anyone play here recently? Haven’t had the chance to play the Neuse yet, but my dad is coming into town next week for a golf trip and we were thinking of checking it out on Wednesday afternoon. For reference, we are then playing Bryan Parks Players and Champions courses on Thursday in Greensboro, before Tot hill and Pinehurst No. 1 on Friday.

Is the Neuse a good course to add to this itinerary or should we be looking elsewhere for a similarly priced track? Also, the course needs to be relatively close to RDU as his flight lands at 1:30.

I appreciate any thoughts/suggestions! Thanks!

Far North Myrtle Suggestions

Upvotes

Coming to Carolina beach area and willing to drive an hour or so for the best course I can play. Right now the list is Rivers Edge, Thistle, or Big Cats (Leopards Chase). Wondering what course within an hour or so of Wilmington will be in the best condition?

Thanks RDU

Hillandale

Upvotes

Absolutely not for the people, absolutely not for the golfer, totally anti community. Why are we shutting shit down at 6 (short range) and 6:30 (driving range)? It is still daylight at 7. People aren’t off of work until 5 or 5:30 or whatever, freaking travel out there with traffic… no idea what we are doing here??? I also have no clue why I give them an opportunity at all. How can the working man get better on a week day?

Finley or Poole

Upvotes

Passing through town this weekend and have always been intrigued by the university courses. Last year I played Duke and loved it and looking to check off Finley or Poole this time. For a similar price point, which would be recommended based on preference, conditions, etc? Thanks in advance!

General Question Lady golfers where are you!!

Upvotes

Does anyone have any golf groups in the Raleigh/Durham area that they’d recommend?

I’ve tried a local women's golf group that was recommended to me (CarolinaForHer), and while they have plenty of events, I attended a bunch and they weren't run very smoothly and I'm not sure I want to try again. Idk if they're working out the kinks, but every event I’ve attended has involved a lot of chasing down communication. The pricing and programs also change frequently enough that I've noticed, and I've switched to a pga coach and pay less and get more out of it compared to their lesson structure, so I'm kind of just looking for something new and more stable entirely.

I’m really just looking golf friends to play golf with and network. "Network" = grabbing food/drinks after a round and yapping. Ideally, I’d also love a group where I can just send a message asking if people want to play a round and set that up.

Thanks in advance!

I’m still a high handicap. Hit thin the fat then dig in. I am all over the world with clubs. I think I like the new Ping G740 super game improvement iron. Where should I go try them out and get fit. Is it still to soon. Been at this now 18 months. Help

Worth playing Duke University Golf Course?

Upvotes

Traveling to NC this week and scheduled a tee time at Duke University GC. Tee time and cart is ~$200, baggage fee on flight is $90 and uber from DT Raleigh to course is another $90. Question is, is Duke GC worth the ~$400? Thank you!

Edit: Okay, looks like its NOT worth it 😂 Debating playing 36. Any courses near downtown you all recommend?

Going on a bachelor trip to Myrtle and planning to play 36 next Saturday. We want to put together some sort of team competition, but we’re having trouble coming up with something for 10 guys spread across three tee times. Any suggestions?

General Question Mats on grass range question

Upvotes

I've noticed some courses such as Lonnie Poole, Lochmere, and TriGolf have a beautiful section of grass right ahead of the mats that golfers hit off of year round. Why is that? It almost seems like they planned for a grass range/mats combo, and just kept players on mats for whatever reason. I'm sure there is a more logical explanation for why this is the case, so just curious if anyone has insight?

Course Review Legacy vs Longleaf?

Upvotes

Trying to take my dad for a birthday round this weekend. We’ve never been to either. Anyone played these recently? For reference he plays weekly about a 15 handicap. I’m happy breaking 100.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: played Hyland 8/23. The course was in great shape! A couple of greens had been aerated and slower but overall immaculate. Extremely forgiving course, wide open and maximized for fun. My dad and I had a great time and we’ll checkout another more challenging course in the future. Thanks to all the comments!
