Gift basket for hosts

Upvotes

We stayed with our cousins for about a week and we’d like to show them our appreciation via a thank you food gift basket. What range for the gift basket would be appropriate? We were thinking about 100$? And any ideas where we could get a good gift basket from? They live in CA.

Would you send a song instead of a car this year?

Upvotes

My extended family does a big gift exchange every December and I've been the one stuck figuring out what to get my grandfather for years now since he genuinely doesn't need anything material at this point. Been considering whether I'd send a song instead of the usual card and gift combo, something built around a specific story from his life instead of a generic holiday card. Not sure if this reads as a nice gesture or an odd one to introduce into a fairly traditional family gift exchange.

unique 1st anniversary gift for my boyfriend, first time doing this

Upvotes

This is my first serious relationship and our one year anniversary is coming up in a couple weeks. I have no real reference point for what an appropriate gift looks like at this stage, everything online seems aimed at either very casual dating or decades long marriages with nothing really in between. He mentioned early on that he liked how I remembered small details about him, so I'm leaning toward something built around that instead of a generic first anniversary gift, just not sure what that actually looks like in practice.

• What's the best company gift you've ever received?

Upvotes

We've all had the naff ones — the mug that says "Employee of the Month" in the wrong font, the branded stress ball that lasted a day. But every now and then a company actually nails it.

Mine was a proper insulated flask from a place I did a bit of freelance for years ago. Nothing flashy, no giant logo plastered across it, just genuinely good and something I still use every single day. It quietly won me over more than any bonus would have.

So what's the best one you've had? Could be from an employer, a client, a conference goody bag — anything that made you think "oh, that's actually really nice." And the opposite is fair game too: what's the worst, most baffling thing you've ever been handed?

Is my gift idea sweet or too sad?

Upvotes

So my friend and I will be going to university soon, she leaves next week. I’m meeting up with her one last time that week, the day after I see her she’ll be putting her 3rd cat down, then going to university soon 2 days later. I’ve been thinking of gift ideas and I remembered she has the ashes of one cat in her room, so I thought maybe I’ll give her a locket, where she can put the ashes of all 3 cats into to take with her to uni so they aren’t apart. My plan is to write a note explaining that and to tell her to read it and open the gift at home to avoid upsetting her. I’m just worried this might be insensitive or smth? Like maybe being reminded of her lost cats might upset her, so I just wanted to ask what people think, is this sweet or a bad upsetting gift?

Edit: first of all thank you sm for all the responses! Here’s an update and some extra info. First of all yes, my best friend is sentimental, in primary school she’d keep a photo of her dad with her because she only saw him every 2 weeks, she’s a sensitive person in that regard and her cats mean the world to her. Also her uni is 4 hours away from home, so she will completely be away from her cat and any sentiment of her other cats (like the urn in her room)

After some thinking I think I will give her a locket with a photo of each cat, that way her 4th cat can also be included unlike if I did ashes. I’ve found a locket with 4 spaces so I think I’ll ask her for a photo of each cat and add it into the locket before I give it to her! My main concern is just timing, I’ll be giving her the gift the day before she puts her 3rd cat down, but idk if I can do it any other way. If I do it the day after she might be too upset, and then she’s off to uni so I can’t give it to her then. I think I’ll just do it on the day I say goodbye to her for uni, I might visit her right before she leaves but she may be too upset to want to see people which is understandable so in case I don’t see her I’ll be giving it the day before she puts her cat down. So my main concern is that being too upsetting for her

Publish present?

Upvotes

My wife is the author and I’m helping with everything else; listing, cover design, etc. of her first book.

Did anyone else give or receive a publish present? Kind of like a push present for a baby 😂

I have a couple of ideas I’m going to do to celebrate but wondering if this is a thing or not?

What should I gift my fiancée before our wedding? Budget- ₹6k

Upvotes

As the title suggests, I’m getting married in a week, and I want to give my fiancee something special as a wedding gift.

My budget is around - ₹6,000.

A couple of things i have already ruled out:

-> She already has jewels, so I don’t think another piece would feel very special.

-> I’ve already given her photo frames/photo-related gifts, so I’d like to avoid those as well.

I am looking for something thoughtful and meaningful and doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. Something she can keep for a long time or something that would remind her of this phase of our lives would be great.

Would love to hear what you guys have gifted your partners or what you think would make a good wedding gift within this budget.

Please drop your suggestions! 🙏

Please Help Settle a Debate: Gift or Money?

Upvotes

Hey all, what do you prefer to receive as a gift: some actual gift or money?

Personally, if there is something I'd really like I'll let my wife know exactly what it is. Otherwise I'd just prefer a gift cards.

I can see both sides, but I'm curious what the group feels.

I think the best gifts are usually connected to a small detail

Upvotes

The gifts I've remembered most weren't necessarily expensive. Usually the person remembered something small that I had mentioned once or noticed something about me that I didn't realize they were paying attention to.

That's probably why gift shopping can be so difficult. You're not really trying to find the most impressive object. You're trying to find something that makes sense specifically for that person.

Even something simple can feel surprisingly meaningful when the person clearly had a reason for choosing it.
