Native PSA: The new Crimson Desert DLC is currently NOT planned for Mac release. If you care about this game, please considerimg govimg the devs feedback here or in social media channels

Charting the Unknown is currently not planned for Mac release, despite a great Mac port for the base game being available at launch. This is the statement from the developers: Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown will not be available on Mac App Store at launch.
Should the content be planned for release on Mac in the future, we will provide a separate announcement with further details.

In other words, a Mac release is not completely ruled out, but the way I read they will not commit to it either.

Mac gamers investing so much time in a game like this and then being left out of a big paid DLC feels bad. I feel like this case has a big symbolic importance to for Mac as a gaming platform, so please, if you care about this at all, consider leaving the devs your thoughts on the matter.

CrossOver Running GTA 5 Enhanced with Maximum ray tracing on M5 Pro. I spent an entire weekend simply taking notes and optimising it for the best visual fidelity and consistent gameplay experience. Game Mode support coming later, AMA.

This is GTA 5 Enhanced with Crossover 27 Preview and Epic Games Launcher. I can help you out with further research and optimisation on your machine and we can simply publish a list of the optimal settings for each config. I've already been testing out Game Mode support for Crossover games and I intend to open source that as well. It helps reduce the wireless controller and audio latency even further. GPTK4 and Metal4 are truly spectacular.

Rosetta Star Wars The Force Unleashed Rosetta-based Port Progress

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Some of you guys might have seen my earlier posts here porting 32 bit games such as Portal 2 to Apple Silicon by tricking Rosetta into running it and adding compatibility shims. I thought I’d try the same approach on Star Wars The Force Unleashed.

This is still WIP, as you can see from the video there is many audio / stuttering problems and shader bugs but I just thought it’s cool that we can get this far.

Edit: Oh yeah, also I added in non-Xbox 360 controller support in this port. I am playing with a Dualshock controller in this video.

Rosetta Can someone please guide me?

Upvotes

I recently saw "Doom Raytraced" and would like to play it on my Mac. I have both an M4 Pro MBP and a M4 Max Studio. What would I need to do to get this to run on my machines? I know that they are plenty powerful enough and I know that Macs do not have Vulkan, so is there a way? Thank you so much for any help.

CrossOver Just want to confirm Crossover functionality before update to macOS 27 in a few weeks.

Upvotes

If I understand correctly Rosetta 2 is still available for games, so I want to confirm that includes Crossover itself?

I see Codeweavers have made great progress with their ARM64 build but it‘s not yet completed. Is the idea at this stage that Crossover will continue working in macOS 27 with Rosetta 2 - then in time when the ARM64 build is completed (including D3D Metal / Direct3D 12 support) Crossover will simply run natively without Rosetta?

Discussion Mac gaming setup for 12 yo son

Upvotes

Hi all,

My son wants to upgrade his gaming setup. Currently running a pc laptop where he mostly is on Roblox, Minecraft, but plays Fortnite through Xbox gaming online or steam.

He really likes the PC look (big box with exposed fans and lights), but also really likes my setup (iMac, MacBook Pro, etc continuity).

I know you can play Fortnite (and most future games he might be interested in) on a Mac using Xbox gaming. But I’m unsure if a Mac mini is overkill, if a MacBook Air is enough, or if a MacBook Pro is perfect or overkill.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Apple Silicon "GPT-6 Astra just got Age of Empires IV running at 70-150 fps on Apple Silicon. CrossOver was doing ~8 fps and freezing constantly. now: max settings, big fights, online, stable. I genuinely did not think this game was going to run like this on a Mac"

Native I just released Valley Rangers, a free exploration game for Mac and iOS

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm the developer of Valley Rangers, which has just launched on Mac and iOS. It's a native Mac game where you play as a little robot Ranger and explore generated valleys at your own pace.

You can wander through four different biomes, pet the wildlife, take postcard photos and record discoveries in your journal. There are little places to find off the trails, changing weather, and plenty of ways to customize your Ranger. You can play alone or explore with other players online.

It's free on the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/valley-rangers/id6802082322

I've attached a few screenshots from the Mac version. If you give it a try, I'd love to hear what you think — what you enjoyed, what felt confusing, or what you'd like more of. Feedback from people actually playing will help me decide where to take it next.

Self promotion I built a native Apple-silicon Mod manager for Resident Evil 4 on Mac — looking for feedback

Upvotes

Hi everyone — I’m the developer of Mac Mod Manager.

Resident Evil 4 has a native Apple-silicon version, but most of its Mod ecosystem was created for Windows. I built Mac Mod Manager to make compatible Mods easier to use on macOS without Terminal commands or manually rebuilding PAK files.

The app can:

- Import Mod archives by selecting or dragging them into the library

- Inspect and convert compatible PC Mod resources for the native Mac version

- Detect file conflicts before installation

- Organize optional components and multi-level Mod packages

- Build and apply managed PAK patches

- Uninstall Mods and restore a clean managed state

- Submit compatibility reports when a Mod needs more work

The current release focuses on Resident Evil 4 Remake. Support for RE2, RE3, Village and RE7 is planned, but those modules are not available yet.

A few important limitations:

- Apple silicon Macs only; Intel Macs are not supported

- A legitimate copy of the native Mac game is required

- Windows-only RE Framework plugins, DLL Mods, trainers and executable patches cannot run on macOS

- Compatibility varies because many Mods were made specifically for the PC game build

- The app does not include or redistribute game files or third-party Mods

There is a free Community Edition for trying the core workflow. Paid editions add batch importing, multiple simultaneous Mods, loadouts and advanced management. The RE4 Edition is US$9.99, and the early-supporter All Games V1 Edition is US$19.99.

I would really appreciate feedback from other Apple-silicon players. If you test it, please let me know your Mac model, macOS version, game version, the Mod you tried and whether it worked correctly.

Thanks — I’ll be around to answer technical questions and collect compatibility reports.

CrossOver Red Faction Guerilla FINALLY Works on Mac Through Crossover

Thumbnail
youtube.com
Upvotes

About darn time. :)

Red Faction Guerilla is one of those games that I've always had on local storage because of it's gameplay. Sure, graphics are now dated...but you can't put a time stamp on good gameplay. Pretty sure I originally purchase this (not the remake) back in 2011.

Game currently on sale at STEAM for $20 (Remake).
(There is a reason this 17 year old game is still $20. It's fun as all heck)

Steps below

MacOS Sequioa 15.7.9
Crossover 26.3 (a modded copy of Crossover with the DXMT folder edited)

By Modded... I did the following

(Did this to get Shadow of War working)
Make a copy of your Crossover app (right click...duplicate)
Then...right click on the duplicate (rename the duplicate whatever you like) and then choose "show package content"
Then CONTENTS/SharedSupport/Crossover/Lib/DXMT

You're going to replace the three folders of within DXMT
(Mind...I'm not sure this is why Red Faction now works without the sun glare on the faces that use to be the bug)

This is where you get those files
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1uT-9KwjTi_iOnix_IFIe26x34BUpCXy4

(I highly recommend saving this. It's a DMXT dev build .80)

After that...Shadow of War worked...and I assume that's why this now works. (Might be wrong...but the game now works regardless)

Help Has anyone managed to get Supremem Commander: Forged Alliance running on an Apple Silicon Mac?

Upvotes

It's one of my all time favorite games, and I'd love to run it on my MacBook - Crossover crashes on startup.

Thankfully, the game works on my Steam Deck, so getting it running on the Mac is just a nice to have thing!

Rosetta Dead Space 2 black screen on M3 MacBook Air

Upvotes

Hi! I’m trying to run Dead Space 2 on my MacBook Air M3 (8GB RAM).

I’m using the Steam version. Steam launches normally through Whisky/Porting Kit, but when I launch Dead Space 2, the game only shows a black screen and nothing happens.

Has anyone successfully gotten Dead Space 2 working on an M1/M2/M3/M4 Mac? If so, what setup and settings did you use?

Thanks!

CrossOver Peak mouse fix for Mac and bonus fix

Upvotes

Hi! I recently tried to play Peak with my friends and couldn't do it as I used to (using crossover).

I tried some fixes but none of them worked.

Then, I found a way to fix it while also getting a better performance than ever before, which also led me to be able to play "No rest for the wicked" with a better performance than what I was able to get with crossover..

I'm not sure there's somebody out there that wants to hear this so, if there is, please let me know so I decide to take the time and explain what worked for me.

Discussion Whats more important for Mac emulation - CPU or GPU?

Upvotes

Debating on replacing my 32GB M1 Max (24cu binned GPU) Mac Studio with either an M6 Mini or M5 Pro mini... Likely go with a 24GB RAM variant of either... the stretch to the binned M5 Max studio over the M5 Pro Mini is too much in Canadian pesos...

The M6 will have an edge in CPU, and the M5 Pro the GPU... Not sure how much of an upgrade (if any) the base M6 GPU will be over the M1 Max... it will be better for RT games, but thats not something I would likely turn on anyway.

I do have a few native games (BG3, Cyberpunk, Robocop) and much lighter indie games like STS2, Balatro, etc in steam but those arent all that graphically demanding... I do use crossover for games like RDR2 and the like but mostly stick to emulation (Dolphin, RPCS3, Retroarch)

Not strictly a mac question, but whats more important in emulation for Mac, CPU or GPU prowess (and/or RAM)? I do find the M1 Max struggles a little with RPCS3 but for everything else is OK.

Self promotion After four years developing HexLands, my roguelike deckbuilder city builder, I finally have a publisher!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Hi guys! I'm Tibor Udvari, and I've been working on HexLands for more than 4 years now. It's my roguelike deckbuilder, medieval city builder, which is heavily inspired by Slay the Spire. (and it's open for public playtesting by the way!)

Finally, now that I'm getting closer to the finish line and the pressure is increasing day by day, I was lucky enough to partner up with a publisher, so I can focus on the development itself ^^ Here's a quick description of my game:

HexLands is a roguelike deckbuilder with a unique twist: your cards don't cast spells; they raise farms, mills, and harbors across a chain of procedural hex islands.

  • Banished by a king, you’ll need to prove your worthiness by settling the chain of islands you were exiled to.
  • Where other deckbuilders hand you a battle, HexLands hands over a coastline. Each procedurally-generated island brings about its own problems, and you’ll need to look in your deck for the solution.
  • Some buildings only work on the right ground, and disasters will need to be prepared for and mitigated in advance, meaning each draw will need to be planned and strategised carefully.
  • Your cards, relics, and upgrades sail with you to every new island, so each builds towards the next. I can’t wait to take you on this voyage!

If I've got you interested, feel free to join the Discord server for a Playtest Steam Key! ^^ I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Anyway, have a nice week, cheers,

Tibor

Native Native Apple Silicon port for Vice City (reVC) — Metal, HDR, Game Mode & 1-Command Install

Post image
Upvotes

Hey r/macgaming,

I’ve put together a native macOS build of reVC (the reverse-engineered Vice City engine) built specifically for M1+ chip macs

Key Features:

  • Native ARM64 & Metal: Renders through Metal (via ANGLE) natively on M1+ chips. No Rosetta or deprecated OpenGL wrappers.
  • HDR Support: Built-in High Dynamic Range support for compatible Mac displays.
  • (NEW) MetalFX Upscaler: Run the game on any retina device
  • macOS Game Mode: It builds a real reVC.app, so macOS Game Mode turns on automatically while you play.
  • No-hassle setup: Use any version of the game that reVC already supports (Steam, Windows, etc)

UPDATE: I have fixed a few bugs and added MetalFX upscaler

You can find the instructions here:

https://github.com/coldcue/reVC/releases/tag/revc-metal-macos-arm64
