U.S. debt is even worse than it seems, and rising Treasury yields are now an ‘all-hands-on-deck situation,’ top economist warns.

The market for U.S. Treasuries has shown troubling signs lately, and rising yields are a clue that conditions are more dire than they appear, according to Robin Brooks, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

In a Substack post on Tuesday, he said U.S. policy is now focused on preventing long-term borrowing costs from shooting higher and pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's efforts to double debt buybacks as well as Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech that reassured markets on his inflation-fighting credibility.

Mistral raises €3 billion, at a valuation of €21 billion

Upvotes

Financial Times: Alongside manufacturing applications in sectors ranging from oil and gas to aerospace, Mensch said Mistral had seen growing demand for cyber security services, particularly from European banks, in the wake of the recent OpenAI incident in which its AI agents escaped testing systems and hacked software developer site Hugging Face.

My Opinion: Mistral, the French AI startup has raised €3 billion at a valuation of €21 billion. That will help it compete with China and USA, and in AI sovereignty for Europe. Especially compete with Chinese open source models, as a provider of open source AI. But Mistral is also selling a Chinese open AI model. So they are independent from USA. And its AI model will help European firms implement cyber security to defend itself from hacking from other AI models, like those from the US.
