Community Meta /r/DeusEx Community Thread - Q3 2026 + Guide for getting DX1 running on your PC.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the r/DeusEx community thread, Q3 of 2026!
We are now less than one year away from 2027, the year of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. As I previously stated in the Q1 thread, HR was the first main game I played in the series, it will always hold a special place in my heart since it helped me push through a low point in my life.
We are still waiting for any news about the future of the IP. There have not been any updates about Deus Ex Remastered since last year. Embracer Group seems to want to do something with the IP, but imho, it's all just buzz and words. We have been there before and burnt way too many times. Actions speak louder than words.

-------------
FAQ page and guide to getting Deus Ex 1 running on your PC
As we move onward, we would like to remind you that r/DeusEx has a FAQ page which we try to update with official and relevant information only related to Deus Ex as much as possible, we know some people are tired of the usual "which mod to use for DX1?" or "Will there be a new Deus Ex?" or similar threads. So please check the FAQ page before you do post, you may find what you seek.
If you're having trouble running DX1 on your PC, it is recommended to download Kentie's Launcher aka Deus Exe Launcher, which is an executable for Deus Ex 1, it fixes various technical issues related to running on modern computers/laptops, and also helps you tweak and configure the fov and cap the FPS.
You can also check out this spiffy Ultimate beginner's guide to Deus Ex if you're new to DX1, but if you are looking a better and quicker solution, you can skip the previously mentioned guide and try this Vanilla Fixer (by Die4Ever**)** which aims to help you run Deus Ex 1 correctly on modern computers without chaning anything else, which wroks on Linux and Steam Deck too!
Hope you all enjoy the summer. Remember to keep yourself hydrated and stay kind to each other out there.

DX1 I love these two homages! Which do you like more?
Deus Ex makes an homage toward Thief with the cathedral level, and another to System Shock with the under water naval lab (which also no doubt inspired Bioshock). I personally enjoy Thief more, but find the also more linear puzzle and key System Shock homage to be more enjoyable with its heavier atmosphere. Both also have awesome environmental storytelling…

DX:HR Director's Cut Any fix for the Motherly Ties quest being broken at the very end in HR?
The quest dialogue doesn't disappear (as in the first pic) when exhausting all the information that has been found out about the quest and Adam just stands there like an NPC without any way to get out of the dialogue screen and complete the quest.
All objectives are completed, every bit of information has been gotten that is required.
I saw some people recommend reloading a save from before the police station, which I am certainly not doing since I've done that like 4+ hours and multiple other side quests ago, or turning off DX11 in the options (which did nothing).
Reloading any previous save, be it a quick save or an auto save, does not work - the quest is incompletable even though everything is done.
Any fix?

DX1 What are your thoughts on the "Revision" mod? (for Deus Ex: GOTY)
I see a lot of talk that its is controversial but i dont really know why? besides the added music that i turn off anyway it seems like a good way to experience the game in a modernized way.

DX:MD Not many did this
An achievement which has a lower percentage than this would be looking for ebooks, the hardest difficulty and doing Breach but I play games to have fun not to be stressed.

DX:HR Director's Cut Have you ever felt sadness and a longing for a place you’ve never actually been to?
When I was playing "Human Revolution" for the second time, I didn't want to leave the apartment before the second visit to Hengsha. I sat there all evening, staring out the windows (I live in a big city, and there was a storm that night), thinking about how I had to set off on the mission, how I’d never come back here, and how I’d likely die at Panchaea I'm 41 and live in a big city. I can just sit in Adam's apartment all evening, reflecting on life and my choices. Damn, that game hits so hard...

DX Universe Real De Beers
I found out today that the De Beers Group was the largest diamond sales giant at the end of the 20th century. But they don't have any Lucius (at least officially)

Community Mod GMDX Augmented unusual item question
What's the point of the Pistol [Unatco Special Issue] that you find next to the corpse of the Unatco trooper near the entrance to the north dock?
The [Unatco Special Issue] text only shows when you drop the item and move your mouse over it out in the world - you don't even see it in the inventory. Otherwise, that pistol is completely identical to any other standard pistol in every metric - all the stats, mod capacity etc.
Is it supposed to be some sort of feelgood collectible and nothing more?

Discussion Theory: Adam Jensen is a clone in Human Revolution Spoiler
This topic on Adam Jensen being a clone in Mankind Divided has probably been milked to death but it's been ten years without a sequel lol
I'm assuming for the sake of this theory that the Adam Jensen body in the VersaLife vault isn't just an Easter egg or cut content, so I assume there are somehow two Adam Jensens.
So the clone theories I've seen all assume that the Adam we play as in Mankind Divided is a clone of the Adam from Human Revolution. But what if it's the other way around? So the Adam from HR was the clone, and the Adam we play as in MD is the original person he was cloned from?
We know from Human Revolution that Adam Jensen is the only surviving test subject of several from White Helix Labs, where he was experimented on with gene therapy that made his body unusually compatible with augmentation. The White Helix test subjects may all have been clones of the same naturally born child. That would make sense experimentally, with genetically identical subjects it would be much easier to compare different forms of gene therapy, while the original could act as a control subject and live a normal life.
This would explain why an 'Adam Jensen' clone existed decades before Panchaea, without requiring anyone to somehow create a fully grown replacement Jensen between HR and MD. This clone is the only surviving subject of the White Helix experiments, growing up to become the Adam Jensen we play as in HR, meanwhile the original is just some random guy living a normal life up until around this time.
Yes the Illuminati would still know who the original is, but without knowing what White Helix did to make HR Adam compatible with augmentation, he's useless to them, so there's no reason to interfere with his life...
...Until Adam Jensen resurfaces in HR, where Megan Reed discovers that his DNA contains the key to augmentation rejection, recovering the missing result of the White Helix experiments. Then Panchaea happens and Jensen's body is recovered. He could be dead, brain dead, in a coma, or kept in statis like Lucius DeBeers in the OG Deus Ex, whatever.
As for how they would copy Adam's memories and personality to the original person he was cloned from, in The Harvester questline in Mankind Divided we learn of the existence of technology that makes this possible.
Now the Illuminati now have Adam's body, Megan's research, the original person Adam was cloned from, and the technology needed to transfer Adam's memories and personality into him. Then just give him Adam's augmentations, maybe a few tweaks to his appearance like scars etc. and as far as he knows, he wakes up believing he is Adam Jensen.
So perhaps the Adam Jensen we play as in Mankind Divided isn't the clone, but is instead the original. I think it would've been a cool way of doing that twist. Also I love the possibility of the VersaLife vault Jensen being alive but in stasis, to allow for a future interaction or conflict between the two Jensens.
Curious what people think, and whether there's anything in the lore that outright rules this out. Also interested to hear people's thoughts on the whole clone theory in general and VersaLife vault stuff.
TL;DR: What if the Jensen from Human Revolution was actually a White Helix clone of a naturally born original, and after Panchaea the Illuminati used Megan Reed’s research plus memory transfer technology to turn that original into the Jensen we play as in Mankind Divided? That would mean MD Jensen isn’t the clone at all, HR Jensen is.
Discussion Has anyone watched Motor City from this year? I can't wait for Steve Jablossky's OST since it's full of vibes heavily influenced from Michael McCann and Deus Ex Human Revolution.
I am pretty sure most Deus Ex fans probably didn't watch the movie but for those who did, to add more context, I thought the 70s nostalgic movie was tedious due to less dialogue until I heard the soundtrack other than those 70s hits. I thought I might have heard of "what would have been" Icarus 3 near the end of the movie. I wasn't going to say 70s cyberpunk though it's close enough.

DX Universe Why doesn’t Adam Jensen like being a post-human?
I never understood this about cyberpunk/transhumanist science fiction
The character gets into a life altering or crippling accident, and is saved with cybernetics. Not only do they get their life saved, but they’re also given literal superhuman upgrades
I don’t remember how deep they went into Adam’s post human characteristics, but presumably he doesn’t have 95% of the biological limitations that a human is forced to live with
But… He somehow hates beings a post human because “I never asked for this”
Okay, maybe I’m just different. If you became a post-human and didn’t have to worry about biological limitations of being a human, would you suddenly hate it and your new body?

Discussion THE REAL REASON WHY DEUS EX WAS CANCELLED
Just beat Deus Ex: MD and I read that they cancelled the 3rd one because of the basic excuses like budget cuts, restructures etc. But I’m pretty sure everyone knows that it was cancelled cause it’s about the illuminati and the story was headed in the direction of you taking out the illuminati in the 3rd game lmao

DX:MD 3 weeks later, haven't recovered from [spoiler] Spoiler
The goddamned EARLY ENDING of MANKIND DIVIDED!
I played HR nonstop for 2 weeks before MD, and loved every second. No game has filled me with such a rush of urgency to continue the main quest. The plot twists were electrifying, and the boss battles seemed really decent (though it took me a while to figure out I could takedown by hitting Q).
MD had weird sound glitches from the start, I couldn't put my finger on it but I hard a hard time locating enemies. Eventually I realized that whenever a police robot was involved, something strange happened like a center channel was removed, close enemies sounded distant, and their guns made no sound. This made the start of Golem City, and later the lockdown on Prague, *really annoying.* I also had no sound for a few cutscenes, starting from the flight to Golem City.
I found there was a registry fix for NVIDIA cards, but I'm running an old AMD chip. Turning off audio enhancements fixed it for a few minutes, then it came back and I had no luck fixing it. Bit of an immersion killer.
Anyway, I was just learning to stop worrying and love the augmentations when I got to the Big Scary Terrorist Guy Boss Battle, hid around the corner, threw an EMP grenade when he came hunting, ran up and pressed Q. Perhaps I could have done this with all the bosses throughout the series, but yeah, these guys should be hardcoded to kick your ass whenever you try such a cheapshot. Oh yeah, and then the game just fucking ended.
Read on on the how and whys content was scrapped, production rushed and executives opted to stretch the story into multiple games that were canned for good.
I don't think I'll recover from the frustration of such a tremendous franchise getting bled dry by boring corporate greed. Love the frank quip from Elias that we'll never get another DeusEx because the owners are psychopaths.
I'm an aging millenial and not huge on gaming these days, so it takes a lot to get me so invested in a video game. I don't think there's any other game that could scratch the itch that DeusEx gave me. When HR ended, I stood up and applauded. When MD ended, I just sat there cursing.
RIP Adam Jenson
