Postgame Thread [Postgame Thread] Nevada Defeats WKU 49-14
•
u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 2d ago
Western Kentucky was FAVORED in this game. This was a 36.5 point spread difference from the result.
Also Western Michigan beat Michigan.
•
u/Cooked_Brisket USC Trojans • Pac-12 2d ago
WKU just couldn’t compete with a flagship university like Nevada
•
u/ajarvulnerability 2d ago
wow that spread shift is insane, 36.5 points off the mark is something else
•
u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 2d ago
Still can't beat UMass's 37-21 win over Rutgers as 29.5 point underdogs, a 45.5 point spread difference.

Wow this is one of the most surprising results this weekend
•
u/whatsssssssss Toledo Rockets • Michigan Wolverines 2d ago
I'm trying to hide from that right now man

Not trying to overreact, BUT WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK. GO PACK!
•

I’m sure there have been other good games here and there, but this feels like the first time in a long time that Nevada was so competent in all three phases of the game.
It’s been a tough era since the Norvell and Carson Strong departures

You guys absolutely dominated us last year, but it’s been a rough stretch outside of that.
Hoping Nevada finally bounces back this year (as long as it’s not on our expense lol).

Really, really good win for Nevada. This WKU team was basically neck and neck with Liberty to win the CUSA.
Speaking of, that conference might be worse than multiple FCS conferences.
•
u/Ok-Knee6347 UC Davis Aggies 2d ago
Liberty so bad man, people will find out last year wasn't a fluke and I'm not just saying this because I hate them, they are legitimately average in the cusa
•
u/PomfAndCircvmstance UNLV Rebels • Mountain West 2d ago
Speaking of, that conference might be worse than multiple FCS conferences.
North Dakota State would go undefeated against CUSA this season and I'd imagine several FCS teams could come in and win it year 1 as well. Literally just FCS+ at this point.
•
u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 1d ago
Despite WKU's recent history, something seems very wrong with them from this game. I would not be surprised to see a team like New Mexico State or Kennesaw State beat them easily and WKU take a huge step back this year.
•
u/Superbomb-122 WKU • Lindsey Wilson 1d ago
WKU has quietly only gotten worse in the last 4 years and the only reason the record doesn't immediately reflect that is because CUSA is not a legitimate FBS conference
•
u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 1d ago
I mean you guys played LSU and lost 13-10 last year. Say what you will about CUSA, but a lot of teams looked a lot worse vs LSU than you guys.
•
u/Need_more_flairs San José State • Harvard 2d ago
6 out of 10 Mountain West teams have a win so far.
2 out of 8 Pac12 teams have a win so far.
The MW, in fact, remains the best conference in the west. I will NOT factor in any other stats, scenarios, or results for the rest of the year.

Utah state losing by double digits at home to an FCS school was pretty nice to see

This is a surprising final score to say the least. Almost as surprising as Western Michigan beating Michigan 12-7
•
u/RockysDetail Nevada Wolf Pack • Army Black Knights 2d ago
Very happy for our guys! This is the first game in years (yes, years) in which Nevada has been able to put together a performance anywhere near this one. I hope this means Nevada will make an impact in the MW this season.

Welp, now I’ve got two reasons to drink tonight
•

Goddamn it this is gonna be a season where Nevada ruins Boise St’s season again huh?
Jk they don’t play :( RIP the old MW :(

I wish they find a way to get that game at least every other year again

This should be Helton's last season

But aren’t you pumped for another 7-5 season, no CUSA title and a bowl game somewhere sunny in December against a mid sun belt team
•
u/LuckyStax Nevada Wolf Pack • Oregon State Beavers 1d ago
Looks like we haven't lost a step from when OL coach Norcross first left in 2011
•
u/PROUDgrizHATER Montana State • Montana Tech 2d ago
Sooooo are we in trouble next week?
•
u/South_Lake_Taco Nevada Wolf Pack 2d ago
I don’t think so? Nevada has been abysmal for the last 4 years so it’s hard for me as a fan to get too excited. However, they looked really good tonight so if this is a sign the program has finally turned things around, it could mean trouble for the Bobcats.
However, Montana State is the defending national champs, so regardless, Nevada will have its hands full
•
u/R6_Ryan Nevada Wolf Pack 1d ago
Tbh this team looks different, we may make a bowl if they can keep this composure through some tighter affairs. The last few years, WKU probably would’ve been an ugly back and forth that we lose on a shanked kick or something to that effect.
•
u/South_Lake_Taco Nevada Wolf Pack 1d ago
Yeah, it feels like last year’s team would have lost like 24-1 in OT or something. They looked really crisp by comparison last night
•
u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 2d ago
I was feeling confident base on how we've looked and how they looked the past two years. After tonight, much less confident.

Everyone who picked Western Kentucky to be a CUSA contender this year purely for nostalgia reasons should have their journalism degrees/credentials revoked.
Wtf was that?
•
u/flyingtheflannel WKU Hilltoppers • Arizona State Sun Devils 1d ago
You mfers had one mild test this year also, and got the dog shit kicked out you by a teams first official FBS game. Our whole conference is bad this year

We lost to the single most decorated college football program of the last decade, y'all lost to fking NEVADA
Don't pretend our opponents are equal in any way.
•
u/Crunchymau5 Nevada Wolf Pack • Washington Huskies 2d ago
They have finished in the top 3 in C-USA the last couple years, so they've been a contender lately. They probably shouldn't be the favorite, but I wouldn't be surprised if they finished with a winning conference record.
