Would investigating and most likely firing that ref crew somehow be more work and money than gumming things up with litigation?

I'm not sure why they would go that route when acknowledging it and acting accordingly would cost way less and make the conference look much better.

Because that loss hurts the brand a shit ton. It fucks up advanced stats too, it could be the difference in an unrelated team making the playoff or not because Michigans worse ranking would hurt them in the computers.

Also, michigan losing this one game after it being determined that the refs fucked up is not anywhere near as harmful to the BIG's "brand" as them preventing any kind of resolution to what happened in this game with endless litigation.

I don't necessarily disagree in general, but in this instance, the conference isn't the entity who fucked up.

Firing those refs and overturning the result of this game would be one of the easiest pr wins ever.

Fighting any lawsuit would make everyone and everything look so much worse.

I feel like you're drastically overestimating how much conferences care about computer rankings.

Which, if you'll recall, isn't really a part of the criteria the people who decide who makes the playoff look at.

Most of it is decided for them, and the minimal impact a computer ranking might have is not big enough for a conference to want to try and do everything they can to stop any sort of legal proceedings stemming from this game.

The only thing that would work (in this instance) is if Michigan fans refused to show up for the next game.

The student section needs to be EMPTY.

The university needs to call a news conference to announce that they reject the outcome and are filing a petition to have the record changed.

Most schools have some version of Honor in their code of conduct. This falls under that.

This is not good for football in general.

The game WAS OVER. The final "play" should not count. It should be struck off as something that DID NOT OCCUR because the game was over.

But it won't be and we all know it.

The Michigan radio commentators said in the review that it was game, theres no way time gets added back. And radio commentators are always as homer as it gets.
