Commentators are questioning the addition of that second

u/Big_Watch4135 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago

Literally saying in the post game “our clock is in sync with the stadium clock and says 0:00. The Big Ten is gonna have to answer how this is possible”

u/Sorge74 Ohio State • Bowling Green 2d ago

Doesn't matter if it's fucking synced. 9 seconds is 9 fucking seconds. You can have a 9 second timer and I can have a 9-second timer and they'll reach the same fucking 9 seconds.

Yea I’m saying it’s bullshit. So did the commentators. Idk what you’re arguing lol.

u/Sorge74 Ohio State • Bowling Green 2d ago

I'm arguing that I don't even understand how a discrepancy is possible. Like I'm not arguing with you I just don't understand.

I need to understand how 9 seconds on 1 is not 9 seconds on another clock.

u/Extension_One_8045 2d ago

The answer is that there was no discrepancy. The B10 made the call during the review to make it 1 second, or the refs would be fired.

If their clock started a quarter second later and was still at 1 when the guy touched it. I’m not saying this is what happened, but this is what they’re saying. It looked to me like the clock started on the snap. Maybe their clock had a quarter second delay and started slightly after. We’ll see if there is an official explanation.

u/Sorge74 Ohio State • Bowling Green 2d ago

The clock was zero for about 2 seconds before it was touched. It wasn't a one second or not situation those lol

2 seconds of slow mo, not real time.

u/Sorge74 Ohio State • Bowling Green 2d ago

Feels like there has to be an official explanation with videos.

It would be pretty easy to rig that too though ha

u/Sorge74 Ohio State • Bowling Green 2d ago

Yeah but better than three sentences.

u/Commercial-Car-2252 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2d ago

Agreed, they’ll have to explain it, I’m just saying it would be easy for them to delay the clock a second with the video, it gives them plausible deniability which is what makes this so ridiculous and why they’ll get away with it.

The only thing I can think of is if one clock resets to 9.00 after every stoppage and the other doesn't. But why would that be a thing?

u/neontheta West Virginia Mountaineers 2d ago

It wouldn't. The ref always says "please put X on the game clock" when there's a difference. They don't just let them play, especially at the end of the game.

Well it would be where the supported the catcher and apparently ( I don’t agree) was a second while being out of bounds

u/Original_Bowl_8020 Penn State • Syracuse 2d ago

Fuck Michigan

u/RonMexico13 Florida Gators 2d ago

Brother that wouldve hit 0:00 if there was 10 fucking seconds on there

u/Due-Dirt-8428 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2d ago

They’re using hand stopwatches over there to track time 😂

u/Danster21 Montana State • Washington 2d ago

The refs are traveling at 86.6% the speed of light and their 9 seconds are actually 18 seconds

I think the only possible way it could be out of sync that could happen is if the camera in stadium is recording to a different frame rate than the broadcast is being shot out at. Like 60FPS vs 59.94FPS but even then the exact frame you could pause it on on the different frame rates would be different by a fraction of a second. That ball hit at like 2 seconds after zero on the clock, theres no explanataion other than fuck it just say theres a second left.

u/shyndy Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago

Actually you could have two stopwatches give different results. I’m not a scientist but they can get off over time- I work in pharmaceutical company and the watches we use for stuff like cleaning have to be regularly checked by the calibration department to prove their times are accurate enough

Their answer is gonna be the sound of a money counter going brrrrrr

u/motorcitydevil 2d ago

Sadly there's no appeal system in college football. They robbed those kids of a victory and should be ashamed.

Unfotunately the Big Ten doesn't HAVE to do jack. They SHOULD, but they won't unless the other schools rally around the Western Michigan cause and make demands. And aside from Michigan hate, there's no reason to do that.

u/Jellis314 1d ago

According to the B1G, they have a super special secret clock that they are not allowed to show us, and it had 1 second left!

u/aaronman4772 Louisville Cardinals 2d ago

Even Terry is questioning it!

u/MissionSalamander5 2d ago

Terry is the only former official who has enough courage to be like yep I don’t get it IMHO.

u/NormanQuacks345 Minnesota • North Dakota State 2d ago

Who isn’t?

u/dinkytown42069 Minnesota • Oklahoma 2d ago

commentators who, let's not forget, were at points pretty much cheering for Michigan.

u/Dead_Baby_Kicker Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago

Yup

There is only so much shit you can spin

u/SC_Fan_55 South Carolina Gamecocks 2d ago

As they god damned should!

u/Freaknasty815 1d ago

Everyone except pathetic Michigan fans aren't just questioning it, they're out right saying it was bullshit.

u/Jellis314 1d ago

Everyone is questioning the addition of that second.
