42 points in the 2nd quarter alone. Damn welcome to the Fun Belt Bulldogs!

42 points in a quarter is fucked

My wife and I got tickets to the inaugural Frisco Bowl a few years back when Tech played SMU. We ended up on the SMU side. Tech ran up the score so bad in the first half that it was a virtual ghost town in the second half on the SMU side.
Of course I was wearing a Bulldog shirt and standing up clapping and cheering everything Tech scored, which wad often in the first half. The looks I got. One guy came over and said "you are a long way from home". I said "no I live about four miles from here". He downshifted quickly.
Tech ended up winning 51-10. Irony is that my daughter got her Master's from SMU in May so I have been an SMU Dad for the last couple of years.

What was the point of that guy coming over lmaooo 😭😭😭
•
u/Physical-Draw9788 1d ago
He was trying to intimidate. I was cheering my team, not denigrating SMU but some people didn't see that distinction. I was 6'4" around 280 at the time so intimidation didn't work very well.

Pretty insane how far SMU's come as a program that Tech blowing them out almost feels unbelieveable nowadays.
•
u/Physical-Draw9788 1d ago
Well this was back in 2017 and they had just lost their coach to Arkansas a couple of weeks before the game. Full circle, Sonny Dykes came into SMU right before the game after he had been fired by Cal. He had left LA Tech to go to Cal several years earlier.

NSU might be the worst D1 team in the country. Yikes to that 2nd quarter
•
u/earthling82 South Carolina • New Mexico 2d ago
Is losing to an NAIA team in week 0 and then losing by 74 in week 1 the worst start for a D1 team ever?
•
u/cmanonurshirt Georgia Tech • Arkansas 2d ago
Unless a D1 team lost to the old YMCA clubs back to back…then yes, I believe so
•
u/damnyoutuesday Montana State • Minnesota 2d ago
They're the worst D1 team with scholarships, and it's not close. Their only competition was really Utah Tech, and they only lost 63-7 to BYU
•
u/LankyTexan Louisiana Tech • South Carolina 2d ago
I live for this.
About NSU, that's borderline negligence on how bad they've let their program get since the tragedy of 2023. Ruston high school may not have been beaten that badly.
•
u/Big__If_True ULM Warhawks • Texas Longhorns 2d ago
Ruston High would unironically at least keep it within 20 points against NSU
•
u/Random0925 Mississippi State • Oregon 2d ago
Man, this kind of felt like bullying, lol. Opened up the Sun Belt era with a win. Onto certain death next week, but can you imagine?

Imagine losing by 74 pts and it not being your most embarrassing loss of the season.

I watched this entire train wreck. I’m sick. I need help. Should I self-report?

I WANTED TO SEE HOW MUCH THEY’D SCORE OK

Welcome to the family. Ruston will welcome you with open arms. Tune in weekly for tons of nasty football, mostly bad, but sometimes good.

Did LA Tech’s coach have some vendetta against Northwestern State?
•
•
u/No_Shoe_3889 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
One of the theories is that it's revenge for the 2014 game where we lost to them.

Like the others are saying, NSU is terrible. But, there are still a lot of oooold movers, shakers, and insiders who live for the old days at Tech. Gotta make them happy, so they and Tech want to win as hard as possible against NSU, ULM, and ULL. They're satiated with everything to the detriment of everything else as long as we win against those three. They've been seething for 12 years even though this is the third game since then, and Tech leads the series 56–20–5, now. Last two had scores of 52-25 and 51-21, and it still wasn't enough. I doubt 80-6 will do it, either. No real bottom to it.

Some high schools in Louisiana would put up better effort than Northwestern State did tonight.
Absolutely broken football program Northwestern State has right now.If I was them I would target find hot shot OCs or numerous high school head coaches within Louisiana.

u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 2d ago
Lose to an NAIA school. Follow or up with a 74 point loss. This could be a generationally bad season.
•
u/Based_Grimlock 1d ago
NSU alum here, and my wife is a professor there.
This is embarrassing. This team beat TCU at TCU when I was in the band back in 2001/2002.
I’m glad the university president spent over 5 million on the football program last year and meanwhile my wife and her colleagues can’t get a fucking cost of living allowance pay bump.

42 points… in a quarter? Excuse me?
•
u/No_Shoe_3889 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 1d ago
From what i can tell, we scored within the first 30 seconds of the 2nd quarter bc we were already in the redzone.

Northwestern State led in both games but got humiliated in both games.
•
u/Possible_Emergency_9 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
By halftime I just felt bad for the Northwestern State guys. That used to be a proud program but you have to wonder if they can keep it upright.

We were keeping an eye on this game after seeing the halftime score and were disappointed LT didn’t hang 100 on em
•
u/No_Shoe_3889 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 2d ago
You and me both. But I do understand why because we're pretty thin at offensive line and didn't want to risk getting injuries.

42 points in one quarter is absolutely asinine. I know it was against Northwestern State but to hang that many points on a team is still an accomplishment nonetheless

42 points in a quarter is something you'd struggle to put up in a video game
•
u/TapNumerous4625 West Virginia • West Virginia 1d ago
Dude poor Northwestern was literally running it 3 straight downs and punting for like 22 yards every drive after halftime. The coach didn’t even attempt to make the game last any longer just knew it was time to look forward to next week and get out of there lol
•
u/ColdWillow7319 Nicholls Colonels 1d ago
I almost went to Northwestern, glad I went to Nicholls instead. We might not be good, but at least we aren't anywhere near as bad as Northwestern. Ngl at this point they should just stop playing football.
•
•
u/Loose-Membership2295 2d ago
Look at it this way Northwestern State fans, if you just take it from 15 minutes to 8.49 in the first quarter and include the whole last quarter, you won 6-3 😅🤣😂
