Some thoughts:

Defense: Might be absolutely disgusting, again. Hope we can keep up the minuscule 3rd down conversion rate again.

QB: Marcel seemed to make decisions a bit quicker, but I wish one of the deep balls could’ve landed.

WR: Dudes flying everywhere. If they can get a good ball, there are few, if any, groups more dangerous in CFB.

RB: Owens has a ton more push/strength this year and can finally fill the role Moss had. KJ Edwards… welcome back Devon Achane. Future is extremely bright.

OL: Not stoked about all of the penalties in the first half; that was a major issue from last season. And giving up back-to-back sacks against a junior varsity team is absurd. Glad they cleaned it up in the second half though.

Marcells deep passes:

-Drop by ABR on sideline ,good ball

-Completion called back for OPI great ball

-Great Ball over the shoulder completed to Horton

-Too much weight on ball to Horton, really the only pass the entire game I have an issue with by Marcel

-Good ball to Bussey, could/should have been caught; could have been a little better but I liked the weight on it

The pass to Bussey was on Marcel. He has trouble getting air under long balls across the field.

I don't think he has a big issue with downfield passing but it always feels like he misses an absolute gimme or two a game.

That pass wasn't a driven ball just maybe needed a half yard more of air under it. I agree it could have been better but I also think it should have been caught.

Im familiar with the missed deep shots from last year, but in general I though Marcels accuracy tonight was much improved. Placement in general was just better overall than it has been. Stop routes were on the facemask, balls weren't taking away momentum from receivers by being more off target than they should be, etc...

He had the one Bussey slight miss, the bad one to Horton and then just like a low ball on a comebacker to the sideline that was still caught and a low ball on a opposite hash out that was caught. The level of placement tonight if it continues against real competition is a big improvement.

The ball that led Roman too much and got him in the tent was the worse one.

He missed one deep ball.

Otherwise it’s night and day.

They didn’t throw much. Seems like they were trying to force Owens and he just wasn’t getting big runs.

The drive that stalled at the goal line it was run run throw and kick. And neither run got much.

Where he landed on the ball and it knocked the wind out of him? That really wasn’t that bad, but ya one of his least accurate throws of the game.

A&M definitely seemed to be in the mode of shortening the game as much as possible to just get in and get out and avoid injury which is why we struggled offensively to start. They were bringing pressure like every down which was clogging run lanes but we seemed determined to run the clock as much as possible all game. So they shut us down a bit until we started being a bit more diverse offensively which actually punished them for the constant every down blitzing and then that opened up the run and it was over.

We were in section 130. Looked bad when he played out the came off.

A few plays later when Mario was laying down pointing to his left leg we were yelling to get reed out before he got hurt.

Was happy to see both ok but the game was over. Saw no reason to have them in and risk anything

I played receiver through high school, I landed on the ball like twice in all that time. It just hurts like hell and takes a couple seconds to comfortably get air but really causes no damage what so ever. And Craver was just your standard early season cramping.

OL seemed to gel a bit better as the game went on. Two really bad series and then settled in; I have some degree of confidence in Cushing to get them right.

Whats good about the two sacks was that it was on stunts and blitz not picked up correctly due to lack of communication, they didn't get physically beat. Communication and knowing where the guy next to you will be and what theyll be doing in the passing game comes with time.

Just top of my head one sack was on a guard getting beat fast by like a safety and the other was on either or a center or a guard not helping on a looper on a stunt. I'd actually have to sit and watch the game film to know how the line performed for the half that all was just evident from TV copy.

I love how our offense scored 31 points in the 2nd half after scoring just 17 points in the 1st half. Also, we shutout an FBS opponent for the first time since a 34-0 win over New Mexico on 9/18/2021, and we shutout an FBS opponent in a season opener for the first time since a 24-0 win over LSU on 9/4/1993

Hard to take away too much from games like these, but always good to take care of business. Defense was dominant, offense moved the ball well but shot itself in the foot a couple times early which caused some overreactions, and then cleaned it up. Big questions marks are OL- brand new, so hopefully just growing pains, and penalties- recurring issue with Elko teams.

Their defense game out with some aggressive blitz packages and their dline did a lot of stunts at the LOS. For some reason we weren't prepared for that, and it left a lot of free defenders bearing down on Reed. That hopefully gets drilled this week so we're better prepared for it.

WRs dropped a lot of balls in the first half. Could be that Reed just puts way too much heat on his throws, could be just rust or first game jitters. We'll see.

We didn't see too many rollouts from Reed, but clearly they've been practicing it. There was one play where he rolled left and delivered a dime on the run. There was another where MOState dialed up a corner blitz and the safety couldn't cover his guy quick enough, Reed and the WR adjusted for a quick pass to hit him basically undefended. Beautiful play. Overall Reed looks more composed, though he's still holding the ball a little too long under pressure and drops back way too far out of the pocket, though when he doesn't he seems to know when to bail and when to step up. He also eyeballed an active PI and bulleted the ball there to force the call, which was outstanding awareness and reaction.

We seem to have a four deep running back stable, with good power and speed across all four. I don't think we have any problems there assuming the oline gets it together.

Defense dominated, as expected. Very few huge standout events, but just consistent grinding defensive effort that kept the ball in our offenses hands. Pretty hard to hold an opponent to <75 yards consistently regardless of who you're playing.

Special Teams got a safety. That was pretty neat.

No problem with play calling and game management, but it was a cupcake so that's expected.

I don’t want to overreact but this is not a CFP team. The line was so bad our starting RT who we paid $1 million to transfer got benched.

The receivers are good don’t get me wrong but a lot of those concepts drawn up by Wiggins didn’t do an amazing job at getting them open.

Owen’s looks like he’s still tripping and the offensive line isn’t getting enough push for him to average 5 yards a carry or get to 100 yards against a first-year FBS team.

Defense looked great. Offense was REALLY lackluster which sound insane for a game where we scored 50, but I’m not inspired.

Reminder we were up 21-17 on UTSA last year in the 3rd and we ended up making the playoff

We are going to face a lot of serious contenders maybe we beat some maybe we lose some, but it doesn’t look like this is a championship squad.

Our defense allowed the fewest total yards out of all FBS and FCS teams by a wide margin. We allowed 67. The next lowest was Georgia with 109. So while our offense obviously has some stuff to work out, our defense might actually be insane.
