The best game and best post game interview you could have asked for to start the Klien era

71 is tied for the third-most points scored in a single game in school history
68 is tied for the fourth-largest victory margin in school history
6 different players scored rushing TDs for K-State in this game, a brand new school record
Edit: I almost forgot, Avery Johnson also took sole possession of the record for most career passing TDs in school history tonight

I'll admit that I'm biased toward my first tag. But your edit made me check and break my brain. I know K-State under Snyder was run forward, but the fact that KU has two QBs with far higher passing TDs (Reesing 90, Daniels 67) since the Snyder era began despite the stark contrast in H2H since his first tenure is insane. K-State has (Howard 48, Johnson 48+3 now). Jason Bean had 38 and split time with Daniels ffs.

We almost never start young QBs so we rarely ever have three or four year starters, and we have historically been run heavy (as you mentioned). It’s still shockingly low though. Klein had 30 passing TDs and 56 rushing TDs.
Freeman played three years but was awful his first year. Thompson was around for five years, but split time and also missed most of a year with injury. Howard played early but was also very bad then and had to fight his way back.

I know not to read too deep into this but good god it felt good to see a team wanted to play ball

Agreed. We should have dominated this game, but when you have a new coach and it's the first game, sometimes the machine ain't altogether yet. So we can be happy that we played as we should have played.

Sigh. So you are saying last year's team didn't want to play ball?
Edit: You guys are fucking idiots. Any fan that says "oh our team doesn't try hard" is just incapable of real critique. It's the lazy argument of casuals. Grow up.

Pretty good start to the Collin Klein era. Trying to not overreact at how great this team looked lol. So far they are living up to living in physicality. Execution was at a high level today in all 3 phases. Couple mistakes here and there, but nothing I was concerned about.

Both lines need work but otherwise everything looked pretty good

Picture perfect homecoming for Coach Klein. The return of Willie’s tackle of the opposing team was so fun to!

It was really nice to see them keep the pressure on and not just shut things down after going up 3 scores.

My personal mvp of this game was the cloud that rolled in before kickoff and prevented the sun from broiling us up in the nosebleeds

During Sandstorm, did you hear “the chant”?

u/crabcakes785 Kansas State Wildcats • Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago
Did not hear it during sandstorm (we were sitting pretty far from the student section) but definitely heard it during Wabash Cannonball in Q1 lol

If Klein can make Reed look like a good QB he can do the same for Johnson lol
•
u/Nervous_Medicine224 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
he just broke the school record for passing touchdowns, he is a good qb.
•
u/GhostRideATank Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
The school record for career passing TDs would be tied for 10th on the list of highest SINGLE SEASON passing TDs. We do not have an extensive history of successful passers.
•
•
u/an_actual_lawyer Kansas State Wildcats 1d ago
Just needs to let him run to make him an effective passer. We don't have the OL or WRs to make an average arm a great QB unless defenses are forced to face a true dual threat.

Way better then last years home opener where we almost lost to a D2 team

North Dakota wasn’t D2, they are D1 FCS there is a bit of a difference there
