Personally I’m just happy we took care of business and didn’t look like complete ass with stupid mistakes in this game
The final score to me is irrelevant
•
•
u/ShoeLace1291 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
Does Rocco give anyone else vibes of Otto from Rocket Power?
•
u/digit_zero Penn State Nittany Lions • Miami Hurricanes 2d ago
I've been more impressed with Martin and Wallace than I was with Hansen. Obviously different points in the game, but they just seem to have more jump
•
u/killadelphia4 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
Agree. Hansen and peoples didn't seem to move the sticks as easy
•
•
u/TheOnePSUIsReal Penn State Nittany Lions • Team Chaos 2d ago
Texas final score looks good but they gave up 349 yards to Texas State. I think we should jump them.

I came in with zero expectations. What is this strange feeling I have? Is it hope?
•
u/Many_Pumpkin9337 Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago
Have hope , even some joy but just know there is a Matt Campbell bad game management game coming up in the future .
•
u/yukoncowbear47 Penn State Nittany Lions • Big Ten 2d ago
Nah stay with zero expectations and just enjoy the moments. It's nice.

I lived through the Michigan loss of 2005 and the Iowa loss of 2008 and I’m still here. I’m always ready to get hurt again.
•
u/UndergroundInfo29 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
I will never forget that Michigan loss in 2005. I think it taught me what grief is. I was 12 and it still haunts me from time to time.

Fumble!!!!! That should hopefully preserve the shutout!

Lots to be happy about today, hoping this is a good sign of things to come with Campbell at the helm.

•
u/EvilHarryDread Penn State • Lebanon Valley 2d ago
I'm feeling spoiled right now. I'm going to be so annoyed if Marshall drives down for a FG and breaks a shutout for Campbell's first ever Penn State game.
•
u/ShoeLace1291 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
If this was a Franklin game it would be a final of 28-7.
•
•
u/NorthCoastToast Delaware State Hornets 2d ago
Boise is going toe-to-toe with Oregon, this game is faaaaar from over.
•
u/theblindbandit51 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
They looked cramped in that chicken coup of a press box
•
u/gettinNOIZY 2d ago
Obviously would’ve been a long shot, but if Becht stays in and Penn State kept slinging it he probably could’ve contended for the single game all time passing yardage record (454) in his first start. Crazy.
•
•
u/youheardaboutpluto- Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
Just the energy of the team is different bro. Everyone on defense is flying to the ball. Players running hard on offense, making good catches, making good moves after the catch, all of just FEELS different. Stockholm syndrome is real.

I feel like a lot of these Iowa State transfers have been thinking “can we live up to Penn State expectations”. I hope today gave them confidence
•
u/RoastedDonutz Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
I’m jealous watching Matt Campbell in his first game at PSU and how prepared and disciplined they are. Meanwhile in year 4 Rhule is still sloppy and took until the 4th quarter to finally pull away from Ohio.
•
u/JRockPSU Penn State • Land Grant Trophy 2d ago
Honestly don't mean to pile on you but every time Rhule would come up as a potential candidate for our next HC I'd cringe a little. I know he's super popular with some of our alumni but I never wanted him here.
•
u/RoastedDonutz Nebraska Cornhuskers 2d ago
I was going to say I wished you took Rhule and we got Campbell but I didn’t want to get a million downvotes because I didn’t really see anyone with PSU flairs on Reddit wanting him. Anyway I’m happy to see Campbell doing well so far.

Martin looks like easily the best running back so far today. Only critique I have, otherwise this has gone as well as I could have ever hoped. Crisp, smart, and prepared on both sides of the ball. Yes it's Marshall but I have a good feeling about this season.

So much for all those people putting Penn State on upset alert. Unfortunately now Marshall becomes an unvalued win after being good enough to beat Penn State

look, I dont want to overreact to three quarters of football but watching Taylor Mouser call plays after being waterboarded by Mike Yurcich and Andy Kotelnicki for five years is one of the best things that's ever happened to me

Penn st, does this team give off any different vibes than what you are used to? How are you liking the former ISU players?
•
u/pjs32000 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
We just look comfortable. Execution on point, no scrambling like a headless chicken even once today... a sign of a well coached team. Considering this team is 50% PSU, 25% ISU, 25% other and has some coaches that haven't been with Campbell before that's a testament to Campbell. I am impressed, today couldn't have gone any better. This group was prepared and ready to go from the first snap.
•
u/yukoncowbear47 Penn State Nittany Lions • Big Ten 2d ago
Yeah we're not making dumbass cringe mistakes in an easy game
•
u/LarryGlue Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
Vibe is way different. Players and playcalling seem “normal”
•
u/Ethenolas Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago edited 2d ago
Receivers are instantly better, getting separation and catching confidently. Tackling looks good too. I think they are playing more relaxed. Franklin ran an overly scrutinizing and very tight ship - they played anxious before and that showed in many ways.
We'll see how we do against better team but it's nice to have a decisive win.
•
u/oooKILROYooo Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago
They are confidant, prepared, motivated and look like they are having fun playing football. These ISU guys are great. They fit in perfectly.
•
u/mwm5062 Penn State • San Diego State 2d ago
Becht's leadership is very apparent. Body language on the sideline compared to Allar is night and day.
•
•
u/TheOnePSUIsReal Penn State Nittany Lions • Team Chaos 2d ago
The offense sure does. We've had many lock down defenses but haven't had an offense that felt like this since Trace. Love the ISU guys!
•
•
u/ComradeIroh Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago edited 2d ago
Much more poised and prepared looking. I haven’t seen wide receiver play like this in a long time. The team looks like they actually want to be there.
Love the Iowa State guys. Eskildsen has some juice.
•
u/Cog_HS Iowa State • Burning Couch Cup 2d ago
I haven’t seen wide receiver play like this in a long time.
Funny thing is, Eskildsen and Sowell were our worst starting receivers in several classes, and Brahmer was certainly not our best receiving TE in some time.
... How bad did ya'll have it...?
•
u/TheOnePSUIsReal Penn State Nittany Lions • Team Chaos 2d ago
BAD. But also Koby is showing out by far the best. And we had Warren so I doubt he's including tight ends.

u/GiantWheelInSpace Penn State Nittany Lions • Buffalo Bulls 2d ago
it's so refreshing.... the lack of dumb trick plays and everyone playing hard and smart. It feels like playing time is earned. Really impressed so far

100%. The coach is showing emotion and we have receivers making plays. Loving it so far.

It's amazing how good coaching provides better results than player talent alone. Subbing in a backup QB this early. Man. What a drive.
•
u/Cog_HS Iowa State • Burning Couch Cup 2d ago
It's amazing how good coaching provides better results than player talent alone.
Campbell's whole thing has been getting guys to play way above themselves. If Penn State still holds any kind of name cachet to attract talent, and he continues to coach them up above themselves, you might have something.

u/jmbrand13 Penn State Nittany Lions 2d ago

I promise I won't say "Franklin would've" too much this season, but Franklin would've had him hand off for a run on 1st and 2nd down and given him a 3 yard checkdown resulting in a punt.
