Nah man, always go full Rutgers. It makes everything so much more fun. Well not so much for Rutgers, but listen we need more people in the basement with us.

Credit to Indiana State, Purdue walks away with some things they know they need to work on.

That is a damning sentence after a 25 pt win.
Edit: I just mean I’m surprised this is being said after a huge win on paper, I didn’t watch the game. No offense intended.

Genuinely confused what I said that’s being taken wrong?
I didn’t watch the game so I’m surprised the comment I responded to is disappointed with a 25 point win.

So confused.
Oh well, I’ll lose some internet points I guess.

u/Pinewood74 Air Force Falcons • Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
A 25 point win over a bad FCS team is by no means a "huge win on paper."
2 years ago we beat this team 49-0. We proceeded to win exactly 0 more games the rest of that season.
•
u/BlackGhostPanda Purdue Boilermakers • Old Oaken Bucket 3d ago
Brother purdue football has been for a long time. Its not all that surprising. I won't be surprised if this is purdues only win
•
u/Aragorns-Broken-Toe Indiana Hoosiers 3d ago
With a 25 point win, I thought there’d be more optimism is all. Wasn’t even trying to talk shit.
•
u/A_OBCD8663 Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Purdue beat them 49-0 in 2024. I was optimistic then. Never again.
•
u/BlackGhostPanda Purdue Boilermakers • Old Oaken Bucket 3d ago
I get it. We are a very pessimistic bunch during football season.
1st half was straight ass for purdue so that doesnt help. 2nd half was fun though.
•
u/DarthNobody14 Texas A&M Aggies 3d ago
At least you took care of business, but this win does not give many confidence that anything has changed for Purdue.
At least you’re not the worst BIG 10 team this week.

If we play like we did in the 3rd quarter and start of the 4th, definitely.
•
u/TreeTrillion Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Odom will carry on the Danny Hope legacy of "One brick higher". Who would have thought the Boilers would be undefeated in September!
•
•
u/MIZ_09 Missouri Tigers 3d ago
I still don’t understand why Purdue fired Ryan Walters to hire his mentor. Barry Odom should have bided his time at UNLV and continued to build his stock.
•
u/PLEASE-USE-PFKEYS Purdue • Boston College 3d ago
I still don’t understand why Purdue fired Ryan Walters
Did you watch any of his last season? Purdue was ready to fire Walters even if we would have had to spend the next year without a coach.
•
u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 2d ago
Anyone in the dorms who played NCAA 25 last year could have taken over playcalling from Walters and made a noticable positive impact.
It's hard to overstate how much a wet tortilla could have out coached Walters. He turned a program with hope into a smoking crater (transfer portal did not help).
•
u/No-Cantaloupe-6535 Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
also the whole cheating on his wife with a secretary thing
•
u/PLEASE-USE-PFKEYS Purdue • Boston College 3d ago
Wait I think I missed this. Huh. I didn't know we had two of those in the B1G recently.
•
u/ItemizedDeductions Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Walters was a shitty coach but I thought this was a shitty thing for our fanbase to drum up
•
•
u/etsuandpurdue3 Purdue • ETSU 2d ago
Certain people in Purdue's fanbase will get very angry you bring that up.
•
u/ItemizedDeductions Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago
Cause it was bullshit and has been debunked as such
•
u/etsuandpurdue3 Purdue • ETSU 2d ago
I never saw where it was debunked. Just people accepting PR speech as gospel.
•
u/ItemizedDeductions Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago
….. you’re accepting a message board rumor as gospel
•
•
u/Advanced_Gold1290 Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
The Odom hire ended up just being the best available option, imo. Purdue didn't really want to fire Walters that season, but he was so bad that their hand was pretty much forced.
I agree that it's a bit of an odd pick, though
•
u/TheBigBoner Purdue • Notre Dame 3d ago
Purdue leadership is not willing to spend any money on football and they have incredibly low self worth.
•
u/sam_roop Indiana State • Michigan 3d ago
Let’s go sycamores! Only losing by 25 is nothing to sneeze at, considering how bad we normally are
•
u/AvidToastFan Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
I will be the first one to say that this was an odd blowout game
•
u/Single_Seesaw_9499 Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Vibes were horrendous the first half, but that was a fun second half. Good adjustment for sure.
Forgot how different our game threads are for football than for basketball (more so for games vs lower level opponents). Way more neutral flair clowns unfortunately

At least the Purdue fans aren't turning on each other in the football threads lol

A 25 point win feels like it puts winning 2 more on the table. Schedule's not gonna be kind, but we might get lucky.
That said, all of last years issues (penalties, limp offense/defense) are still around. Any team better than ISU will easily pick that apart, because ISU was picking that apart in the first half.
•
u/Dizzy-Pangolin17 Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago
Brother we beat them 49-0 two years ago and proceeded to lose every single game afterwards
•
u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 2d ago
I'm not saying we go 3 and 9, I'm saying that if we'd done any worse in this, we'd have been all but guaranteed to go 1-11.
•
u/xXCascadeXx Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
Purdue football and penalties. Name a more iconic duo.
That was an issue here even when Brohm was still around.
•
u/Key-Lie-1507 Texas Longhorns • Purdue Boilermakers 3d ago
1-0 as a Purdue freshman, surely this record will hold
•

First and last Purdue win of the season .
Or do they have a new coach? That changes a lot.

I’ll let a boilermaker make the associated graphic.
