Potato is very sophisticated
Potato joined our family just over a year ago and I still can't stop "Aaaw"-ing and taking an absurd number of pictures of of everything she does. I figure you all get it.

Hello! To make things a bit easier, when it comes to proving who's the real owner of a said cat, we're introducing verified flairs.
Simply post a picture of your cat with a small physical note that includes your username (like a post-it note), and you will get assigned your own flair with the name of your cat(s).
(Remember that it has to be a physical note, post it, or similarly).
You can post here or send me a modmail and I'll get you verifying you asap!

This is Theo, just finished looking after him. Shouty, food-obsessed and surprisingly athletic.

My boy last time I weighed him was about 6.6kg heāll be 2 in December, he looks chonky. Itās hard to tell if heās overweight as he looks different at all angles. Weāre going to get his heart checked over as he gets puffed out easily so not really able to exercise him properly without worrying at the moment.

You know how cats can sit their haunches on the sofa but leaning with front paws over the arm of the sofa? Well both of my girls do this while watching TV. One day, Cocoa was doing this, and I was talking about her in the way you would not talk in front of a person who has their cognition about them. I wasnāt saying anything mean but just like the average person might about a āpetā. Lol, well she turned around slowly and looked me dead in my eyes and held my gaze. When I didnāt say anything else, she turned her head and continued watching TV! She legit only turned her head and I affirm among all things holy, this girl understood me like a natural personšÆ. I said something again to the other person and she looked at me again, then turned her head back to watching TV. I sensed resignation. Like she knows I donāt fully know how much she understands. Dude, it freaking creeped me out.
But wait, hereās something crazier. I think cats might learn language a billion times faster than we do. My girls came to us only understanding Ukrainian (we know because we played recordings of a woman speaking common phrases and they were looking all over the place, and responding). They pretty much seem to understand most of what we are saying to them after five months. Maybe they learn faster with lots of baby talk and kisses as positive reenforcement.
I donāt know. Just wanted to share this and hear some of your stories.

Seit Freitag versuche ich es mit All you can Eat Nassfutter.

so I'm new to having a cat, i found an 3 month british boy and i was going to get him but the thing is i promised to my family to take care of him by myself, so i was thinking is there anything to consider? like things i need to ask the breeder before buying, or if is the gender of the cat matters (because one of my friend had troubles with her male cat) and also what things should i buy before buying the cat like food, litter, scratcher and etc.

I donāt want this to get taken down so letās say Brits are getting anything but (T)ender (L)ove and (C)areā¦.
Both of the kittens I brought home became sick. I started to investigate and identified 10+ kittens that died and/or were sick, and went home to their owners sick, in the less than 5 months of our interaction.
FIP central (including 1 of my kittens). 3 kittens, that I know of, died in her care of unknown causes (including my OG kitten). She illegally medicated at least 2 litters without a vet diagnosis of the symptoms (had my boy taking meds for his immune system when it was respiratory). Parasites. Cryptic group messages about how FIP is on the rise in the US, she cares about your kittens, and wants you to stay vigilant for symptoms⦠all made sense after the diagnosis showed up at my front door. (She survived).
Over a year later itās been a nonstop medical nightmare. I care of my cats the way people take care of their human children. There is always something with them - kidney stones, parasites, bloody diarrhea. Only 1.5 years old and the vet trips have not ended. Itās been a tremendous financial burden and plummeted my mental and physical health.
Breeder is TICA. She gets rave reviews. She cultivated an online community of cat parents - cat seemed to be healthy and parents seemed to be happy. We spoke a lot on the phone. She was incredibly sweet, transparent, seemingly empathetic. When things got rocky she was quick with a solution. I trusted her and itās why I continued to work with her ā¦
In retrospect, my excitement overshadowed the red flags. Then when my kitten got FIP at 5 months old, she sent me $300 and immediately blocked me. Thats when I started investigating with other parents. I believe with conviction that she is a liar, manipulator and knowingly selling sick kittens. I hope no one else goes through this and urge you to look elsewhere.

Every day he shows more and more affection towards me. He gets closer to my face and onto my chest and purrs loudly. He nestles into my lap or hand while asleep. My heart melts every time. I have never felt such closeness with a cat before! It has only been 3 weeks since I picked Binx up. But we have bonded so well already. ā¤ļøšāā¬āŗļø He has helped my mental health massively too.

Lately I got this beautiful kitten in Ireland.
Sheās already had her first checkup to be on the safe side.
The vet was happy enough and advised me re the eyes and what to do.
However her eyes are an ongoing issue at this stage.
It looks like hay fever as the discharge is brown and sometimes green.
It has to be wiped away with pre boiled lukewarm water a few times daily.
Sheās also sneezing.
Starting to get nervous regarding former owners and if the kitten has some hidden condition.
Unfortunately the eyes are not clearing up and I will have to bring the kitten back again tomorrow to get an antibiotic.
Has anyone else had these issues?

I have 9 BSH cats (reg. breeder) and i started this whole food fiasco by accident 15 years ago.
Background (TLDR) i was raised with dogs always. My first pair (Dobermans) lived upto be 16. We lived in a smallish city, commercial food wasnāt widely available or was imported and extremely expensive. The Dobermans ate a lot. So my parents would boil whole chickens with dog safe veggies and some broken wheat/ other grains to prepare food for them. Then we got our next puppy who died at the age of 3 from cancer. The only thing we did different- fed him Royal canin/ pedigree brand kibble instead of home cooked. Later, we got a Labrador who underwent long cancer treatments and he too was being fed kibble. By this time Internet was more active and you could find out more information. Since then my family vet and parents (also doctors) decided that itās best to stick to clean ingredients while feeding.
So fast forward to me getting cats. I started them on home cooked early on. Always mixed with commercial kibble and wet food to ensure their diet is nutritionally complete.
Now we have reached a stage where my cats will eat only home cooked and barely touch their canned food. They do eat their kibble and raw meats but they leave so much wet food in their plates every day. I still need to feed kitten wet food because kittens are growing up and need the nutrition.
Example recipe
4 whole raw chicken carcass (XL size)
4 lts of water
Boil until bones are soft and liquid is reduced by more than half. Strain and refrigerate. The broth becomes jelly like and mimics the commercial food texture.
Chicken from the 4 chickens
Mackerel/ Salmon or any white fish 3 kgs
Air Dried mussels
2kg of chicken liver
500gms of offal mix (we use lamb)
Carrots or pumpkin 1kg
Psyllium husk 50gms
Steam the chicken and fish. Remove bones/ skin/ fins etc
Boil the mussels, carrots first until soft and then add the offals in the last 5 mins.
Mix with psyllium husks and cool in the fridge.
Shred in the blender on pulse mode. Freeze in cube moulds. Microwave for 1 min from the freezer and add some warmed up broth.
Now my cats will eat it anyday of the week but they hate their wet food.
Has anyone else experienced this?
