Consistency. A half assed workout on your bad days is better than no workout. Also creatine

Ugh I need to live by this. I keep thinking 2 good workouts is better than 2 good workouts + 1 bad one and I keep missing my 3 days a week routine. It's so stupid

The secret is to stop optimizing when you start.

If you hate leg day, stick some leg workouts in with upper body workouts you like. You won't skip them then. Spread your workouts out so every day you have something you look forward to and something you need to get it.

After a few weeks, you can split them back into standard PPL or whatever.

Pro tip I've learned a while back, I thought I was non responsive to creatine, still not 100% sure if it works for me, but apparently the correct dose is 1g per 10kg bodyweight, which means 9 grams a day for me, instead of five grams. If you take creatine and you don't get any stronger and heavier, maybe up the dose. Drink enough water and you should be fine.

This only works for baby-faced young'uns. Half assed workouts when the body is asking to rest is exactly how you get overuse injuries as you get a few wrinkles

Overuse injuries set people back far more than extra rest days. People seriously exaggerate how much stimulus is necessary to make great progress, and understate the importance of rest

If Eddie Hall could make do with 3 rest days per week you can afford that and a little more on account of not needing to deadlift half a ton

(Unless you're bodybuilding, in which case RIP for a bunch of reasons)

Never said to overdo it or take no rest days. Just said that a slow/bad workout day where you feel lazy is better than no workout

Eddie hall is also like a one in a million genetic superman, I wouldn't really compare to him.

I think he means days where you just warm up or do a light load.

The anecdotal evidence of creatine causing hair thinning has me scared to try it

u/quiteCryptic 3h ago

If it really was the cause it would have been sound knowledge by now, lots of people use it. Lots of guys use it. Lots of guys who would have lost their hair regardless who are looking for something to point to.

what would u choose if u had to choose

protein or creatine and please i cant afford both

u/ASisko 6h ago

Protein. AFAIK creatine just lets you work a little harder, which over time results in more gains. Protein on the other hand is a requirement for recovery and gains.

u/Zealousideal-Lab9843 5h ago

I would solve your food instability first. If you can't get protein you're already done for.

u/randCN 6h ago

Creatine. You can get your protein pretty cheap from beans and tofu. You can't easily get that same volume of creatine from food.

Not from my country man

u/Souk12 5h ago

What country are you in?

u/Souk12 5h ago

Strong vegans, unite!

u/Rockergage 5h ago

Extra protein tofu is like $4 a lb roughly here and taste delicious. I’m trying to move towards full veganism but I break the rules a good bit.

u/randCN 5h ago

I'm not a vegan by a long shot.

I'm just poor.

u/Souk12 4h ago

Damn.

You can get a large container of quality creatine at Costco for $15-20 that will last you months. Creatine is not expensive; protein does add up though.
